This season felt so rushed I can’t explain it but there was such a different feeling to season 1 vs season 3 it’s obviously expected but I liked how compact and focused season 1 was to Simon and Daphne with sprinkles of sub plots and am I’m crazy for thinking the chemistry between Colin and pen just didn’t feel as good as previous seasons couples? Idk I hate that I didn’t like it and feel like I’m complaining since the friends to lovers story is my favourite but it just feels so different from season 1 and 2 🙃

I loves part 1 and found part 2 boring. 🥱 . I liked how they resolved LW’s “issue” , but the romantic, love scenes between two leads were not enough.i missed also humor which was in part 1. I wanted more relationship between her familly and his family (between husbands of sisters and Colin for exemple, they are so funny). I didn’t need so many scenes with triple love of Ben. One will be enough. But the good thing: now I don’t need any more wait h next ss😂

For somone who loves the books, I found part 2 very disappointing. In the book Colin dosnt leave her alone at night when he finds out that she is lady whistledown. The scene where Penelope announces she is lady whistledown is just trying to appear feminist. At the end Colin says in the TV show that he would be happy if his purpose is just to be her husband. Colin in the book yearns for a purpose of his own. Him saying that in the TV show isnt in line with the character. I actually enjoyed the way Colin announced that Penelope was Lady Whisteldown in the book. My greatest disappointment is Michaela Sterling. I actually really liked Michael Sterling and was excited to see the character.

Something else I was upset about with the Michael sterling character that they didn’t put in the show: it was Michael who fell first right away, not Francesca. Michael secretly pined for her while she was happily married to John. So I didn’t like that they changed that. Just my opinion!

@@retrorach8533 Lady Danbury slept with a a married man - a very sympathetic white lord. Sigh. I still like Lady Danbury -- I just wish she had found happiness in a new marriage instead of "attending her garden with Violet's father." Bridgerton is entertaining but it reenforces stereotypes. Even Rege Jean Page as Simon Hastings is the fetishized Black man who is also a womanizer. Daphne has to SA him to force him to perform his marital duty because she commands it. That's why I like the Mondrich's and Mme Delacroix. They just go about their business and they don't trigger anybody. I know this is fiction and I shouldn't look too deeply. I'm trying really hard not to notice the unconscious bias. Sigh.

I'm so glad to hear someone call out the poor plotline of Whistledown. It's confusing why everyone is blood thirsty for Colin to grovel for his tactless and cold statement at the end of Season 2, but no one seems to care about how manipulative and deceptive Pen is when she doesnt tell Colin about what he is actually getting involved in when she prints about her engagement and has (unprotected) sex with him. She knows he hates Whistledown and chooses herself over her love for him, as she did with Elouise in Season 2. The writers made her character selfish and dishonest to a fault, and hardly anyone seems to notice this or care. If I was Colin, I would feel completely deceived and tricked into marriage, so I'm glad that was addressed, at least. The writers completely undermined Polin's love story by making it barely any better than the situation he was in with Marina. He doesn't know she was in love with him, he just knows she let it escalate between them when she was desperate for a husband, without telling him a secret she knew he would be devastated about and might lead to them breaking up. Pen is better than that and Polin is better than that. Poor writing and plot decisions IMO

Queen Charlotte in the namesake show was depicted as quick, witty and intelligent. I thought it was out of character that the Lady Danbury had to prompt the Queen to understand what she wants to do with LW. Surely after all this time chasing LW, the Queen would some kind of plan after catching LW??! To me, the Mondrichs felt like visual fillers to literally fill the screen whenever Anthony and/or Kate were absent. Like Will when the guys hung out as brothers.

