Maybe Sagan did something like that before Cox, but you might as well say Sagan rode the coattails of Faraday, Queen rode on the coattails of Beethoven, Picasso rode on the coattails of Bosch. Just because you've heard of them and they worked in similar fields doesn't make the latter is riding the coattails of the earlier.

…as a Natural born American of English descent, I so very much appreciate Brit humour. Even when I was a younger man I wondered if something was wrong with me because, for example, I found the video Queen did for “I Want To Break Free” just insanely funny yet all my friends were repulsed by it here. Now I’m my advanced years I realize why I found it to be cheeky. Because It was FUNNY! That’s why! I need to visit the Uk one day and visit Kent from where my namesake originated.
@dylanhoss3387
@dylanhoss3387 6 месяцев назад
Dude. It doesn’t work that way and everyone in the uk is going to cringe HARD at you if you try to say that shit to them. You’re American and that’s okay, all British people don’t even have the same sense of humor, same with Americans. The average british person isn’t even fully british anyway, most are up to 40% German according to dna testing. Seriously trying to spare you here, Europeans laugh HARD at americans who try to do the “I’m actually 1/8 french that’s why i like baguettes haha!” shit. You go to the uk they’re going to view you as INCREDIBLY american and I know you’re expecting the opposite. Just to put this into perspective for you, if you’re an american with two parents LITERALLY FROM A EUROPEAN COUNTRY, most people in that country will consider you to ONLY BE AMERICAN. meanwhile your ancestors probably came over on the mayflower. Let all of that sink in.

You can actually touch liquid nitrogen as long as it is only a tiny bit... you can hold a drop in your hand for example, and your skin will be protected because of the Leidenfrost effect, as the drop will be floating on a cushion of nitrogen, and not contact your skin. Much like a drop of water dances around when dropped on a very hot pan.

14:12 you can put a finger in, it will create a layer of nitrogen gas around you finger and protect you. Just don't leave it in or where a glove that will absorb the liquid and remain in contact with your hand. Also, the collider used liquid helium which is much colder than liquid nitrogen
@zhadoomzx
@zhadoomzx Год назад
No i would not put a finger in liquid nitrogen... you can hold a drop of liquid nitrogen and let it evaporate on your hand, as a drop does not have enough heat capacity to cool down your blood circulated skin tissue fast enough, and the Leidenfrost effect will make it float and not make skin contact. But your whole finger also contains tissue that is not well circulated - like your nails - which can cool down fast and allow the nitrogen to make contact. Also skin areas with irregularities like scars or scratches might cool down faster than healthy skin. So yeah - maybe you can put your finger in without lasting damage for 0.1s, or maybe even 0.5 seconds, but i would advise not to try.

As well-natured as this programme is and as honest as Ross is about his scientific curiosity, hearing the audience laugh every time he makes an absurd point for the sake of comedy because all they’re focusing on is the punchline is I think still the real problem with people being anxious about science. Comedy is essential but laughing at science isn’t its best use. I’m waiting for the world where the science amazes people in relative terms, and a talkshow audience can appreciate the facts first and where the comedy compliments them rather than exploits them.
