so moving, he is feeling every emotion in this song and his guitar sings . He wrote it at the break up of his marriage. He is bound to sound a bit like Freddie having worked together for over 20 years. All band members contributed to Queens unique sound. Greatest Rock band of all time. This was proved at Live Aid in 1985. God Bless Freddie, miss you.
Brian May also happens to have a Doctorate in Astrophysics, and consults with NASA. I guess he actually is a rocket scientist. He also was the lead guitar for Queen. The word overachiever comes to mind.
In the case of Brian May, "overachiever" may be an understatement. How about fabulous, genius, brilliant, talented in many fields, and also a really nice guy!
@JaySinger UGH! Freddie was an art school grad and classically trained pianist. Roger's degree was in biology; John's degree was in Electronics, designed an instrument Brian needed for his guitar. Brian got his Doctorate in 2007. All of them were focused, icons for all the young people.
@@marvalstith2749 That is so true! I just wish that their education was talked about more than they did. I think that would've been a good example for the real young fans.
@JaySinger Freddie also had a degree in Art; I think everyone knows that he designed Queen's logo design artwork. If you Google "Freddie Mercury art" your mind will be BLOWN by the man's artistic talent... and in so many different art styles! ("Freddie was a package handler"...?)
This song was beautifully written by Brian May. He still has a great voice. I follow him on IG and here on YT. Queen also performed this song in concert and Freddie also does an amazing job on it. Brian and Roger Taylor also do amazing harmony with Freddie. Any song by these men will always be amazing. Brian actually made his own guitar with his father. Its called the Red Special. He used parts from around the house, in fact there is a knitting needle in it also. How creative is that? Brian May is also an Astrophysicist. He is extremely intelligent.
But it was not The red special in this video - this was much smaller - maybe a ukulele - can anybody tell? This was first heard in public at the Tribute Concert for Freddie in -92 , and released as. a Queen song with Freddie singing it - - there is a Queen video. It was first released on the "Made in Heaven " album - because of copyright problems - . Queen had decided at a point that all their songs should be credited to all members - and this was made with 2 of Brians friends. Brian thought that Freddies voice would match and it was released in the "Made in Heaven" with Queen in 1995 - and all the songs that Freddie had left on tape for the band to finish after his death. Before that Brian had released an album "Back to the Light" with it. Btw. last year he rereleased it in a remastered version - with additional versions - forgotten - but thankfully found.
This is beautiful sad song. Brian wrote it about his fight between love to his wife and love to another woman (Anita - now his second wife). He was so in depression and didn´t know what to do. He sings this song full of his pain. I love this song. Nobody could sing it better than he.
To me, this is a very beautiful but very sad song. Brian is singing about the pain and turmoil he went through between his first and second marriages. He still cared for his wife, the mother of his children, but feel deeply in love with Anita, now his second wife. The song includes words about too much love and how difficult it would be having to choose between the two women. You can hear his pain and see it when he is singing. Also, his voice is part of the harmonies in Queen's live performances. Also, Brian's guitar playing has a very distinctive style. So in a few ways you are hearing part of Queen. So glad you did this song.
The Mercury vibe is because every time you hear the harmonies in Queen songs the voices are this guy, Freddie, and the drummer Roger Taylor. Plus this guy, Brian May, wrote a good chunk of Queen music. He is the songwriter of We Will Rock You, just to point out one you are sure to know.
My favourite Brian May story is when he took his dad on Concorde to see him play at Madison Square Garden, prior to that point his dad believed Brian was wasting his education. After the concert he said "I get it now".
Brian May smashed this song. The lyrics and melody are fantastic, love the guitar riff, Brian is an exceptional guitarist. I have also heard the late Freddie Mercury sing this. What a great pick, this is on my playlist also in my thinking category.💕💕💕
I find that I can forget just how good Brian May is. When we think of Queen and vocals, naturally the focus goes to Freddie Mercury and for good reason. But the thing about the band, everyone was a good singer...just listen to their harmonies. First time I heard this song was in a performance with Luciano Pavarotti, and May did a good job holding his own alongside one of music's legendary tenors.
I LOVE this song! So glad you reacted to it! Thank you! I just love Brian’s voice. He wrote this about the falling apart of his marriage. Freddie sang it too but Brian singing it gives it a different feel-more raw.
Brian did a beautiful job on the song. There is so much feeling in his voice. Brian & Roger have some really good songs in there solo careers. How many guitarist have a PHD in Astrophysics? 🔥
Yes definitely a thinking song i totally agree..written by Brian may..around the time Freddie Mercury told them he had aids..hence the deep heartfelt lyrics..Freddie did perform it for a very short while with Queen before his passing but Brian sure nails it as well, you can really feel the love he and the band had for Freddie..as did the world..Keep Well Keep Strong My Dear Friend
@@keithscott4013 well - too much love - he still loved his wife who was pregnant with their third child - and Anita who was his soulmate - and became his wife.
Aah Ty - beautiful! It has a Freddy Mercury vibe because Brian wrote it for Queen, of which he was a member. And his and Freddy’s voices don’t compare, they compliment along with other band members Roger Taylor and John Deacon. This song had even more resonance by the time Brian briefly went solo. Both Freddy and Brian’s father had recently passed, his marriage had collapsed and he’d met his now wife and his relationship with his children was under strain. So the grief in his voice is very real and comes across powerfully - how could it not? Another great reaction Ty - nice to see the head scratching make an appearance!🥰
I can’t believe I’ve never heard this before. I have always been a huge Queen fan, and have mad respect for Brian May. So glad I saw this! Now I need to go hunt up more of the solo stuff of both Brian and Roger.
Brian May was the guitarist for QUEEN and was backup vocals for Freddie. Brian and Freddie had good harmony. Brian wrote the song which Freddie did sing. He was dedicating this song to Freddie.