@@anjaliyedavalli8038 I was just describing the parallers with something that was said in the video. I do hope that most of the disappointment among the fans has nothing do with the queer aspect but rather with the fact of changing the books so much that people who love the story do not recognize it anymore. Luckily, I myself am not invested enough in the Bridgerton world (although I read all the novels) to be ”sad” about the changes but I do remember my frustration with the Witcher series or that horrendous Netflix adaptation of Jane Austens ”Persuasion”

Pen's excuses for writing about Colin were a bit gross. She was lashing out at him because she was angry, hurt and jealous, but as you said, that is the sort of conversation that should be kept between the two of them. The conversation they did have about it was great, but also soured by her initial response. She wants him the way she wants him, and didn't like that he changed, yet she's never once bothered to ask him why. Him believing that she lacks respect for him is completely understandable. I know she's a gossip, and a fundamental lack of consideration for other people's feelings and privacy is a given, but he was her friend for a long time. He always protected her, and saw her when nobody else did. What happened in 2x08 sucks, but one incident shouldn't negate all those years. Besides, Pen's intentional, pre-meditated, public attack on him was much worse than Colin's one-off, spur-of-the-moment comment to a limited number of people. All their conversations in S3 have been primarily focussed on her, largely because she let him believe he needed to earn back her friendship, when she'd already gotten her petty revenge. Her crush on him may have been one-sided in the first two seasons, but their friendship never was, until this season. Whether it's because the writers listened to all that toxic, entitled nonsense people kept saying about wanting to see Colin grovel, which is really gross, or for some other reason, that does not make for a healthy dynamic. I mean, she wanted him so badly for so long, but now that she has his love, she cares more about her ego? She'd really choose trashy gossip over the life she could have with him? Really?! Also, you were spot on about Eloise and Colin loyally keeping Pen's secrets, no matter how hurt and angry they were about them. Which is kind of ironic, since Penelope herself has little respect for anyone else's secrets.

@@cameronsilas I definitely wouldn't say it was a happy wedding. It was a forced happy wedding for the benefit of the families. Because Colin was still going to marry Pen, he was going to have to at least pretend to be happier than he was. She was in total panic mode, and I thought she was going to run at one point. I had slight, very slight hope when he gave her the nod, and they said their vows clearly and calmly, a neutral kiss afterwards, but then no happy smiles after, nothing like the afternoon dance in the church. Pen having to beg Colin to dance with her at their wedding breakfast...OK a moment there, again small hope was presented, that beautiful brush of her cheek, and then bamn, back to cold shoulder Colin & Pen begging him to talk, and him not wanting to. It was a mess. The only love I felt in that room was the moment Eloise hugs Pen as she sobs after Colin goes to get their carriage. Like I definitely don't define that as a happy wedding just because we saw them marry. In fact I was so disappointed they chose to have them marry before they resolved the LW stuff. Of all the couples, I was praying for a super romantic wedding for Polin. But the writers just didn't feel like doing that. And seeing their baby in the end was sweet, but nothing by that point felt earned. It was a fast track hot mess without any real development for Pen & Colin, especially as a couple. As an individual isolated scene, the baby scene and narration was beautiful, but as a whole I felt Part 2 really messed up Colin and Penelope's story. But if you're happy with it, that's good...I'm envious of those who are content with Part 2.

I always say that book to film adaptations should stay at close to the books as possible (EXCEPT when the books contain sth problematic or sth that´s just so illogical) BUT I don´t get the WHistledown reveal. Neither in the books nor in the show. In the books Pens identity gets revealed but there are no confrontations or consequences and she stops writting completely. In the show she still continues to write but again, no confrontations or consequences and there for sure won´t be any in future seasons. Which makes no sense because in the show Whistledown was much harsher and meaner than in the books. And her continuing writing despite this AND her writing and publishing openly now? WHAT!? ike I would´ve changed it for her too keep her identity but forming some sort of alliance with the Queen in the sense of promising her to never write anything nasty about the Queen or King again and in turn her keeping her idenitity a secret and leaving Pen and the Bridgertons alone. Also would´ve loved if Colin would´ve became "Lord Whistledown" in the sense of becoming Pens partner in crime and helping her not with writting but maybe with publishing and getting gossip.

