Can the viewfinder mount system be used without the Sony handle? As we are mostly recording sound externally nowadays, I don't want the handle on the camera, but of course still need a good viewfinder mount up front and far enough from my eyes when shouldering the camera. Thanks !
The sony is a pain? Take the plastic handle off lose all audio? Can you even use lavs without the plastic handle? The plastic handle will always be behind the CofG if you have a half chunky lens like a 70-200. That shoulder pad, you have to store it - you dont with VCT, all these things need thinking over. And of course the big sony design boo boo is the lead from the body to the monitor is too short to get any comfortable handheld placement with a 'monocular'. So any rig maker has thier work cut out trying to fix that donkey. Would you agree?
Once you add a VLock or Gold mount battery system to the FX6 it becomes a much nicer shoulder mounted camera. But yes, the LCD cable isnt quite as long as you'd like. The FX6 Handle is a terrible design and definitely the cameras biggest short fall. IMO no one rig manufacturer have cracked a perfect setup for this camera yet. Bright Tangerine isnt bad but their obviously lacking a proper battery solution and a grip relocator. Im using the Tilta right now and while not bad i really wish I had that EVF bracket and hand brace.
I've never understood the logic of audio in only being possible with the detachable handle attached, that has never made any sense. Regarding the LCD cable - to be honest no camera as short as the FX6 is going to be great on your shoulder unless you add something to counterbalance heavy lenses. When you start moving the camera body back it gets difficult to access the buttons and switches, really you want you buttons and controls where you can see them, so this means forwards of your shoulder, so counterbalancing is key if you want balanced. Or just just keep it stripped right down and stay as light as possible. If you buy a camera designed to be compact and lightweight for hand holding, it shouldn't really come as a surprise that it isn't such a great shoulder cam. Just be thankful it actually has an LCD you can use, try using a Komodo on your shoulder and then you have even bigger problems as all the controls are on the top of the camera and there is no movable LCD. VCT is dated and frankly rubbish. Unless you have the very expensive and heavy Crosziel Quicklok you will have play. A camera with a VCT base plate and shoulder pad all too easily becomes too heavy to hand hold for long periods. If you want to keep the Kasbah shoulder pad on the Left Field then you can use a Dovetail riser. The beauty of this is that the riser stays on the tripod so you are not adding un-necessary weight to the camera. VCT never really caught on in the world of film cameras or digital film production because it only really suits old school ENG camcorders where the shoulder pad, mounting shoe and rear hook are integrated into the longer and already large camera body. When you try to put it under an existing camera it aways adds extra un-necessary hight, weight and makes the setup less stable. Now most tripods have quick release plates and other options like Arri dovetails have become more affordable I don't see the appeal of VCT. I moved away from VCT some years ago.
@@alisterchapman good to hear your thoughts :). The c200 can be moved further back because it has a long cable and also some switches on the lcd. But to be fair most of the shoulder rigs I have built had a small camera (fs100,zcam,c200,dslr) and then a vlock at the rear to make a shoulder balanced system based on a pair of rods. For tripods I use the acra amazon/fake system which is good small and light but not perfect
@@sondreformolindheim7108 Is that true? If so it is very unknown. To me it is a huge deal if the camera is on a gimbal with handle off to get some form of sound - to synch - not to use. Thanks for the info? As it happens this pushed my a long way towards canon!
