www.timothyseam... Timothy Seaman uses a separated-hands technique on the Dusty Strings D600 hammered dulcimer to play a unique arrangement of the great Irish tune about a great Irish hero, Brian Boru. The tune is a march in 6/8 time, so the right hand moves back and forth in mirrorlike patterns, R-L-R, L-R-L, to create a lively swinging effect, and each new pass-through of the melody is in a new key a fourth lower than the one before. In the third verse the dampers are depressed; various departures from the exact tune arrive serendipitously.
A studio recording of a similar performance is on the album Jamestown: On the Edge of a Vast Continent, with several other instruments joining in for a full improvisational flavor, found here: timothyseaman.c.... (The new tune title additionally used on this album is 'Building James Fort.')
