This version of 100,000 Years from Alive! is a highlight in rock history! It represents so much all at once! The drum solo is a story in itself! The groove (including Peter's unique hi hat pattern..yes, listen closely, it's not 1/4 notes, there's a "trip" on 2 and 4 in there..), the themes, the hills, the valleys, the sheer intensity, the cowbell, the Flanger! haha.. etc... There are countless rock drummers out there that grew up on this and have been influenced by Peter Criss for so many reasons! Then, there is Paul's sermon! It's perfect! It like a well scripted movie! And no one before him did anything like this! The brilliant tribal background while Paul simply, eloquently, and and ever so powerfully effortless, with 100% RNR FRONTMAN conviction, gets about 10-15,000 people on their feet in the name of celebrating rock n roll! I still listen to this version from Alive and get goosebumps! It's untouchable and Paul, Peter and KISS should be damn proud of this recording! They worked their asses off the get where they are and no one, not the Stones, Zeppelin, The Who, Queen or anyone of the other top rock bands of all time ever came close to this creating this unified communal , near religious experience of excitement! IMO, only Freddie Mercury came close... But the spirit behind this RNR sermon coupled with Peter's drumming is just untouchable!
The only drummer I've heard that gets close to the groove and swing Peter Criss brought to the table Eric Singer does faithful rendition but it is sterile, no wonder Gene has Brian in his solo band
