Yeah, I thought this was an awesome movie. The realism was so on point, and that period in history is so little explored. I even thought DiCaprio did a good job transforming himself from a girly Hollywood soy boy to a rugged mountain man, although that could be open to dispute.

I agree.. The Revenant and 'There Will Be Blood' are both Masterpieces! Anthony Hopkins is also on my list. Everyone thinks of Silence Of The Lambs as his best role....but many don't even know of his older film 'Magic'.. I have all three of these dvd.s check out his performance in some scenes from that movie. Amazing! 👍

@@49erDiner idk where the real guy is from, I'm just talking about his accent in the movie. It isn't a Baltimore accent. It's more southern with a wild mix of Pennsylvania but just barely. Honestly, it's unrecognizable because he really isn't trying to do a regional accent.

That there is a deep south dialect. I reckon probably deep Georgia, South Carolina low country dialect. Man, Hardy absolutely NAILED it. The CHARACTER that language gives when done correctly is amazing.

This movie came out about the same time as Red Dead Redemption 2 and my girlfriend (now wife) watched me play countless hours on the TV. When we watched this together, she said “This is like your horse game!” 😂

@@thatherton You make it seem like Tom Hardy was a big actor when this film dropped. It's understandable that people didn't know it was him until rewatching it years later. Most people still don't know he played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. He might be a great actor but he's never been a popular actor.

I’ve heard that Anton Chigurh is considered film’s most clinically accurate psychopath so far. While he’s a spectacular depiction - I’m not sure he holds a candle to Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald wasnt really a psychopath, he was more of an opportunist and the way he valued the lives of others was pretty much on point for that era.

Another great scene in this film is Hardy's character telling his fathers.. ('I found God story'). ...'an.. Its turns out...that God??...he's a squirrel! Yeh... 'A big ole meaty one'! ..'I found God he'd say'. The look on Hardy's face at the end of the line...'I shot and ate that S!B......and the slow wide eyed pause...acknowledging that he is surely his fathers son! 👍

As someone that shoots flintlock rifles, there's absolutely zero chance that if you left a loaded rifle overnight in a snowy environment, that it would still fire in the morning. The main charge in the barrel and the charge in the pan would both be too moist.

It's about revenge. Leo's son was killed by hardy. So it's a movie about survival and how far one will go for revenge

Like the other guy said, revenge and character study. But the setting is during the fur trade boom of North America in the early 1800s. These guys are trappers, hunters, and fur traders. So..this would be a great film to watch around hunting season.