Thank you for the reaction - a song about the loss of Freddie Mercury Brian also wrote - No one but you - and made a video with the two remaining members of Queen, Roger Taylor and John Deacon . It also conveys their feelings. I've made a comment just 2 comments below this - it was also meant for you - but didn't get a link to you - and I guess you don't read all the old comments - so now you know. 😏
Damm his voice is amazing. I have all of queens albums and have loved all hid lead vocals. Him and Roger are very talented singers in their own right. Songs like 39 and sail away sweet sister show his talent. Oh and he was not a bad guitar player.lol
Do you know that Brian and Roger both have had their own bands and solo carriers ? Brian rereleased his album Back to the Light last year with additional tracks - and Roger released a new album Outsider earlier this year.
Truthfully MrM. None better than the band QUEEN.This song defines the beautiful writing style of Brian May & QUEEN. Their catalogue is mind blowing if you start from their first album to the last. Oh the playlist I would love to give you. AND compare away with FM & BM. Freddie is looking down, smiling and saying" Darling, I love Bri, compare away"
I saw the incredible Brian May open for Guns N' Roses (Axl Rose loved Queen) circa 1993, and he performed this song. I was absolutely FLOORED (in a good way) to see you reacting to it nearly 30 years later!
I think of Freddie when I hear this song. All his life he just wanted true love. I'm glad he found it well before he passed and was able to enjoy a solid loving relationship. I could sit and listen to and watch Dr. Brian May play guitar for hours. He was the one in Queen who at times sounded the most like Freddie Mercury. There are times I'm listening to a song and if I didn't know, I'd swear it was Freddie singing when it's actually Brian. Roger Taylor also has an awesome voice and although I've never heard John Deacon sing alone and he said he couldn't sing, I've heard people talk about him who said he had a very good voice. LOVE this song!
Brian wrote this song when his first marriage was in trouble and he found himself in love with Anita his now wife of many years. Love him. And I think your right about this music having undertones of Freddie Mercury because than was part of Queen and the four members of Queen worked on music together.
Beautiful! Just beautiful! Never heard this song before. As you know from the other comments, Brian May was in Queen so you were right. Very calming and too much love can kill you if the other person doesn't love you back. At least it feels like it.
Brian wrote this song detailing the breakup of his marriage because he had fallen in love with another woman. My vibe was that he was torn between this woman and his family, because he had always presented himself as a family man.
Hey MRM. Thanks for reacting to my song. I promise to format my message better next time. I'm glad you enjoyed it and look forward to seeing more reactions in the future!
Love your reaction Ty. You should react to the Queen version with Freddie singing so that you can feel the difference in the emotions and feelings in the song. Watching Brian’s version puts you in a completely different place than watching Freddie’s version because the strength and emotion is so intense and powerful and it makes you think of it from Freddie’s perspective, while Brian’s version is also very powerful but from a softer side in my opinion. Freddie never performed this live, but the Official Queen video of it is available with Freddie’s and the rest of the bands vocals, but with video clips meshed from many of their concerts. In Queens version it will make you look at it from a while different perspective. I hope you can watch it even if you don’t react to it, just so you can see and hear for yourself the difference. Enjoy friend♥️
I love Brian May's version of this song at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. Many people would disagree, but I actually prefer Freddie singing this song instead of Brian.
Some of the sounds we heard over so many years were associated to being only Freddie. After all these years, it makes sense for us to learn that some of the sounds were not Freddie.
This is a beautiful song written by Brian May from Queen and Brian does an excellent job singing..BUT Freddie blows it out of the park!! Brian has this warm Coco voice and Freddie Mercury has this vibrato and power that's unmatchable You should listen to Freddie singing it as well!!
I think maybe Brian's voice went a little under appreciated, partly because freddy was such a charismatic showboat that he got most of the attention. I'd never really heard him sing but that was darn good
Charismatic Showboat???? He was the frontman of the band Queen....entertaining with his voice and persona and drawing attention to the exceptional talent of the other musicians.
love the song, but the reason behind it is so sad. He was married, 3 children and while out at a movie premiere he met someone else and it was "love at first sight" with the other woman. Yes he divorced his first wife and married the second lots of angst there.
It would be cool if you did some other Brian songs - like: Someday, One Day -- or Leaving Home Ain't Easy -- so many more, but of course, I think you've done "39"- right? anyway.. thanks very much!
Yeah - well, Brian's song - although Freddie also sang it sometimes live -- no reason Brian wouldn't have caught a little "Freddie virus" - over so many years.. thanks for your reaction!
@MRM Several years ago I had this idea for a meme. I have feared that copyrights would have caused it's removal. However It would make a good parody. Then again I'm not a musician and my voice could be compared to fingernails on a blackboard . You may wish to consider this for yourself. This parody is the most perfect description of the love/hate relationship[ between mainstream media and Donald Trump I can think of. Weather you chose to use it or not I leave to you. here it is the song is by the band Sweet. Its title is "Love is like oxygen" All you need to do throughout this song is change the word love to Trump. Its sooo funny. Use at your own risk lol
@@Modern-Renaissance-Man Looks like things are going from bad to worse. Let me pass on one more bit of info. Quinine used to be a treatment for malaria. It can still be found at local stores in the form of tonic water. not sure where your at but if things do get bad this info may help you and your's google it . it was used by British soldiers in the 1850's just wanted you to know that knowledge is power.
another reaction with zero research done. whats the point? of course the harmonies, voice remind you of Freddie, they are BOTH in Queen. he is the guitarist usually.
@@Modern-Renaissance-Man rude eh. i know the background, the research is for you so you know who or what you are listening to. but yea thats your choice :)
