Could a red wedding dress be the dramatic statement Alexandra's been looking for for her big day? Catch Say Yes to the Dress on TLC - Sky 133, Virgin 162, BT TV 323
The mom is actually so sweet. At first she didn't want to answer his question and say "no I don't think it's bridal" and then she said "if it's bridal to alexandra, it's bridal." What a great mom 🥺
@@traceyhenderson3719 I was raised catholic not church of england but I can’t see a not white dress being a problem. It was Queen Victoria that popularised a white wedding dress. Even after that it was pretty common to be married in your Sunday best or just a nice a dress not white. Especially during war time when rationing was strict. So honestly white is a pretty new thing and doesn’t really have anything to do with religion.
That red dress is one of the most unique choices I've seen a bride make. And it suits her perfectly. Her mother is everything. "I chose my dress, and she must choose hers". Watching this show, it's rare to find moms who show this level of understanding and maturity.
The mum is an angel, she still stated her opinion but still said "If she wants it to be bridal, it can be bridal" because she remembers at the end of the day it's her daughter's day, not theirs.
Dude, this mom is awesome! She voices her opinion, doesn't tease, but when she said that if her daughter found it bridal, then it is bridal, that shows such support and I love that! Also, that red dress is absolutely stunning. It fits her very well and looks amazing.
Red would definitely be very memorable and dramatic! China also uses red for weddings (although colours do fluctuate depending on the dynasty since it’s quite a long history, but red is a staple). 😄
She looks absolutely stunning in the dress; the color suits her well. My parents were married in 1951, and my mother wore a royal blue satin dress with black lace. She looked wonderful and am proud to say I still have the dress. She wasn't trying to look dramatic; she chose a dress that not only could she afford, but made her feel as beautiful as she looked! I would love to see more wedding dresses in a myriad of colors!!
The tradition of "white wedding dress" is not that old...I think it did come along with some royal wedding less than 100 years ago. Before that people wedded in their "Best dress" that they could get their hands on. Fully agree!!! Lets get some colour back on again!
@@pisces2569even after that it was still common to wear your Sunday best or just a nice dress. Especially during war time rationing when you couldn’t really get new clothes. More likely you would just alter or embellish your best dress with whatever you could get your hands on.
Indian weddings are beautiful. Happy brides, no matter the culture, are beautiful. Parents want to see their bride in something they feel is traditional-marriage being such a traditional which varies from culture to culture. This young lady would be gorgeous in a sari.
I wish we could’ve seen her done up in the red dress for her event, with hair and makeup, and at the venue in Africa. Sounds amazing! For that matter, I wish we could have seen her mother in her aqua blue wedding dress as well!
This crowd cracks me up! "How rude!." "Hmff, it's bridal." "You look like a doily." "Things will be popping out." I'd go shopping w/ this crowd even just to buy a newspaper. I've only watched this like five times in the past 30 minutes!
Such a good mom in this episode, supported her daughter and not controlling at all. "my day has gone, I chose my dress and she must choose her dress". A lot of moms could learn a thing or two from this episode.
Absolutely. Every bride must choose a dress that makes her feel beautiful and not choose a dress based on what the family or friends she has with her love. Its not their day, its the brides wedding she is choosing a dress for. I loved this red dress and I thought Alexandria looked so beautiful. Love her long dark hair to, its gorgeous. I wish her and Andrew all the happiness and love in the world. 💖🙏🏻
this is a consultants dream. unlimited budget, supportive family/friends, small company, dramatic choices, and of course a pleasant, non-bridezilla bride,
@@ang5798 the choice of the color is a matter of giving meaning to it, if the bride wants another color she can say "this color means that to me and those are the value I want to embrace on my wedding day" no matter where they celebrate ☺️
I feel the same way. Also the tradition of a white dress is a fairly new one as far as those go. Strikes me as odd too when folks insist on white but they don't care about the symbolism behind it. When the couple have been living together for years it doesn't matter.
Yes tell an Indian person that they should totally wear white because it's a bridal colour in the West while all they think about is "this is a funeral colour"
@J Fl self indulgent is not what you should be on your wedding, that's Rediculous actually. Sure find a dress that you like and that suits you, but "$10k dress in 80 colours and boobs falling out" cannot be justified by "it's her day :)" because it isn't, it's the celebration of the groom and bride closing their bond and initiating their life together... You don't wanna start your marriage with debt
@@inthiaemu6900 there is one channel showing brides looking for traditional Indian clothes, and they always discourage white women marrying into the culture from wearing white, instead try to push them towards at least beige
@@ang5798 honey in kerala white is a bridal colour. Honestly why do yall think that North india is the only part of India?😅 we don't wear red in south India much.
