As a brown girl, I just couldn’t stop myself from sobbing multiple times throughout season 2. I’m such a hopeless romantic, and love a romcom, but it had never truly occurred to me that I’d never seen a woman who looked like me being the main protagonist. Skin as dark as mine too. God, representation is so important. I’m so thankful for this storyline, Simone and Shonda for allowing this beautiful story to be told and for making us all feel worthy of being a viscountess ❤️

The same goes for sexual orientation here, it's obviously easier to portray attraction to the gender you're drawn to than the one you're not. So she's giving credit where credit is due.

Oh my god even in this interview I can see Edwina and Kate in these actresses. So well cast. The actress playing Edwina is actually so sweet, talkative, charming and adorable and looks so much younger just the way she is described in the books, and Simone who plays Kate is naturally fiery, strong headed but mature and has this gravity about her just like Kate. Can't wait for season 2.

It was so refreshing as a brown girl to see someone like me in a lead role AND nudity. I grew up thinking my body was gross because never saw in films or even mainstream adult entertainment.
