Your wealth of knowledge never ceases to amaze me. Keep Makin em! Now project wise, I think my junker 1950 is gonna take a while longer, no competition though, lol.
Oliver66FarmBoy I haven’t cracked her open to see yet, but hoping neither since it spins when being pulled in gear, but it may still have them. Considering it’s missing the blower rotors, and many other pieces, it’s a project for later. Edit: Wouldn’t ya know it, I sold it, lol.
you probably dont give a damn but does someone know a method to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
One of my favourite Olivers! Here in Ontario more red 2255's. Early 80s I spent alot of time in my neighbors 2-180 mfwd. loved it. He had a 2255 as well which I used to pull wagons to the mill. Did'nt spend much time in it but every time was a privilidge. I'm an IH guy but when it comes to V8 power I'll take the Cat power, I had a Massey 1155 for a short time and love V8 power and sound.Thx for that Ethan, keep em coming:)
Nice video, I remember in the 90’s you could buy a good running 2255 with MFWD for under $8000 from dealers because they where looked at as dinosaurs. Now it will cost more than that to get the old girl running again. Even if its a few years I can wait. I like to watch a good tractor restore.
Oliver’s suck really bad on entry when you have a cab. The door bottom hits the tires and doesn’t open far enough. I have one on my 1855 and I am hopefully buying a 2255 with a cab. I can barely squeeze into it.
Great job brother God love ya need get cab back on my 2255 4wd been back tracking 2 much tis the season hope 2 shake your hand someday greetings from Ohio farm lands miami County ❤
thanks my young friend You have forgotten more about Olivers than Most of us will ever know. You are one of the few who will keep the old alive. I grew up amongst old Oliver people and never was interested . If I could turn back time... Thanks for your return................
Nice overview of an important, and handsome, Oliver. Hope you'll get to it some day soon, though I realize you've got plenty of projects, not to mention a time and money budget to contend with. Great channel, and great clip. Thanks for what you're doing!
I think and correct me if I'm wrong but, it was wise for Oliver/White to go with the Cat engine. I've always been a huge fan of the 2255. Like with any tractor, still had it's issues which, I believe Oliver quickly worked those out. Just imagine where Oliver would be today had White stayed away from them... Would love to have a pair of 2255's, were an awesome tractor back in the day. Weren't the cab options a choice between Hinniker and Diamond? Thank you for this information. As always, great video. Cheers :)
In 2015 the Oliver Hart Parr Colectors held their national show at my town of Albert City Ia. The last 2255 was one of the featured exhibits. Don't recall who owned it.
I think I saw that test video here on RU-vid a while back. I've never really been around anything but 20 series Deeres and some old farmalls. Those 404s really aren't a good cold starting motor. The synchro 4020 we have with a turbo does fine because the pump is timed ahead but the 4020 power shift without one can be a bear to start when it gets cold. I just look at the way your 1955 starts cold and it amazes me every time. Thanks for taking the time to explain some Oliver history. We're not really Oliver people around here and all we've got is a potato digger and a running gear that was rebadged as Oliver but it's still really cool to learn. It just makes me mad at what happened when white got their hands on Oliver. That cvt would have been in a league of its own. Thanks again.
Yea it’s on here. I have yet to see a good cold starting Deere. They cranked them so damn slow I think the injection pumps would barely build enough pressure to pop off. Even through the 60 series the starters are so damn anemic. My buddy just bought a nice tight 4320. That thing will hardly start if it drops below 50 and it’s a strong runner.
Yeah, them Deeres dont start great in the cold, we've got a 4010 with a 404 kit in it, and it dont start good below 45 degrees or so. And we live in the south lol, and it wont start well pretty much all winter. The 1066 International we have isnt much better. I'd love to have a late 1750 Oliver something fierce.
