here is a personal film of mine from the Turks head Brierley hill mid 1960's (note it is not the building that is there now that used to have the same name).
The film features my late grandfather William Plant (billy plant) in part two of this three part film,
he is shown leaving the pub as someone shouts " dow forget them kidney beans bill".
it shows a fascinating insight into pub culture as it was then and the local pigeon flyer's.
i think this is well worth sharing with anyone who has an interest in our local bygone era

The gentleman reading times off the pigeon clocks around 2 mins in was my grandfather, Dick Hickman. He passed away in 1982. He would be 107 now.

Oh my goodness, Mr Masters! I remember you sir from when I used to go into the library with my grandad, Reg Corbett whilst my nan used to go round the town (you probably don't remember everyone of course!) Blast from the past, made me smile that has! Hope all is well.

It's amazing how a lot of the accents are remarkably different than how most people speak round this area nowadays. Some of the pronunciations sound northern

I grew up in Brierley Hill, still live in the Black Country albeit slightly upmarket Stourbridge now; anyway, still proud to have a Brierley Bonk accent, but you are right what you say - any town now, Dudley, Brierley Hill, Stourbridge - hardly any proper Black Country can be heard! And it's not just Northern....

Sitting in Halesowen today, I saw a group of school kids approaching, all of them speaking in that horrible Thames Estuary accent they get form the TV. The Black Country way of speaking seems to be dying and will probably be gone for ever when those kids have kids in their turn. Very sad.....
