This way of thinking is close to the Japanese concept of Shikata Ga Nai or Shouganai, absolutely legendary way of thinking, long live Mr. Abel and his philosophy! We've just publish a video on the topic if you would like to learn more.
my friend, i have ocd, autism, intense anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and psychosis and...............yeah worrying doesn't help, but that doesn't stop you from worrying.
Because every simple advice, although already wise, needs elaboration and exemplification to be truly understood. "How to stop worrying and start living" is the instance here. Recommended with kind regards!
bostonianful I certainly am not a physician and I am not recommending any sort of treatment for a diagnosed anxiety disorder. The advice was more for folks who don’t have an anxiety disorder.
@@bostonianful I have only some of those diagnosis and I feel your pain pal. Nevertheless I think his words are still very wise and could be very helpful and could lead a happier and healthier life if one could pull it off. Even if it's only some of the time
@@15Candles *helped him win. There’s a separate category for Directing and Writing. He won for ACTING and jurors know a film needs to have a director and script writer at the least.
@@aristotelpichay well yeah I mean, if he had a bad dialogue to work with great acting from him, he wouldn't have won the Oscar either. And the movie was super well made by Spielberg, everything he does in this movie is from Spielberg's orders. Spielberg direct his performance beautiful and the script he was given to work with was magnificent. Take both out, Rylance would've sucked in this movie
@@15Candles agree on this. That’s why the script and directing just helped him win the oscar but not made him win it for ACTING category. Actors will act anything thrown at them be it from a bad script or not so great direction. The category was for ACTING alone...
One of the best movies lines, and for me, a lesson learned. Rudolf Abel: "Mr. Donovan, you have men like me... doing the same for your country. If they were caught... I'm sure that you would wish them to be treated well."
+Fawzi Habassi If you really like his work have a look at my You Tube Channel. I have made a few videos and uploaded some brilliant theatre, take a look , they are very popular :)
I also have terrible anxiety. I even see stressful dreams and wake up tired and depressed. And imagine in the time of Corona how i feel. I go back to this scene to calm myself down a bit.
I saw this outstanding film upon its original release and admired the performances by the lead actors, but then and even more now, two items from the film stand out: the rule of law and and that principles still have meaning. We as Americans seem to be forgetting these important ideals these days.
I have been repeating this quote for myself for so so long after this movie it's almost part of my personality at this point, incredible how a meaningless line is so impactful
One of the best things about this jewel of a movie is the way in which it presents the personal character of these two men, so different between themselves and yet so unbelievably upstanding and admirable as individuals. Bravo to Spielberg, to the scriptwriters and especially to these two towering actors.
You know, whenever I feel too anxious, concerned, or frustrated about certain issues bothering me, I should keep watching this to remind myself what the simple question is about it... "Would it help?"
There's always a good American willing to do the right thing to uphold our system of democracy, freedom and fairness. Just like John Adams did when he defended the British soldiers of the Boston Massacre. Everyone is entitled to a fair defense, or America does not exist.
I very much like thie quote and use it my self. Sometimes being worried would help keeping you motivated to change things, but l understand that it is very easy to slip into a higher dose of being worried that can have the opposite effect. I guess there should be a better way to deal with difficulties. If anyone have a suggestion l would like to hear it.
Wait... there are two different interpretations of this. "Would it help?" as in Abel asking Donovan; "would it help you for me to be alarmed?" Which is quite humorous. And "would it help?" as in Rudolph asking; "what use is it for me to be alarmed?" Which is more profound. I wonder if that's intentional.
When in few scenes you made quite an impact and out acted but also complimented Tom Hanks in a movie directed by Steven Spielberg, man, you deserve to win it all.
I love in the last scene that his finishing Donovan's sentence shows that he HAS thought about the possibility of it not going well. Perhaps he has even worried about it... ...but his actions show that he has rejected the worry as 'not helpful.'
- Have you ever represented many accused spies? - ) No, I haven't yet... But I really would work with my experience and knowledge very well over some time in the past in liberated Germany, you know... - Are you good in what you do? - Yes, a quite,... hm... they have made a documentary movie with my scenario. A very famous one for the specialists on some specific subjects. That's why I am here. Frankly speaking...Dear colleague.
This was a very under rated movie. *SPOILER At the end it's said that Donovan later went to Cuba to negotiate a prisoner release from the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. I'd love to see that as a sort of sequel.
At first I thought that the script writers and/or Spielberg didn't know a Scottish accent when they heard one. Then I realised that the film writers wanted us (the viewers) to see how ignorant Americans were back then (and now it must be said) with regards to Scotland. Hear how Tom Hanks refers to Scotland as Northern England without even knowing how wrong he was.
As a "what worksist" whenever a government program is proposed, I do not ask if it is socialist or capitalist. Instead I ask if it works (Does it help?)
Mark Rylance is not good looking. He has a perpetually worried expression - I think it's the eyebrows. He never shows much emotion. And yet you find yourself watching his reactions, trying to figure him out. He's an amazing actor.
The master of the small moment played just right. One of my favourites is in Sully, when his co-pilot is going through the QRH for dual engine flameout and he reads, "Optimum relight speed, 230 knots. We don't have that." And Hanks says, "...No, we don't." Just perfectly under-delivered. Lots of other actors would have gripped the bridge of their noses and squinted and chuffed out all the air they had before they did that line. Hanks always knows when the big moments hit even harder if they're allowed to stand out on their own.
Rudolf Abel. (William Fisher), as a communist and a patriot, I salute you. It's not your fault that your motives and actions were shown to be wrong in this Spielberg derma.
Money heist series being filmed in Russian bank. El professor : we have 60 hostages . if you don’t give us food , meds and airplane to escape then we are gonna kill the hostages. Russian police : calls an air strike on the building Press reporters : why didn’t you negotiate with bank robbers??? Russian police : would it help , blyat???
Personally I found it a huge disappointment that Rylance didn’t do the accent. Finally a real character featured in a major film who in real life had a regional accent that has almost never been heard in any UK feature film let alone a US-made one and ge doesn’t do it.