I think is fine to be upset of not having Michael in the show but I think people should be more open to the posibilities of the changes and the book is always going to be there If you think about it Francesca story is the most easy to change to a queer romantic story they just have to two seasons to explore some of the themes of her story before John dies (infertility ending on her having a baby when he dies) and then her season be the lasbian romance.
@RLjuicygucci1
@RLjuicygucci1 3 месяца назад
What I’m most upset about with this though is that Book Michael falls for Francesca at first sight, and she’s so in love with John she doesn’t even consider Michael for years. Loving someone other than John, especially a close relative and friend of his, is incredibly hard for her. She only wants to remarry because she wants a baby so badly. They also could’ve made Francesca still eventually realize she’s queer but still not have eyes for anyone but John at the time. I hate that their adorable romance is tainted by her being attracted to Michaela at the outset. IMO it’s much harder to do her story about fertility than it would be to do Eloise and Phillip. 🤷‍♀️ I would’ve been totally fine with Philippa and actually creating a good onscreen story for Eloise since the book lacked, but Francesca already had such a beautiful journey with John/Michael. Make Philippa a single mom and Eloise falls in love with her and her family. Much better than incommunicative Phillip. I know they already introduced Phillip but give him a sister. Much less plot changing.

@@RLjuicygucci1 I totally agree. It changes all the dynamics between the protagonists of Francesca's story. Beside that, in their story Michael also struggles with grief and with guilt, when he inherits the estate, he feels that he doesn't deserve it and he's stealing John's title, social position and wife. It complicates their feelings for each other. How the show will include this side of the story as Michaela being a woman can't inherit the title and estate (the whole Featherington plotline revolves around this)? I don't know where the show wants to go with this gender change, but not towards the original story for sure. I don't care about the gender of Francesca's love interest, I care about the dynamics between the characters and the issues they struggle with. Francesca's book is a favorite to many women who struggle with infertility and grief. They can relate to it that after all the loss it is possible to have a family with someone else. And seeing this mess of a third season, I don't have any hope that the show will handle Francesca's season very well. At least with this showrunner. They should bring back Chris Van Dusen, the first and second season was far better than the third.

I think they gave Francesca the queer love story because it's most convenient for them to do: that way they won't have to have a full queer story, just the second half. Which is queerbaiting and kind of infuriating, it's like "yeah we'll give you a queer love story, but only after a straight love story". I also hate that this probably means that Eloise won't get a queer story (because God forbid more than 1 or 2 people are queer). And I just can't see her with a man: she has never been interested in men, hates the marriage mart and wants something different. She needs to be with madame Delacroix: they have a mutual friend in Penelope, and Eloise needs to stop being so elitist and understand the struggles of a working girl.

The monarch also had limited powers, and having gossip columnists beheaded (or having anyone beheaded) is not among those. But Charlotte was never the monarch anyway. During the Regency, her son is ruling in George's stead as prince-regent. Yes, Charlotte could probably find someone to kill for money, but I don't think that's the character we've been given.

S3 was my least favorite season. The love story was not ringing true for me. I don’t see why they got married. Colin was more passionate about M in S1 than P. Francesca had a more authentic love story that showed real connection as a secondary story. Polin felt hollow.

I thought it was a great idea for her just not to marry at all and go live in Vienna or something. I’d love for her to be able to do that… just not by scamming the main characters for the funds. 😁

I absolutely loved Eloise in the first 2 seasons, especially with all her hyper energy. However, I was really frustrated with her character this season. She took way too long to mend things with Pen. Also, I felt really bad when Pen begged for her help with Colin since she wrote that issue to save the Bridgertons but Eloise just raises her hands, like, I don't wanna help you with this. Also, she was not a good friend to Cressida. If she had helped Cressida when she really needed it, Cressida might even have had a redeemable ending.

Okay but hear me out… there was a lot more going on here because the entire LWD plot point centers around Pen. A lot of the screen time devoted to Pen and Colin this season, primarily in p2, was more focused on this than their love story. I know it plays an important role in it, but even when there was perfect opportunity to use the angst and tension between them after her secret is revealed to further develop them as a couple, the show runners failed to do so convincingly. Thinking of S1 and how Daphne/Simon would fight and then their passion would overwhelm their anger, but here we’re given mostly awkwardness and hesitation, and even outright cruelty on Colin’s part, ultimately leading to much of their shared screen time in p2 being scenes where they’re barely even on speaking terms. There was so little real raw expressions of emotion or really any passion given to Polin’s screen time together, and with the slow buildup in p1 I think this was one of the biggest expectations Polin fans had for p2. Even if the screen time comparisons between each season’s couples are accurate, I really don’t think we can fairly compare them beyond that. The substance of their interactions holds a lot more weight than simply occupying space together on-screen. People who feel this season did not do Polin’s love story justice are not being unreasonable. The show simply tried to cover too much ground and introduced too many new subplots this season. Plus, the poor editing/writing did no favors, either. I think many would agree that when there is already a well-executed storyline right there in the books, it really shouldn’t be that hard to bring it to life on-screen. **Editing to add that the carriage scene was the one really great passionate moment they shared, and their first kiss was a promising start, as well. A lot of people were still left feeling like something was missing after p1, but the carriage scene is what gave us all hope that better things were to come in p2. But I personally do not feel p2 delivered on this. I watched p1 four times and I don’t think I could bring myself to give p2 even a 2nd watch…

