i subbed and thank you, tho i wanted to ask you if it was a carb for 4 HP briggs, cuz it looks the same as one i m trying to rebuild, it was on rotottiler ariens rt 424 , it does have an HP 100292 0507 01 on it but cannot find S.. on internet, thank you
Definitely appreciate you for this video the only one on RU-vid..❤❤❤❤❤❤ i just brought my son an f1 kart with this engine thats been sitting awhile and was trying to figure out how it works.
The main reason why Briggs & Stratton made the pulse carburetor, was as the fuel tank gets low on fuel it leans out the engine. So this was a great sick so the engine would run at the same amount of fuel no matter how much she was in the bigger tank that pump the gas into little bowl that had inside the big tank.
Thank you. I replaced the diaphragm and the passages "looked" to be clog free but I didn't check the main jet and the engine is "hunting" (surging) and I have to run it with the choke halfway closed. I'll take it off again and be more thorough. Great tips!
@@VintageEngineRepairs went over it again, this time cleaning out all passages again AND main jet. Problem solved. I'm a little disappointed in myself because I usually am more thorough than I was this first time around.
By far the best! Question - my brass pick up tube ends in a knob, no filter. I see a filter part listed but not available. Use as is or fashion an in-tank filter. Not sure if the mechanics will allow that approach. By the way, while cleaning the rust from my tank, I pulled up one of the shorter tubes. Maybe dropped in assembly? Thanks again.
@@VintageEngineRepairs does it have to be a sealed system to draw gas? I have a small in-tank filter that I could connect to the brass tube with plastic hose but don’t think it will always be entirely submerged. Also found a Briggs tube that includes a filter that looks like it could be grafted onto the brass tube. I know the second option will work but I’ll save the $10 for the part and try the in-tank first if you think it might work. Thanks
Great rebuild explanation. How high should the spring/retainer behind the diaphragm sit a above the carb body and is it ok to stretch the spring to achieve the desired height? Thank you
@@VintageEngineRepairs I thought to look at it from where you can remove the valve and the small hole is for drawing gas during idle, and the larger hole is exposed when you open the butterfly like a secondary.
I have this carb on an older 5hp Briggs. It runs, but I can't get the diaphragm cover to stop leaking. Thought at first it was the new Chinese diaphragm I had installed, so got an OEM Briggs one which didn't leak as bad, but still leaking. Next took the diaphragm cover off and found it was slightly warped (probably from muffler heat), so sanded it smooth with sandpaper on a piece of glass and got it flat. Still leaks and don't know where to go next???
My carb pumps from tank to bowl and then floods carb any idea why it wont spray into the engine I cleaned the carb with carb cleaner and every hole is clean and clear . Any info woukd be appreciated thanks
Hmm interesting, when you say floods the carb, how can you tell? What are the signs and symptoms? It could be an engine timing issue blowing air back through the intake?
The air filter tray is off and can see fuel puddle in carb, i was thinking might be timing or valve clearance issue. Want try easier way first. Any chance might be the needle jet bot set properly or governor rod not working. I fix my own stuff and not a professional I thank you for responding
Guessing I have an older carb but no jet seems to be either removable or shown on part diagram, only the screw and spring. Have you come across one of these before? Tried to upload a pic but RU-vid won’t allow.
Ive a used mtd 5 tiller. It came with a 5ank full of rust water( they sid it runs strong) shit you better be strong to pull on it forever and never start it. Ive bought a new carb just havent exchanged it yet. I need a tank too but not for 300$
I don’t I’m afraid! Each carburetor linkage setup can vary quite a bit depending on what machine it’s come off. I suggest searching for the service manual for your particular engine :)
hi, whats the screw head below the main jet, i can't see it reference in the part diagram, i tried to remove it and completely went through it, i have no drilled this out, what is its purpose or can i replace it thanks
@@VintageEngineRepairs thanks for your reply! 01:21 when you unscrew the main jet there is also a Philips head underneath that i tried undoing unless that was purely design
I have one of these carbs which I cleaned up but after sitting for a couple days it will not start unless I prime it with some carb cleaner? Once started it restarts great all day long. Any ideas on what I missed??