-“Red isn’t bridal.” -As a Chinese person *laughs* -As an Asian “Asians! Assemble!!!!” Edit: Asians wear a variety of different colours for weddings everyone. Asia is an extremely diverse continent. I can only claim to be really familiar with Chinese culture, but by simply referencing that, I’m going to say that for us, white is actually not bridal. We wear white to funerals LOL. Yet, I would never say that white isn’t bridal, even though it wouldn’t be my personal colour of choice. In China, many colours are bridal. Red, purple, green, blue, etc. Just depends on which part of our history you look into, but there were so many different colours. ;p
@@jaiyashree well they were black for funerals but there are still who wear black for wedding dress so why not red? Btw in Northeast India, specifically Assam we wear yellowish white as our traditional wedding cloth
I’m sorry, but does anyone else think that the ‘royal red’ is super beautiful on her, and isn’t un-bridal at all? Edit- thank you for all the likes! 👍🏻
@KNMS 9C VARSHITHA HARIKRISHNAN that was her mom, and they were just playing. You can see both the bride and the eéntourage laughed about it. The mom is actually super respectful, she stated her honest opinion without being rude and she put the bride’s opinion about the dress first because she recognizes the day is about her daughter, she even said that even though she doesn’t find red bridal what matters is what the bride thinks :)
The dress is simply stunning. I wanted a yellow dress for my upcoming wedding but my fiance said NO 😢Yellow is my favorite color and it's a very happy color. I'm glad this bride stood up for herself
English: *Bust out laughing* bc other cultures don't get it's not THEIR culture the show is about. UK's custom is to wear white. So for the English, white is NOT "Bridal." 😉
@@GameChanger597 yo man chill we didn't say it's some culture weddin. We just saying what we wanna say. Why you so pressed haha. We just tryna talk about OUR culture at weddings. Yk share and spread shit like racial harmony and stuff. I guess.
@@jasjasbinks4900If we're all just sayin what we wanna say why you mad?? Why don't you chill? Lol.. I'm just saying what I wanna say. Right? Is a winky face threatening to you or something? Last time I checked it wasn't. And spreading "racial harmony" isn't being condescending of other cultures for wearing their white. Mom's not talkin about Chinese weddings here. She's talking about a European English wedding so...
@@GameChanger597 yikes since when did I sound mad haha I was just saying that I was saying lol. But wait you added a winky face? Nah idk can’t rmb but last time I checked I’m pretty sure I wasn’t mad, just stating what I stated in a clearer “meaning”. And um since when did I say it’s condescend or wtv. And I get that mind talking abt an European wedding but I’m talking about a Chinese wedding. Me. Not mom. Oh and Chinese weddings do include white dresses too. It’s up to the bride if she wants it traditional or not or both. I’d do both but that’s pretty ex. Anw yea please do read my comment and replies to the replies properly. :)) smiley face, hope the emoticon wasn’t threatening or wtv Edit: my bad I didn’t see that wink wonk face there but even if I did, I’d think it’s sarcastic due to the amt of caps. I mean it’s not a lot. But yaknowww
I must say the red dress looked more like the evening gown you would change into after the wedding. But the unconditional support from her mother was absolutely beautiful to witness 😊 well done
@@veown1887 actually this bride went to this shop in 2017, if u want to see the original vid it’s on the tlc uk channel, and it’s called they’ll pop out or smthing like that. i had to search it up cuz i remembered seeing this dress before and i can’t believe the channel just reuploaded an old vid lol
Its depends on how long the engagement is a year or less, its might be kinda pushing it for a custom dress, plus its easier for most brides to choose from a place than make one wait a moth or two or three for a mockup, decide if they like it, either scrap that dress idea or making changes to the dress, wait a couple months, do the first step again until they like the design or if they made the changes make sure they like those changes, and if they do wait a couple months for the final dress to be made and then try it for a last fitting, then wait a month or so. Its a lot of work on the brides part while they are planning a wedding and living life, and finding a dress is already a long and stress process most of the time, getting custom is fun, yes, but can also be a lot more stress than a bride would want.
Well, every tradition has to start somewhere :) White for a wedding dress is rooted in ppl's minds already. I think it's quite recognizable as I don't think we wore white outside of weddings often. I like when u can recognize the bride right away - She Will be the only one wearing that colour.
@@Anastazka00 Unless you add a dress code to the wedding which most people do. White may be considered traditional now but color shouldn’t be judged since it was common and still is (in other cultures).