@@TisPeakMyLordYES!! THANK YOU!! I was & still am beyond disappointed in Part 2. They absolutely destroyed not just the romantic relationship aspect of Colin & Penelope, but the writers sort of forgot they are also friends. A lot of S3 lovers keep saying, yeah but Colin was mad & hurt, he had every right to be, cut him a break, etc. Yes, I agree! That's not why those of us completely disappointed with S3 are upset. Were upset because nothing seemed to flow past Part 1 & E5 of Part 2. The writing & editing were choppy, and they attempted to sell us on the angst without building a proper foundation for it & I also felt they needed a 10 episode season. Let me explain: To pull off what they tried to do, S3 needed 10 episodes, way too much was happeningto allow Colin and Penelope a beginning, middle, & end. So my issues with 99.9% of Part 2: Colin's pain is very relevant, yet we never SEE anything but his coldness. Not a single conversation happens between him & Penelope regarding her being LW except the night he discovers her secret, which doesn't count because that moment was too raw for them to engage in a conversation. This was obviously a creative choice, but Colin IMO was written very poorly in Part 2. TBH, once he knew her secret, I never saw him love her in the same way - even when he gives that love speech at the bug ball, he seems off. Colin never looked at Pen again the way he did pre-LW discovery, and I HATED the writers for this as they fundamentally changed him as a character from Part 1. I know not everything has to be exact as in the book, but Colin's unconditional love for Penelope is evident in every page, and he is the Colin I wanted to see in Part 2. Angry, upset, mad, heartbroken Colin who is still so in love with Pen that he can't withold affection or cast her aside as he dies on the show. Luke is an amazing actor, but everything he did in his scens with Nicola felt so off after the LW reveal. I did not feel their love as I wanted to in the end, especially because we never actually saw them talk about anything, ever. But then suddenly the Queen decided she was good with Penelope, so he is too? Seriously? His speech, while a sweet speech in general, should have also included the real love confession from the book to make it feel less "boss babe, you're so amazing," to also feeling like there was just pure romantic love there too. And TBH, in my opinion, his speech wasn't earned because the writers made him a side character in his own story. The Brigerton books are regency era ROMANCE novels, not modern day girl boss power books. I dont dislike changing things up a little...I love that they gave Penelope more power in her owning her mistakes & not willing to give up her writing. BUT, one huge part of Penelope's as a character was always the fact that she desperately wanted love, especially if that love could be with Colin. Yet they didn't really show that part of her in Part 2 - they focused a little too much on LW & her being so independent that she doesn't speak up and really fight for her & Colin to talk, so he just chills off to the side until she eventually handles everything. What's even more frustrating is that she's trying to communicate & she tells him he doesn't need to save her, just to love her, hold her, kiss her, stand by her side, yet he can't because she wont stop writing & her secret is always going to come between them. So she does something about it all while he continues to literally do nothing shes asked for. Part 2 Colin had a lot to deal with, absolutely. It just felt as though they put conditons on his love and ability to be a full friend and husband to her without understanding why since the writers didn't think them as the lead couple were capable of having a conversation all throughout the LW stuff. Romancing Mr. Brigerton was supposed