We are joined by Mr. Trevor Marshall, who gives us a guided tour of Barbados. Mr. Marshall's rendition of the Island's history, is enough to wet one's appetite into visiting the Island.
We get a history tour of the Island. We get to see pictures or photos of what the Island looked like then, as compared to today.
During British colonial rule, and during the time of its slave trading ventures, Barbados was the first port of call for the slave ships to dock. Barbados is the Island, where most of the slaves straight from Africa were auctioned off to other parts/Islands of the Caribbean. Thus the Caribbean has a strong link with Mother Africa. The Island/Caribbean, even today, receives its first sun rise daily from Mother Africa.
Barbados, became a Republic on 30th November 2021, and it gained its Independence on 30th November 1966. Errol Walton Barrow was the Bajan who led Barbados to independence. The late Excellency Errol Walton Barrow among other things was also a pilot, who flew the bombers for the RAF (Royal Air Force) in England, during World War II (WW2). Upon this trip Africalēnisi was surprised to hear that the men from Barbados fought in World War 2. These are facts we are never thought in school/class. Very often Black people or Africans, are made to feel by some that they had played no role in securing Europe's peace and safety.
Africans or Barbadians or the people of the Caribbean, and Africans from other parts of the world, the diaspora, have contributed to European peace they are experiencing at the moment, and it must be called out. Its absolutely mind blowing to have some of them stop Africans on the streets to ask them to present their papers, to prove they have the right to live and work in the UK/Europe! The cheek of it.
Barbados, as per the UN Data, 2021, has a population of 287,902. The island is 20 miles diagonally from North East to South West, and 15 miles laterally from East to West. The Island is also 100 miles east of Saint Vincent and Grenadines.
Barbados, is a beautiful Island, packed with history. It is a must see for all, especially Africans, or the diaspora family.