I always just liked tractors in general but you are slowly turning me too an Oliver fan. You could have been a salesman you make me want one keep up the good work
Im So happy you are making videos again. We dont have Olivers in sweden but i love The fact that you know all about them. We also have a brand of tractor that died The Volvo Bm. Ran a 400 buster when i was a young kid and I am hoping to own a 814 before i die
The other thing to consider to check is the crankcase depression regulator I as a diesel mechanic I had to take the hose off and put a pipe plug in the intake manifold and put along pieces of coolant stick hose basically cdr. Delete
Could you just imagine if Oliver was still producing tractors under there own name and white never got involved. With all there research they had especially with there version of CVT transmission already back in the day.
Great history about the 2255, but how did you come across this one that you have now? When did you get it? How far away did you have to go get it? Does it run? Answer these when you can thanks again for coming back to you tube glad to see you here telling the history of the Oliver again!
The cab on the mf 1150 were noisy, just good for keeping the wind an rain off of you! Dad had one on the farm when I was a kid into my younger teens and I put a lot of hours behind the wheel of that tractor plowing an chopping! Good power an good on fuel but it left an got traded in on a 4wd
I liked your video glad you got to save the old tractor my friend Jared Lawler he has one too he has been in that oliver magazine you showed us you might look him up he farms with oliver tractors too
Hey Farm Boy. That's cool knowledge. I ran an Minnie G1000 on propane back in the 60's for a while moldboard plowing. She was a horse. I never did like anything propane though. Got to run a 2255 with the 3208 a few evenings chisel plowing maybe in the 80s? Loud? Woom, woom, woom but not all that terrible. Seems like it had a range and transmission gear shifts in it but cant remember for sure. Would that be a fact? Stay healthy.
My uncle had a 2255. He loved the tractor but had lots of trouble with the Cat 3208 including a cracked crank. CAT had come out with some modifications for the 3208 but his dealer failed to install them.
Cat had a crank machining issue that affected the real early engines. It was quickly corrected in production but the ones that made it out first still had failure issues.
The history is always neat on the old equipment and how it came to be. There was one prototype ford that was a v8 with a 3208 cat known as the 10000. Not much history on it or info as Ford junked the project fairly soon after it was built. I've heard the reason being is it took too much weight to balance the tractor out due to the center of gravity and shorter wheel base vs the 401 inline. 15-20k is a good starting point lol I have that in my 9700 and its still in 4 sections lol thanks for sharing!
I have a picture of that on my phone. Didn’t look like it would be to hard to recreate if a guy really wanted to. Just a 9000 rear end with a 3208 strapped to it can’t be that hard with some fab work.
Oliver66FarmBoy if I had a 9000 with a bad 401 I'd probably entertain the idea. Would definitely be something cool. I guess thats what really paved the way for them making the tw30 with an intercooler and get the most out of the 401
Very good info on the 2255's. It would be nice to have one someday! I understand what you mean about how much work it would take to get it up and running again. Most of our tractors are that way. lol There are 3 of them on a local auction tomorrow all are in nice shape they each have fender tanks and all came from the same farm here in NY.
@@Oliver66FarmBoy yes it is. There is a pretty good following of Oliver's in western and central NY. But 3 of them at one farm is rare, and all 3 in good shape.
i still love those old oliver no matter if it’s the 50 series or the 55 series but my favorite series would have to be the 55 series because they were so modern for there time
If i wasnt a die hard john deere guy i would be a oliver guy but i would never be a red paint guy unless it was a massey. I bet if oliver was still in business oliver and john deere would easily be neck and neck and there would be no newholland or case
2255s are neat. Myself tho, im a John deere guy through and through and will always love a soundguard cab. 15k to 20k is allot. Is that just mechanical or is that cosmetic too?
Quick question, would those tine bars off that 8 row work on your 540? I remember you saying something about not having to work ground in front of it with those tine bars on
That tractor sure is a beast. Cant wait to see it someday running again. Any idea how the White tractors became silver colored? I like the color but wondered if there was a story to it.