to be, at least a little, Pen & Colin against the world. They showed us none of that. Where was the friendship? The "I am hurt, betrayed, scared, and feeling alone, but I love you & I want to talk this out because I need to understand and be heard and have you hear me, etc.?" And to further destroy Colin's character, they gave him the jealousy trope, yet forgot to lay the foundation for that too. In the book, we know he wants to be a travel writer, in fact, it's a huge part of his characterization. He's not as confident as he'd like to be, but Pen inspires him to write, so he does, and despite his jealousy in the book as well, he still loves her & doesn't withold affection because of that either as he does on the show. On the show, we see basically zero evidence that Colin has this passionate dream to be a published writer. All we know of his writing on the show is that he & Pen exchange letters during his travels those last couple of years, and then when Pen reads his journal with his more sensual excerpts, and then one 10 second moment while they are dancing when he talks about working on his manuscript - she says the sexy parts are her favorite, he laughs & says those will just be for her, then she offers to edit his writing because she love doings that stuff, & he says that he'd like to do it on his own. End of discussion! So, we're supposed to just be OK that all of his characterization happened off screen & that all his jealousy makes sense? If you read the book, it absolutely does, but on the show it only furthered the coldness Colin showed Penelope, and left absolutely no room for there to be a scene where they properly make-up & finally unite as a couple together. I didn't mind that they let her reveal her secret to the Ton herself. I wasn't crazy about her speech, it definitely could have been better, but they should have had Colin & Pen a united front by this point in the episode. I'd have preferred for Colin to have done his love speech before her big speech to the Ton. Maybe had her offer the annulment & then he looks shocked & immediately does his speech. It would have made it feel more pure & honest than him doing it after the Queens favor for her was evident. I definitely think Colin should have also gone up to her as soon as she finished her speech, held her hands in his and smiled at her & said "that was bloody brilliant". Then her sister could have released the bugs, lol. It's just those little details. With all the lack of verbal communication between Colin and Penelope in Part 2, it was absolutely necessary to physically show more than they did. If you arent going to say it, you need to show it. And of course, in addition to all the above, we come to discover that Netflix cut I think 4/5 Colin & Penelope scenes that were desperately needed to show them actually properly in love & happy. I didn't need a bunch of raunchy sex scenes, but actual pure intimacy. There was none of that in Part 2. And thats why it felt like the love was lacking, why the looks Colin gave to Pen seemed flatter even after they make-up at the bug ball. Even the wedding scenes felt chopoed up after the Queen leaves. It was very obvious something got changed, as I know that the scene where he says he'll sleep on the couch was a reshoot scene. When you have such a beautiful story like Colin and Penelope's, the writers should have put everything into telling it without thousands of fans feeling empty at the end. Anyway, I'm sorry for the rant. I just needed to get my thoughts out. I'm not sure if I even have hope they'll make it up to us in S4 by giving Polin extra attention, since they did give away a lot of Polin time in S3 to side stories. I might wait & just find out what happens in S4, watch it if there's good Polin content. Until then, I won't be reliving S3 anytime soon ☹️.

