it's absolutely insane and heartwarming to finally see someone who looks like me on a Vogue beauty secrets video. THIS IS WHY REPRESENTATION MATTERS!!!!!
I love that we're seeing darker skinned south asian representation on such a huge show like Bridgerton. We don't even see darker skin tones in Bollywood so seeing Charithra and Simone as the leads made me really happy. Charithra is stunning! Representation is so important and I'm glad that we're seeing it more even with kids shows nowadays too.
ugh she's literally so gorgeous. she's 100% gonna be a new 'it girl'. it's so refreshing seeing a south asian actress here. charithra was such a good actress in the newest season!! i look foward to seeing more of her
@@starr2870 no theres no problem south asian women are beautiful. I myself am Indian. The person whos comment i replied to was replying to a comment talking baout how it would be nice to have a south asian it girl and they said she was british.
i need to see charithra chandran in everything! her acting in bridgerton was amazing. and her beauty always steals every scene. she gives main character energy
I am into these Eastern skincare recipes too. There's a channel which posts some good skincare recipes based on Indian ingredients. Check out the Licorice Rice Scrub ru-vid.com/show-UC-1CkZ5GAs7_ivykDlBQpbQ
I'm black but it really REALLY makes me extremely happy to see any Indian/South Asian representation on popular mainstream shows and i'm so so happy she's getting the attention she deserves, I even liked the video before i even watched a second of it.
i thought the same thing! it’s just great to see more representation especially of darker skinned women, who we never got to see in mainstream media. also she seems like the kindest person ever.
In this season of Bridgerton, I must say Edwina's character shined through until the end. She's strong, wise, elegant, and more! I couldn't help but love the actress Miss Charithra Chandran's acting skills. And talking about her beauty? She's very GORGEOUS.
a lot of people are trashing the change in edwina vs the show and the book but she's so bland in the book. she at least has an arc and grows her character in the show i absolutely love her
She is beautiful. Absolutely loved her performance in Bridgerton. The scene where she is upset and talking to Kate, dressed in her wedding gown, was an incredible bit of acting. Hope to see her in much more in the future!
I really liked Edwina's character development in Bridgerton and ended up liking the character way more than I thought I would. And now I'm interested in seeing more of Charithra Chandran. Glad to see her in Vogue. It's great to learn how skin care and make up works for different skins and I always enjoy to listen people's personal bonds and stories with their routines.
The way she goes all out on eyeliner, YES 🤣🙌🏽😍. We brown girls can go without everything else but you’d have to pry our eyeliner out of our cold dead hands before we’d give that up
I'm not Indian/desi but I grew up watching Bollywood movies and always noticed the lack of dark skinned people as the main characters. I'm soo happy to see beautiful dark skinned Indian women being represented in such a beautiful set/show as Bridgerton. As a dark-skinned black girl myself, I'm rooting for yall! 🥰🥰🥰
I think you don't see movies most of indian actress are brown skin the make up gives them more light skin tone. All the white skin girls are not even indians they are foreign girls or mixed race that act in Bollywood
@@aiswaryabersan7983 I understand that some of those girls are white skinned bc they're mixed (Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin, etc.) I also know the actors who are fully Indian (Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Parineeti/Priyanka Chopra, etc.) either wear makeup or their skin is brightened post production. But I've never seen a woman who's skin is as deep as Simone Ashely's be represented in Bollywood. I'm not saying it doesn't happen at all, but it doesn't happen often. I'm not Indian so I'm not going to act like I know more than you. But I know for sure that light skin is very glorified (as it is in many countries) and dark skin is seen as lowly and unattractive. 😊
Indie movies & regional movies are different girl. Bollywood is completely different than these. We had Smita Patil with gorgeous brown tone and Radhika Apte now. The 90s messed up many things, bringing punjabi crowd in.
She is just as gorgeous without make-up! !! Loved her feline eyes...The over-all makeup was just so elegant that it enhanced her beautiful features rather than overdoing it with too many things.
I love the fact that despite the Bollywood being so particular on having light skinned actors, people like Charithra are able to connect with a larger diversity of people and shine like they deserve to
This is why POC representation is SO important on film/TV! I’ve watched most of these Vogue makeup/skincare routine but I related the MOST to this one. I love that Chairitha embraces her hyperpigmentation..it’s very common especially for South Asian women. She’s going to be a great role model to young girls . I never had any despite growing up with Bollywood, which hardly ever casts dusky/deep skin women. Vogue should do a similar video with Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, that would be so fun to watch!
Blows my mind how I'm finally seeing someone who looks like me on one of these videos! She's so articulate and stunning, has so many interesting thoughts to share as well. Also love how she went all out with her eye-liner, could relate to that on so many levels!
yes! I know i feel like as an Indian girl, I could really connect and relate with her on so many levels! she brings out the Indian in her and doesn't hide it... its not a thing you see very often!
@@preetverma3657 So true, when I was younger I felt I had to not draw attention to that side of myself and it's something I really focused on growing out of. It's pretty incredible that young Indian girls can see Charithra and feel encouraged to celebrate that side of themselves too!
She is so sweet and beautiful, her makeup enhances her features so nicely. It is so lovely to see Indian women as leads in a major English-language tv show. I’m Arab, not Indian, but I‘ve gotten hurtful comments about my darker skin and under eye circles growing up… seeing someone with similar features starring as the beautiful “diamond” in Bridgerton was empowering. Excited to follow her on what I’m sure will be a flourishing career.
Which Arab are you that's dark? I don't even consider them to be dark. I've been to Saudi Arabia twice for Umrah and the majority of Arabs are fairer in skin tone than I am, who is a Malay.
@@zurzakne-etra7069 oh, not just Arab, Europeans too, I’d say that’s not just Malays but other ethnicities in Malaysia too. Not everyone, but you can see a number.
