More keen to see a review of what's in the CD rack tbh 😆 How did you compare the A7s vs A050s in similar widths? I ran a much wider A7 than A050 on my old EG so I don't have good data, but a few mates are considering dropping from 17" 255/235 A050s to 15" 245/225 A7s and I'm thinking they'll gain a lot of speed from the lower weight per corner, but be similar in apex speeds Paul McKinnon is the guy with the K20 EG, both driver and car are beast, very quick!

Putting a cd player in my garage was the best thing I did! So many memories that were previously hidden in a wardrobe! I moved from A050m to A7, so it wasn't quite a like for like comparison like it would have been if I went from A050gs. I only did two days on the A7s before I started playing with aero, so comparing my A050m PB to A7 PBs without any other (major) changes to the car. 18/08/18 - 1:36.62. A050m. 225/50/15 on a 9, 205/50/15 on an 8 21/10/18 - 1:36.27. A7. 225/45/15 on a 9, 205/50/15 on an 8. 31/03/19 - 1:35.60. A7 as above. My use of A050gs was with a 205/50/15 on an 8 all around, so not a fair comparison. I'd be interested to see how your friends go with going to a smaller wheel, I think its a worthy experiment! I do really like how the A7s drive and it'd be my choice of tyre if I had to choose between the two. I remembered Paul's name as soon as I uploaded the video also! Epic driver!

@@rhysrhysrhys nothing better than reliving your teens! I dailied my DC2 for a few months before stripping it, it only had a CD player so I rocked out all the burnt CDs I made in high school, was such a good time Thanks! Those numbers look about what I'd expect from seeing all the USA opinions on A7s vs R888Rs and the like, good to know it all works out. If my mates ever pull the trigger I'll do a video or IG post covering the actual data, the calculations show a pretty significant increase in straight line acceleration from the lighter wheels, very keen to see if that translates to reality (muddied a bit by being smaller diameter compared to the 17s)

Gday mate. I run a VL v8 track car and normally use the hankook z214 2 liners. But recently bought a set of these to try in a 225 50 16. The biggest reason for me was that if I see one rain drop I have to garage my car at the minute with the z214s. I'm heading to Calder in 4 weeks. I'll let you know what I think. Thanks for the review. Regards Blair

Good morning, What compound Z214s were you running? I had similar rain issues with running the A7s. I was at Calder a couple weeks back and it was wet in the morning. Wet grip was quite good, all oversteer moments were from the rear letting go mid corner due to lack of heat in the rears, which won't be an issue for you. I've just bought a set of Nankang CRS and hoping to get to Calder on the 25th to see how they go in comparison. They are a little cheaper and in the trusted reviews (Grassroots Motorsports), are just as fast with very similar characteristics overall. Thanks, Rhys

The hankook z214 that i use are the softs. I did have a set of mediums but they took forever to grip up.

Hi mate, enjoyed the 12 and 53 seconds of you talking about a tire. Was wondering if you experienced any wet weather on this tire, i'm in the USA and thinking about this tire for summer Autocross and weekend drives on an ND MX-5, not planning to running on winter at all but just curious about driving on an ocassional day if rain catches you outside. Thanks!

They are fine in the wet, no worse than any of the other performance tyres. I do a bit of road driving to and from the track, or through the hills and have no issues going out in the rain.

Tried the ad09's? seem to be very similar price/performance but wonder how they differ with real world testing
@rhysrhysrhys
@rhysrhysrhys Год назад
I haven't. From the reviews I've watched, they aren't as fast as A052 or RE71RS and take a little more time to come up to operating temperature, which isn't ideal for the hillclimbs as there is no warm up lap. The RE71RS has ample grip right off the line. AD09 could be a better road tyre that can be used on the track, rather than a track tyre than can be driven on the road, which is how I see the RE71RS.

@@rhysrhysrhys yea that makes sense and will help me decide when getting new tyres thanks 🙌

Did you happen to mention what tire pressure you have been running in warm weather? Just wondering! Thank you.

Sorry, 25psi cold. Got it.
@rhysrhysrhys
@rhysrhysrhys 9 месяцев назад
@@LAwrx03 I'm aiming for a 31-32psi hot, so depending on the weather and discipline (hillclimbs, track days etc) will depend on how low I go with colds. Going to 25psi cold should bring it up to 31-32psi, but always worth checking after each session or run.

Yokohama ad09 or Bridgestone re71rs which one is better
@rhysrhysrhys

A052 is the Yokohama competitor to the RE71RS. AD09 is slower than both on the track.

how would these fair on a primarily road driven car? if i were to say put these on an MX5, would they hold up for spirited driving on local twisty roads or are the limits on these so high that you need to be a complete hoon to get any value from these and that they be kept mainly to a track. I wonder how the Re003 would stack up to these, they are much cheaper and a completely different kind of tyre but there aren't any direct comparisons out there so i'm not sure if these would be worth the extra money, that is of course if they can be used on a road car for a bit more than just driving to the track

I've been through Reefton here in Victoria a heap with these and was impressed with their road mannerisms and pace in all kinds of weather. I wouldn't put them on a car I was driving to work, but if it was just a fun weekender, I think they'd be worth the cost. I still did about 7000km on them, which I think is quite good for a tyre like this and what it was used for. I've never driven on the RE003, but other than the 4 for 3 deals being a big positive, it isn't exactly a performance tyre from what I understand. If spirited road driving is your preference, maybe the new AD09 from Yokohama would be worth looking at? There are other fast road going tyres, but they tend to only be made in the larger sizes and its been over 10 years since I've owned a car with wheels larger than 15s (excluding my Odyssey, which has 16s!) I'm driving on the Nankang CRS now, which is a little cheaper than the RE71RS and realistically the road pace and characteristics are very similar. That could be worth looking at as well, though I expect wear rate and lifespan is very similar with what I've experienced in the last few months.
