Just out of curiosity. What's a typical work schedule for someone working the bridge ? Like how long are you at sea for and how many days off do you get ?

Well it depends on the voyage. Sometimes you are at sea for weeks or sometimes for 2-3 days only. Bridge watchkeepers dont have any off days

We use STW always for collision avoidance. But during coasting and berthing we use SOG for anti grouding

When you give 1 hour notice to the Engine Room who do you normally call? Only duty engineer or someone else as well?

@@sailingstories So the duty engineer will inform chief eng. electrician and the rest of the engine crew. What about 1 hour for cargo operations? Do you call captain, chief and 2nd mate and bosun or just chief mate and he informs the rest?

Yes the duty engineer will do the rest for engine crew. As for captain and chief, they will give you specific instructions beforehand when to call them.