@@zurzakne-etra7069 Malays don't have a culture of their own, nothing in their culture is truly theirs except the language, which is a cheap language of the slums, compared to majestic Arabic language and its rich history. Even, Indians are so beautiful and full of history, I love their unique culture and scripts, so much of diversity!
I like how she's using one product for many different areas instead of having 10 products for 10 areas, she seems very realistic. Loved this #RepresentationMatters #SheLooksLikeMe 💯💯
Representation matters! I'm a black girl and growing up I wondered, why people with my skin tone were always the bad ones, if they were even in the movie/show. I love watching bridgerton and feeling like part of something. I wished brown people where integrated better in society.
@@reemstyles6536 yes, but not in Europe or Amarica. There was royalty in my ancestors countries too (Nigeria,...), not just powerful men but also women. Then the white men came to Africa and took it all, the natural recources, the fortune and the people.
Charithra is so charismatic in every interview! She has such good answers to questions and you feel her joy of just being there, I’m so blown away by how chill and intelligent she seems to be. I really hope she will be back in future seasons and that many other projects soon follow for her!!!
To the people who are saying Charitha looks lighter here: it is because of lighting and different weather seasons make some brown girls skin colour get more tan. Some ppl get more lighter in winter and tan in summer! she so lovely!! I also do my eyebrows myself but I tweeze b/c I hate threading!! Loved seeing her represent as a fellow Tamil gal 🥰!!!
also most western tv shows' lighting is suited for white people's skin tones. that's why mindy often looked so dark and washed out on the office, that lighting was not flattering for her color AT ALL
Love love love that she talks about accessible therapy as selfcare, taking the stigma of it and talking about it openly as something beneficial healthy and „normal“. Appreciate it a lot!
I honestly love how affordable and attainable her skincare routine is!! Not that it's bad to use more expensive products, but it's just not realistic for a lot of us. Love it!
I am so happy to see that too. I came across this person's channel a few days ago and I am so intrigued by skincare routine of women across the globe, especially South Asia. ru-vid.com/show-UC-1CkZ5GAs7_ivykDlBQpbQ
I love that she mentions she’s lucky to have two influences: Indian and british! Because that’s so true. I just love her vibe and focus on having fun in life.
Aww she's not only such a beauty but really lovely too! And the fact that she talks about therapy as a normal way of selfcaring makes me love her even more.
She’s so pretty and well spoken, I’m so glad Shonda Rhimes casted dark skinned south Asians bc as much as I’m grown and comfortable in my skin tone, it’s still great to see someone that looks like us on tv. It just sucks that our own film industry in India don’t represent what majority of women look like there.
I love how to down to earth she is! Lots of girls including me grow up not knowing what skincare really is and how we take care of our body and skin and as we are full grown
Its interesting to see three Tamil girls in some of the most popular TV shows in the West right now- Charithra (Indian Tamil in Bridgerton), Simone (the Lead in the same show Bridgerton) and Maitreyi (Sri Lankan Tamil in Never Have I ever). It is good to see such representation. It is long overdue.
skin tone and matching foundation and concealer, hyperpigmentation, eyebrow shaping, the thinner ends of the eyebrows, the eyeliner, needing a good skincare base for dry skin, color correcting, dark circles. These are things I have never seen in my years of loving RU-vid makeup tutorials and it makes me so happy to see someone who looks like me being that representation.
FINALLY, someone who doesn't hate their dark circles! lol. My skin is super white and the circles are straight up PURPLE, so one day I just decided I'm gonna rock them and that's that lol
I just found out she's two years older than me. I swear I thought she was 18 while watching Bridgerton. She has such a baby face and she's a natural beauty. Excited to see her in more projects in the future!
i havent watched the new season yet but it makes me soo happy to see south asians, more specifically, tamizh girls play lead roles in western films in which we arent portraited in a typical stereotypical way. also, charithra seems to be a wonderful wholesome person, radiating so much positive energy!! love her and wishing her soo much success for the future, cant wait to see her on bigger screen!!!!!
Too early for a coherent comment but, I love this woman and am so happy to see tamil, indian, darker skinned woman on british big screen especially in a period drama. She's so pretty and her skin is gorgeous.
Charithra! What an amazing chatty tutorial. She is so charming and I hope this visibility in film really gives her a springboard into whatever projects give her the most joy. This was an absolute joy to watch. Love her!
She is beauty, elegance and cuteness in a package with a little bow on top ! Finally, someone who accurately represents what an Indian beauty is . I love that she is also proud of her heritage and background. she literally looks like a princess !
Her routine actually seems so achievable (cerave + youth to the people + Elf) and she's down to earth while explaining it too. She's relatable in the way that she didn't grow up with estheticians either. I remember trying to hide my hyperpigmentation so badly in hs and nvr really found a way except waxing and still it was still there. It feels nice to see someone who has all that and still can do a video for vogue.
She is so different than I expected her to be. I mean she is so smart and so much relatable. She definitely is the type of person it would be a pleasure to meet to
I’m Mexican American but I literally gasped when I saw that the main girls in this season were of my complexion. I love the brown girl representation. 🥰
I loved Simone Ashley's looks during the promotion both in person shoots as well over a video call. Her makeup is always on point. Would love to see her get ready and perhaps get some tips ✨✨
I don’t think people understand how deprived south Asians are of representation. Like as kid I would get so happy even seeing the name of my country in a store or on a product🥺
I have no clue how to do my makeup and i don't think i've even tried to learn, so I generally find these type of videos boring because I don't really understand all that they are doing and talking about, I only clicked on this video because I wanted to get to know her more, but I must say I really enjoyed this, it looks easy and she seems to really know how to create an elegant yet simple look. I think if ever I really want to try doing my own makeup I will come back to this.
