The Brightin Star 28mm 2.8 could be used on an APSC camera as a 42mm equivalent Lens, then there would not be issues with the corners.

Cool lens, though for Fuji APS-C I'd prefer the Voigtlander 27mm f2

yes it's true it would be a nice 42mm lens, good for everyday use!

nice! a high resolution Nikon Zf (for APS-C crop to a 40mm equiv.) would be such a awesome fit. i watched a video about Nikons focus confirmation with manual lenses (with face/Eye detection) i'm all MFT and L-Mount though. would love to see a High-res "S5iiR" or maybe even better a LX100 like body (lets call it SL1 :) with that lens... a bit steep priced for an instant buy.. but you know what? i love the sun stars 😅

You love the sunstars! haha okay :P Regarding the price, it's not cheap, esp for impulse buy. but it's a really beautiful lens made of brass! I think it totally justifies the price even with the shortcomings I pointed out.

I think you could achieve this with the a7cR. If you use a Techart autofocus adapter, it’d be the most ridiculous point-and-shoot camera in existence

The images look very nice, and it's a beautiful object. Brightin Star seems very interesting even among the interesting Chinese boutique opticians.

Thank you for the review, Richard ! I am wondering if such a lens mounted on the camera offers any advantage against a phone. Probably not. But I guess some people would find it fun, a sort of pinhole lens.
@TheRealRichardWong

There would be a few reasons to do that. 1 it's f/2.8 maximum aperture so compare to a phone even with 1" sensor, it should still give you better low light performance, 2. you can adjust aperture size to give you different DOF/sunstars effect 3. it feels so much better and satisfying than shooting with a phone 4. at f/2.8 it gives you natural/real shallow depth of field effect that phone can't give you.

Unfortunately you need to stop-down this lens to get acceptable IQ, while the phone provides good quality at F/1.8. And the sunstars does not look good, then it's manual focus. :) At the end the phone has a huge portability advantage while a FF camera is heavy anyway no matter the lens. But of course the manual lens means fun, I see some people bought it and found it very nice.

Hello, I have a question of the lens, the rangefinder is accurate when the lens is f/2.8 or 5.6?
@TheRealRichardWong

Sorry i can't answer as I didn't test it on a rangefinder camera

Would APS-C make the field curvature issue basically irrelevant?
@MattJacobs
@MattJacobs 7 месяцев назад
The sensor size would have no bearing on the focus plane besides making it generally deeper since you need to focus farther away for the same composition that you would have on full frame. So no, it wouldn’t magically remove the field curvature.
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 7 месяцев назад
I think it would help, because it's really at the very edge/corner that I notice that field curvature issue. The more center (APS-C crop) part seems to have minimum field curvature
