Whenever you factor in the weight of the grills, and the fact that the metal will be getting hot. I really don't think those little wall hangs will stand up overtime. Maybe a few cooks, but they're going to get weak fairly quick especially if you're cooking anything heavy or doing high temp grilling.
@GarySmith-ss1ee

You are right I am a brick mason and have built hundreds of these not only will the Heat Ben the small little ties he put in overtime they will Rust Out and also he is using regular brick overtime the heat will deteriorate the brick and mortar
@jamiesmith9719
@jamiesmith9719 3 года назад
@@GarySmith-ss1ee what bricks and mortar are you supposed to use instead? My dad was an incredible bricklayer as I have been told by many people around my town who he worked with and for. The brick bbq he built is now becoming unstable as where the brackets are that hold the bbq, the mortar there has cracked and is coming away
@GarySmith-ss1ee
@GarySmith-ss1ee 3 года назад
@@jamiesmith9719 overtime the heat will deteriorate the brick-and-mortar to build a BBQ Pit you should build the Firebox with firebrick and refractory mortar both were made to withstand the Heat then use regular brick-and-mortar on the outside and also instead of using metal for the rack to sit on you can step the fire brick out around the inside of the firebox so there will be no metal to warp or burn out that's the way I recommend to build it

A question. Pretend that you are learning bricking. You have finished this project, best or worst, and suppose that you don't like how it is and want to repeat. How do you demolish this one? take out brick by brick and clean the cement. ? How do you do?

@Beevreeter
@Beevreeter 3 года назад
We call it a Braai here in SA - Nice brickwork but may I add a couple of thoughts? The brickwork on the top looks unfinished, a nice terracotta tile capping would complete the job. Also why not tidy up the jointing on the inside too - it looks scruffy? Important to have at least two levels of support for the grille, which would allow for more control of the distance of the food from the heat as it varies. Speaking of grille supports, a grille laden with meat can get very heavy, I'm not sure those flimsy ties will provide support for very long, especially considering that they will be exposed to intense heat - And are they stainless, or they will rust to nothing in short order. And lastly, any decent braai needs to have some working surface area on either side for putting things down (like your beer) while working, and taking cooked food off onto. Cheers mate!

EVERYONE had these in the 1980s in Australia. Now they've demolished them all. There not quite as big on brick buildings and doing everything in brick here in Australia. Plenty of country homes are fully wood. Some of the crap ones are wood and cement fibre.

First off, great work. Couple questions, maybe dumb ones: Did you build that to stay there in the shop? Assuming impossible to relocate? Also, can you do this with a propane or maybe propane + charcoal combo grill? Maybe build one in with a small fridge next to it? Again, terrific work.