I have to say, I do believe we needed more Polin on screen time. I think too many plots going on, and just like you said in one of your reels, the show needs to understand that all these plots and characters don't fit in an 8 episode season. If we would've had more episodes, I think we would've been able to see more time between Colin and Penelope, and many more things that are developed in the book. I have to say many of the other storylines I loved, even though you don't like the Featheringtons, I believe that story is SO POWERFUL about them as a family and overcoming situations as group of women, also Penelope and her mom, and so on. I think people have right to be mad about Michaela, makes sense, but I think the main thing is, we wanted more of Polin, and we missed it.

I took it as them knowing a lot of people want LGBT representation, but the show makers wanting to keep Benedict with Sophie and play out that Cinderella story. Sophie’s character is very dependent upon her being a woman, her story talks about how working class women are twice as vulnerable and suffer from violence and assault. From a writing standpoint, Sophie’s character doesn’t make sense to be a man. If they do give Benedict a male love interest, it will probably be a completely different story entirely, not just a male version of sophie. And the “point of adding” Benedict’s bisexuality is to show that side of a queer story, but a bisexual man can still end up with a woman.

Love that you're one of the only people not being angry about Benedict and his bisexuality. I'm very excited about Sophie. Season 4 is 100% their season. HOWEVER, I do feel like he should've had this realization in Season 2 because I feel like with season 4 and Sophie coming I don't think it will get explored again outside of maybe a random comment in passing. So LGBTQ+ who were looking forward to Bi-Benedict are going to be short changed when they could've had more time for a meaningful exploration in S2 of him figuring out his identity followed by S3 focusing on his realization that he may want more than to just be a man-slut. So it feels like it was set up just for it to be dropped with S4 and Sophie. On the other hand if its not dropped and becomes a part of his storyline with Sophie, I feel like Benophie fans are going to be short changed because it will divert so much from how it is in the books when it didn't need to if they had made it a S2 exploration. I'm happy overall with the season but with how much homophobia and racism (Michaela's actress is already getting so much hate) are in the community already now I just wish they had planned it out better time wise.
@cameronsilas
@cameronsilas 3 месяца назад
I definitely think it feels weird they didn’t explore his sexuality in s2, and a big part of that is because of the showrunners! Chris Van Dusen, showrunner of s2, was setting Benedict up to be the lead of season 3 and he had no intentions of making Benedict bisexual! Halfway through season 2, CVD and Jess Brownell (s3 showrunner) starting having extreme creative differences, causing CVD to leave the show. So Jess took Benedict’s character in the direction she wanted him in s3, which would be him being bisexual. But it feels a little out of place because in seasons 1 and 2 his character wasn’t written with that intention! That’s why I’m not a big fan of Jess as a showrunner. Not because she’s adding queer stories, I don’t mind that! But it’s because she doesn’t really think about the initial intent of how these characters were written and she thinks she can just bend them to her will in one season.

I am one of those people sad and disappointed they changed Michael to Michaela. Francesca's book is my favorite, and even though some say it will be the same story with only a few changes, I really don't think so. It will not be the same, the main reason simply being, Michaela is not Michael. I understand being mad at Netflix or the showrunners, but hating on the actress? What has she to do with this decision? Complaining or critic is absolutely OK, but hate, homophobic or racial slurs are absolutely unacceptable and shameful. P.S. They let Benedict's character go to waste. Just jumping from bed to bed, going to the club, drinking, etc. They could at least left him his art. Was hoping we would have a short glimpse of Sophie at the end of the season, but no, we got minutes of uninteresting bed scenes. I have mixed feelings about all seasons so far. At the end of season 2 I couldn't be as happy as I wanted with Kanthony, because of the whole unnecessary drama with Edwina, and the falling out of Pen and Eloise. This time I couldn't feel so happy because of the DRAMA everywhere, and Polin being either sad or angry most of the second part. As in season 2, too many side characters/stories, etc. The show is OK, but I like the books better. 📚💗

Then Eloise tells her that Colin has “convinced himself” that he loves Penelope when she tells her to let go of Whistledown and give it to Cressida, which can’t feel good. I actually felt really badly for Penelope in the books, sometimes Colin is a bully. Also, Eloise didn’t care that she was Whistledown because Penelope hadn’t written about her the way she did in the show. She not only almost ruined Eloise, she also prevented her from continuing her friendship, maybe something more, with Theo. How Eloise has her own secrets and was hiding something from Pen but Pen didn't push her to find out what was happening... she was dealing with Cressida trying to take credit. Colin was jealous at first but when he admitted it and he realized how much she admired his writing, he did the grand gesture and declared his pride and love for her before everyone. Theo is a nothingburger to me. His purpose didn't make sense and just served as a distraction in previous seasons. Like I said, they handled the relationship much better in the book. @@DianaMayeDesigns I actually love that the show had Penelope announce that she’s Whistledown on her own. I agree it’s adorable that Colin loudly tells everyone how proud he is of his wife, but he never asked her permission or asked whether she wanted a grand gesture, so he took away her autonomy over this business that she’d created. In the show, she’s got all the power. And to me it doesn’t matter if the whole ton knows how proud Colin is of her or how much he admires her writing, it matters that she knows, and he tells her in what is my favourite love declaration of the show. I wasn’t bothered that Eloise figured it out first, but I do wish they’d just had Penelope tell Eloise that she’s Whistledown in season 2 before she wrote about her and the political radicals. They could’ve brainstormed together what to do about the Queen. And then they’d still have been friends this year, which I’d have loved. But maybe that takes away some of the drama this season, I don’t know. See I loved Theo. I hope they bring him back. Or if they go the Philip route, I hope Marina is different because I worry about whether Colin will blame Penelope if they do with Marina what they did in the books and I don’t want anymore tension between Polin.