The 2255 was nice with the cat in it , thirsty as hell although but it pulled good if you added weights to it when plowing etc ,it had more power than butt weight and thats a problem if your bull gears cannot handle that cat engine. The surface of the gears start flaking on their meshing surfaces.,another problem with them. The cat was a over torqued beast , putting engine torque load on those Oliver designed gears that couldn't handle it for too long ,under extreme loads.Although a nice tractor.. Short on the butt gears although with the Cat..My dad traded in for a 1370 case,,heavy beefy sob
Question i found a 2255 near me with a bad motor.... will it handle a 5.9 12v cummins like drive train that.. I got 12v laying from my truck got wreck..
Looks to me like after the rebuild to get a shiny piece of curved stainless between the exhaust pipe and the oil pan clipped with metal clamps to the exhaust pipe. The air blowing from the fan would need to hit the stainless to carry the heat away. How is the transmission on this tractor?
Nice video I like the 2255 and this is hard to keep watching the videos since my old man passed on my birthday he lived the videos and always ask if there a new video from the Oliver kid he enjoyed all your videos and like to see them work
@@Oliver66FarmBoy Yes I will not disagree with that one bit, by the time they changed from the soundgaurd in the 90s they was extremely dated compared to everyone else.
God forbid you ever cut yourself but I bet your blood runs Oliver Green, you should be president of the Oliver historical society! I really enjoyed this vlog. Thank you again Ethan!!!
Thanks for the history lesson. Would love to see the videos of the repairs on that tractor, and see her work. Do the 2255 have a similar drive train to the 2-150s?
@@Oliver66FarmBoy I had to look that tractor up, not familiar with the Minnie moes. Seems like the G1355 was an 2255 from the bell housing back. Maybe I just made myself a heretic saying that though.
I believe the Allis Acousta cab in the 7030 and 50's were quieter than the deere. I'd rather sit in a soundguard all day though if I had my choice. Lol The red vs green always confused me because I always figured red weren't even third best by the time ih went under. I never hated IH or deere equipment just the people. Lol
Rebuild the hydraulics, rebuild the three speed, fix the tin, go through the cab, all new seals and gaskets, exhaust system, anything that could be broken that I don’t know about yet then paint and 6 new tires. You don’t just take a tractor that’s sat outside for almost 30 years drop a new engine in it and see it.
@@Oliver66FarmBoy there's a lot of Oliver tractors sitting our here in the west Wyoming. When you get started I'd be happy to put you in contact with some guys
I hate to say it but I think I would have had to buy a JD new back then. The 30 series was much more "refined" then compared to Oliver or MF in my opinion. But coolness factor 2255 wins everytime with a 1155 in close second.
Deere arguably had a better cab but that’s about it. Only a 16 speed in the quad range compared to 18 with the over under. Oliver had a better three point and draft control, ran regular pioneer hydraulic couplings so you didn’t need Deere’s leaky bastard fittings. Oliver was overall heavier on their base weight. Was getting better fuel economy. Changeover on PTO speeds was a lot nicer. Drawbar was bigger. And 10 times easier to work on by far. And an Oliver will out cold start a Deere hands down any day of the week.
4630 is way better tractor and a 6030 well will out work both by a long shot deeres hydraulic pump is way better and the brakes and cab are way better. We bought a 1950 t new it was not the best but run good and pulled good the bought a new 4630 sound gard cab been Deere ever since.
Karl Densch there’s a big difference in a 1950T and a 4630.... age, horsepower class when new... of course a 4630 was better then on pulling your comparing apples to concrete...
When I was a kid we had Ford, Deere, IH, Case, MF, Allis Chalmers, Versatile, Steiger, and White still being made. I wish I could have seen Oliver and MM being made also. I was born in 76 so by then MM was done and Oliver was coming to an end. I miss the days of all different colors. I am not loyal to just one color but that has a lot to do with being around a lot of different brands as a child. They all had there good and not so good ideas.
Mine has 3208 and big estate steps with 2 gallon extra lube finder mounted out there it is all oliver staying ahead of the curve this one might be close 2 the last 1
