BRIDGING GAPS | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (February 11, 2024)
We are on the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time; and today’s gospel proclaims Jesus healing a man with leprosy.
“If you wish, you can make me clean,” said the man to Jesus. And the Lord replied and touched him: “I do will it. Be made clean.” Indeed, the man was made clean.
The man’s act of reaching out to Jesus, during that time, was considered a violation of their religious tradition. But here we see the man’s courage and faith in Jesus. He knew that the Lord won’t let him down, so he risked reaching out to him.
But, friends, Jesus also took a risk when he responded to the man and touched him. It shows us what the Lord would do if only he could help and heal us. The gap between the unclean and the clean has been bridged by faith and compassion.
