I remember Allan Clarke bagging a 1-0 win for us there,also jermaine Beckford. Brian Flynn had a great Midford partnership with Tony Currie. Brian was only 5 foot 3 inches tall but a proper little pocket rocket

i went to OT a few times in the 70s 1975 and 1976 i think and the thing i remember most is there were only around 200 leeds fans spread round the stadium ,it must have been a shock in this game to see that turnout

What about 1977 semi at Hillsboro ? Are you gonna deny we had 3 quarters of ground including half your official end ?
@Buzzard1968
@Buzzard1968 4 года назад
eh? You had half the Hillsborough kop? From footage I've seen no you didn't. I heard there were a few hundred had got tickets for the Leeds end... won't deny you had more fans there though. Scum had the biggest support, and away followings, in the country at the time. I wouldn't dispute that.

Terra Nova we did and I’ve met a fair few Leeds fans who admit it. Most fans wore colours and from the other end of the ground you could see red white and black , a row of coppers down the middle and white and yellow on the other side. I’ll find a photo and link up

@@ThomasToGreenhoff You did not have half kop the Hillsborough kop sloped in them days you can clearly see Leeds fans were massed on the kop, yes you had numbers in there on the left side.

Man Utd went to elland road every year in their thousands from 70s to 90s. Leeds brought 3 good followings to old Trafford only. This one / 95 cup and beckford game. Not to mention crowd humiliation for 1977 f a cup Semi in Sheffield

+pete cantona PMSL. Why is it Leeds are probably the best supported away club in the country - proven fact. We always sell our allocation and more - and that includes no plastics or prawn sandwich eaters!

PMSL again - comedy gold from a fan of a team who has spent millions and still play the same style of football as West Brom. Enjoy your Thursday night euro football on Channel 5......priceless. You will be getting a manager before we will. Absolutely hilarious!!!!

@Lukecombsrandytravis leeds during the 70s didnt take as much to utd as utd did to them nor did they take thousands away during that era. utd had way more in 77 semi an all the battles between utd an leeds were at elland rd. yes leeds had a good firm an yes elland rd was rough just like most big aways then. later on they travelled well to.

@@redflag8970 love it how you reply to his post from two years ago! I wonder if he's still around to read it! I was at this game as a 14 year old Leeds fan. Me and two mates and we were stood on the Stretford End would you believe. What's more we went on the service train from Bradford and got one of your orange buses up to the ground in amongst all the MU fans! I like to think that we were the original Service Crew that day lol!! It wasn't until later that year that we got into all of the casual/dresser scene and this was the first away game we'd ever been to and we didn't have much of a clue. I had a schoolkid parka jacket on and a Leeds scarf stuffed in my pocket! Fcuk knows why I even took the scarf and I was bricking it on that bus and in the ground in case anyone spotted it! We couldn't believe how many Leeds were at the other end of the ground - massive turnout - all the way behind the goal and a bit round the corner too plus lots in the seats who were obvious when Leeds scored! We didn't make a muff stood in your end though but it was funny when Leeds did score as one of us must've said something and this older guy next to us heard it and said "you little Yorkshire bastards!" We fucked off sharpish from him before anyone else cottoned on! Then when we got back to Victoria we were stood outside this café and the Leeds special buses pulled up with lads kicking the windows out and calling us Man U bastards! That was the only time all day that I thought of getting my scarf out! Like I said later that season we got into the casual/hooligan scene and followed Leeds all over the country for the next few years - no scarf in sight and one riot after another :-) !! I went to Maine Road a few times but it never matched the memory of that first away game at your place. Fantastic times back then - more a way of life than just a game on a Saturday - something today's fans will never get to experience unfortunately.

Only time Leeds brought a half decent following in 70s or 80s

Don't think so I was there in 79 when the following was even bigger when Conner scored the terraces were more tightly packed over 57,000 there that day, before that fair enough but our support seem to grow up together young lads brought up during the Revie era.

pete cantona . Your obsession is bordering on worrying -Leeds didn’t travel so good till 78- 79 - we took the piss the next two years at your hole. We went down them till 90 and then it had all changed with regard allocations . I will give you that you had massive followings from 76-82 at ours . But never had it easy . Shame our paths didn’t cross 82 -89 when we were at our peak for aways . Momentum for Leeds when we went down - I would say we peaked 83-87 . No 1 when it mattered

I think everybody exaggerates. I'm a Leeds fan and was at this game in 1981, my first away match. I find the history fascinating and whilst I have the usual anti-Man Utd bias I can see this objectively. From what I've seen in 1976 FACSF Man United outnumbered Leeds but they didn't have half the Leeds end - there were a few hundred Man U in there from reports, this is true. Leeds only sold 20,000 tickets (think they were allocated 21,000), the other 30,000 must have been Man U. Leeds did have low away followings at some games in the 1970's but also large followings, it wasn't consistent. it's true to say that nobody's away following was as big as Man Utd's through the 1970's. They had massive numbers all over the country, simply huge numbers and they regularly had between 5 and 10,000 at every away match, including a few occasions at Leeds in the 70's where they must have also had up to 10,000 there. It is they who set the trend for massive followings at away games. Leeds caught up and started getting huge followings together by the end of the 70's and have since then consistently been in the top 5 of away followings every year for the last 30 years, sometimes top 3. It's nonsense to exaggerate that we have the biggest away following. It is what it is. I was 13 years old at this match in 1981 and I got a massive thrill from seeing so many Leeds fans travel there and I used to think we took 10,000 that day... but we didn't, that terrace probably held around 5,000 when full, and we filled it a few times from 1979 onwards. I went to Old Trafford the following season in 1981-82, it was a night match, We didn't fill the scoreboard end that night - we probably had around 3,500 there. We got relegated and by the time we came back Man Utd only ever gave us 2,000 tickets in a pointless ticket war.
