One of my all time favorite compositions, which in the original recording was just a series of tape loops triggered at different intervals. It was Eno's first real attempt at Generative music. Back in 1998 I got to see Bang on A Can All Stars perform the entire album live acoustically.

Have you done / can you do a cover of Eno's Thursday Afternoon? That's my top favorite, this comes second. We had it on loop for the audience prior to getting married while they all waited, Airports is a bit more optimistic and lifting but Thursday Afternoon just really speaks to being in limbo waiting for something good to come along, slowly but surely.
@stateazure
@stateazure 7 месяцев назад
Thank you! I know Thursday Afternoon well, but that's not very coverable imo since it's even more 'generative' and doesn't have the same, easy to remember, repeating patterns of this one. I've done similar ambient generative tracks though.

Phenominal. Beautiful Rendition. I remember the first time i heard this. Logan Airport, Boston MA. I sat waiting, and realized these huge wood wall panels wth softly colorzed lit edges were matching musical tones i could just barely register. i was at peace and didnt know why. It was incredible and I have been a huge fan of Eno ever since. Thank you for this beautiful reminder.

One of the first Eno albums I found on RU-vid - not sure how the rabbit hole led me there, I think I was listening to the Orb's Adventures in the Ultraworld. Reminds me of Jarre's En Attendent Cousteau (which came later obvs) and what I would call 'Dripping cave music' when i played on our piano - depressing the sustain pedal and pressing the highest keys making echoy drip-sounds.

Full circle, SA. My ambient story starts around the late 80s after I was done pretending to be a rock star, and Ambient 1: Music for Airports was in my tape player on repeat. Loved this music, but never knew what it was called. @@stateazure I have to say, you are amazingly good with your work, and yet also very down to earth with the music theory part. I am exactly the same way, whenever people hear me play my keyboards or piano, I get many compliments, but like you, I did not apply myself in theory, but I do apply my own interpretation of it! Perhaps that is the key, and the fact that you support other artists too, is in my view excellence second to none. I may finally push myself to start posting my musical creations online, which I have avoided to this day, but when I do I will be sure to mention your work as part of what got me started on that path. Eno is a legend for sure, but your approach is just as valid so thank you for doing what you do 👍

@stateazure 6 месяцев назад
I'm primarily a synth player/producer but I do play and practice piano a lot and even have a dedicated channel for that. I love playing piano, so a really nice hammer action and excellent keybed is crucial for me, and Roland do some of the best from my experience, hence why I'm using a Fantom 8 (PHA50 keybed). So yeah, I do prefer it, at least now that I've upgraded from the Native Instruments S88 mk2 (that was a bit of a strange action). I still use the keyboards on my hardware synths sometimes, but I prefer to compose and play on the Fantom.@@2manysynthsstudio336