@@Rey-cm7mi They ar not in "the other" countries. I am sure both ar aware of the existence of other cultures and different custums their culture had in history. They ar not idiots. But in the context of their culture, in that particular time, the tradition Is white. I dunno if it should or shouldn't be judged, but I am sure it definitelly Is and will be judged. It's up to the bride whater she can deal with it.
I think this is the most beautiful wedding dress I have ever seen on this show. Wish they would have showed some of the wedding footage, I can only imagine how gorgeous it must have been ❤
she's getting married in South Africa, for goodness sake. Last I checked, there was a lot of colour in that country when it comes to fashion and bridal attire.
Who else just randomly found this channel on their recommended and is now obsessed with watching these vids? Just me? Okay? - 😭😂 edit: damnnnnn i can't believe i posted this half a year ago!
I wore a red and gold dress on my wedding. It was a custom made medieval style dress with pockets. I wasn't going to spend that much on a dress and only wear it once. I've worn it to several renaissance fairs and conventions as well as just for the day. I love wearing it because it reminds me of my wedding and I get so happy.
Wow the mother in this episode was great! Actually healthy. The mother didn't necessarily feel the dress was bridal, but never belittled her daughter for her choice or tried to strong arm her into changing her mind and was ultimately happy that her daughter was happy. I had to laugh when we found out her wedding dress was blue though so red for the daughter shouldn't have been such a surprise lol
She looks fabulous in the red one!💥 "Frumpy" came to my mind right away too when she put on the gold one. Glad she got what she wanted...it will not be soon forgotten after the wedding!💕
In western cultures it's not. But it's absolutely beautiful in Asian cultures. Traditionally and in the more modern iterations. But with hard lines of expectations becoming more relaxed it's wonderful to see brides be able to express themselves more authentically in style and color.
In India, Pakistan, and many countries, red is the festive color of weddings. In India, people wear white to funerals to indicate an absence of color, hence emotions.
@@yourblackstar19 not "not allowed", its just cosidered bad luck. Like in west widows used to dressed in black, white is the asian colour for a widow. So a newly married bride to wear white is "considered" by the conventional people as kind of bad luck
in Malaysia, (atleast in the part where I live) it is normal to have a different colour for a wedding dress, my aunt wore a purple dress for her wedding!
The red dress definitely looked the most bridal of the three dresses she tried on. Considering how much material was on the skirt and train, I thought the price was a steal, too. The mom was fun and very tolerant. She didn't agree with everything, but she decided to take a deep breath and Love her daughter. I hope I get to see some wedding footage. I bet that's going to be a unique event. Blessings to the couple and family.
That's the most gorgeous wedding gown I've ever seen hands down. A wedding gown doesn't have to be white. That began with Queen Victoria. Before that white wasn't the norm. Bless her Mom ❤
Really?! She had an unlimited budget and they showed her only unfitting ugly dresses. It's like they where thinking: hey, unlimited budget and drama? Great let's get rid of the red dress and show her only really ugly alternatives so she will definitely choose this one.
Yes, from seeing so many episodes of this show i'm POSITIVE there were so much more beautiful gowns, red or not. They didn't even let her try on other red dresses lmao
The dresses are unfitted becouse they are not her size, just the ones that are there for trying on. If anyone chooses the dress then it's delivered in proper size and altered to fit them ^^ Idk why so many ppl seem not to get that. ^^
That gold dress was so ugly in my eyes......the color looks like it's dirty and old not gold... and the lace work was very outdated... looks like something I could find that at the thrift store for $10, and i would probably only buy it to make something else out of it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@ravenrosa1444 lol right.. It did nothing for the girls and made them look like she has saggy boobs :'( this just goes to show you gotta dress for your body type..
Lord Spencer ( Princess Dianas brother ) first wife , who was a professional model chose a golden wedding dress based on a famous painting . It looked really tatty and kinda washed out .
@@mounag8518 well good for you gurl! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so that's why i said in my eyes.. Lol I can see how it could be nice but i just think for that particular dress you gotta have the right fit and right shade.. Maybe the lighting washed out the golden aspect to it since the stores lighting is meant to compliment mainly white dresses.. But either way hope you have a good wedding!
that red matches her skin tone perfectly though. in most of asian countries red is considered as a very bridal country. also since she's getting married in Africa, that would be perfect !
Most asian countries? Huh? I’m from Asia and I could tell most of Asian countries prefer white. Unless if you’re from India. I bet India is the only asian country that prefers red for bridal
The only cool place I have been to in South Africa is cape town, while being on the dock...... the only time I felt a nice strong cool breeze, that and table mountain.
She didn't actually buy the red dress for this very reason. Said that it's too heavy for SA climate. She ended up wearing a completely different dress that's just as pretty tho
