This situation really isn't that complicated and it's crazy that almost nobody in hip-hop media has been able to break things down clearly yet. Here are the facts: Gunna plead out to his own charge (Conspiracy to violate the GA state RICO laws). This decision was probably made after his lawyer determined that, given the evidence, the state could likely prove beyond a reasonable doubt that YSL operated in part as a criminal organization. Other rappers, including some of those criticizing him like Bobby Shmurda, have plead out to similar charges in the past. But he (Gunna) *did not* sign a cooperation agreement - an agreement that commits him to providing specific evidence or testimony against his co-defendants - in exchange for a reduced sentence or immunity. Now, on the one hand, since a guilty plea is not admissible as evidence at the trial of an individual's co-defendants, in theory his actions shouldn't have any effect on Thug's case. On the other hand, since his plea was caught on film, it might prejudice potential jurors against Thug. However, we have to keep in mind that (a) jury selection exists to avoid these issues and (b) it's not really Gunna's fault that some random person whipped out their phone and filmed at his hearing. So, there you have it. Would things have been slightly better for Thug if Gunna had taken it to trial? probably, but I really doubt it will end up making any significant difference. Also worth noting that Gunna did do 7 months in one of the worst jail systems in America for stuff he had very little involvement in. Sure people can question his loyalty, but loyalty is a two-way street. If you were in his position would you think it's fair for Thug to expect you to sit for 1-2 years+ purely because of your association with him?
