For some strange, uncertain reason, I've become enchanted with Brian Wilson..... I recently watched the beautiful bio-pic LOVE and MERCY, with the fabulous John Cusack, and have since read and watched several pieces about the real Brian... His story is amazingly sorrowful yet so uplifting when one knows his history. He's so gracious and talented and humble and it's wonderful that he is content with his life today. Zooey is absolutely beautiful and gracious...
+Jann Smith me too...just recently... learning more about Brian has been life changing for me...what a delightful exchange this was, too, between him and Zooey (wish I was her...man oh man!)
+whiteshadow59 right? she did great! it helps that she's a cute girl, but she asked and shared intelligent, authentic thoughts about music that tapped into Brian well
Zooey handld the interview like a pro, but you could tell she was completely in awe of Brian. What musician or music fan wouldn't be? That's Brian freaking Wilson!
I've loved BW for 40 years. And I just fell in love with Zooey Deschanel 5 minutes ago. Her respect for Brian and great questions....beauty and grace and intelligence....wow...
2 interesting things about this video. 1. Zooey asks Brian if he loves Gershwin, to which he answers yes. 2 years later Brian would go on to do his stellar Reimagines Gershwin LP. 2. At the end of the interview, Brian says “I hope to talk to you again some time”. Fast forward to 2015 and Zooey appears on Brian’s No Pier Pressure LP. She’s also appeared on stage with him over the years as recently as the hometown show last year. Funny how things work out!
She picks "This Will Be Our Year" as one of her faves. SO MUCH MORE RESPECT GAINED. Odessey and Oracle is a masterpiece, but nothing can beat Pet Sounds and the work of Brian Wilson.
A legend being interviewed by a real fan and the legend honestly saying he likes her stuff. Brian is well known for helping and encouraging those in the early phase of their careers. Brian being interviewed by someone of his caliber wouldn't be as interesting and personal.
Hold on let me pretend that I'm the one interviewing Brian for a little bit Brian: "and you're a very pretty girl" Me: Thanks and you're a very handsome man I love you Brian
I really like her. One of her favourites is "Melt Away" - that's a genuine fan right there! Also, she's literally the best interviewer Brian's ever encountered - and many many professionals have attempted and failed. Professor of Rock's interview here on RU-vid is so old hat with literally no depth. This interview was great!
I know!...Can you imagine?!...I'd be like "Yeah...It's not a big deal or anything...But some dude likes my stuff...He's kind of a genius...Maybe you've heard of him...Does the name BRIAN WILSON RING A BELL?!!!":)
I agree with Brian. When I first heard Zooey singing God Only Knows, I thought I was listening to an angel. When I saw her, I thought I was looking at an angel.
I of course am a big Beach Boys fan and really like Zooey too. (I came to this site o n a search for Zooey.) It is so nice to see Brian so relaxed after so many years of fighting his demons. Thanks for the facilitation Zooey.
You, dear reader, will no doubt be fascinated to learn that she has worked with two of our favourite artists: This chap she's talking with now (no pun intended) on the video-clip and Prince. Also, we have a good friend who, when producing electronic music, names themself after this lady somewhat: Xoë Deathchannel.
Pardon me, i don't mean to be rude or disrespect your idol, but Zooey deschannel is NOT obnixious. She is a delightful, cheery, and most well mannered lady, whose sunshinny dispostion could light up the whole stratosphere. she has been nominated for mutiple golden globes and a grammy. She possess a certain level of inncocence and virtue that is rare for a woman of her standing. If you waould only watch one of her many interviews you would see what I am talking about. She is every inch the lady.
I like how he said ‘I listened to the first 6 cuts off your record. I liked 2 and 4’ hahaha that’s low key savage but Brian Wilson telling me he liked one thing i recorded would make me pass out so I suppose you just take it as a compliment which is how I’m sure he meant it.
brian wilson is by far one of the greatest song writers in the 20th century without "pet sounds" music wouldn't be what it is today, not even sgt. pepper land would have been written, or at least being close to the same
@girlseniorpicture It affects me the same way. It's just a very sweet song, and I was such a huge Beach Boys fan growing up. It was a different age and such an innocent time.
I don't speak Portuguese, so someone please correct me. But the name she speaks at 0:36...was she saying João Gilberto, but mixed up the first and last name?
I saw this back in Myspace's heyday and thought it was silly that she cried during Surfer Girl...then when I saw the Beach Boys @ Bonnaroo I cried when he sang God Only Knows!
