This Brightline construction update is part 3 of a 3 part series providing my most comprehensive look to date at the progress on the new Orlando Line. In addition to my standard locations thanks to some assistance from Brightline, I was able to get access to locations I have not filmed at before. This part will look at the section between State Road 520 and Cocoa, including the Saint Johns River Bridge and the Interstate 95 Bridge and arch panel tunnel.

Hope Brightline sees some success. If it does it would sort of prove the theory that delivering a working intercity is the best advertisement for the expansion of passenger rail compared to bloated vanity projects as a first go.

Have enjoyed this series. While I live in an area where work is going on, I had not concept of how vast this project is.

Thats exactly why I make these videos. It’s hard to comprehend just how big of a project this is and how many different aspects are being worked on simultaneously. There is a lot more too it than just laying track.

It’s so interesting to see everything come together… Brightline has to be the most competent high speed (technically higher speed) private rail companies in the US. I fully have confidence in their Brightline west project, especially for how they seem to be staying on track in Florida despite their extended revenue loss and closure

Interesting views of the south side of the St Johns bridge. I’ve been thinking, the trains running along 528 will be going 40+ mph faster than the cars

Thanks for another great video! I'm glad to see that Brightline understands the value you are adding with these videos, and giving you special site access. It's a smart move on their part.

Wow, that was again very explanatory. When the branch from the FEC to the Brightline is finished, the track construction can also begin from the side. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven

Well done Austin! You are the fckn man. Your coverage of this project is second to none. With your knowledge of civil engineering, if you're not on Brightline's payroll by now, they are missing out on an intelligent and insightful man. They owe you more than access. A lot more.

Great series of videos. With the lack of hurricanes this season hitting Florida they really didn’t lose any time building up the infrastructure. I do DoorDash and I got a close up look at all the construction of it in northern Palm Beach County. I’m waiting to see how they do the bridge in Jupiter/Tequesta area.

I'm really enjoying your coverage of this project. I rode some high speed trains on a recent trip to the UK and am looking forward to traveling on this railroad when it is completed. I hope it goes all the way to Tampa eventually, and that you document that construction also. Good job!

Brightline is likely to see success and profitability within a year of opening the Orlando Line in such that possibly after a year and a half the section between Florida Route 520 and The Cocoa Tunnel will be double tracked. Also, Open Railway Map is following your videos Austin very closely in such that your description of the details including what will be single tracked is accurately noted and updated on their railway map apps. Many NIMBYs and anti-rail advocates could likely see their mouths drop in shock of Brightline's Orlando Extension success. Unlike Acela, despite being a profitable success and utilizing an aging infrastructure on much of the Northeast Corridor Brightline's profits is likely to be more noticeable and they being Brightline can invest the profits back into improvements including double tracking. Again, Great job Austin. Perhaps and maybe I might find myself booking a ride on Brightline when the Orlando Expansion opens.

Thanks again! It is a lot easier to see how it will work now that most of the main grading of the roadbeds are done. It was hard to imagine when they started!

Amazing video as usual! Did Brightline ever say why they built the one tunnel under 528/I-95 as opposed to another bridge? It looked like a massive project when seemingly another bridge could have done the job in that section. I get the Cocoa tunnel due to the existing roadway but the other tunnel project looked insane!

great update, thanks. Have you noticed that the angle of the track subbed looks like it has a camber down towards the north? It seems that way as I drive the Beachline and look at it. Might be optical illusion.

Could be for drainage purposes, not being finished, or just an optical illusion. It looked level to me while on it.

This all should had been built 30 years ago when Orlando areas started to burst with growth. Would have been cheaper then too.

Roaming Railfan, Excellent update, thank you! If you happen to know, why did Brightline install both the eastbound and westbound beams across I95 whereas, in other locations, they have installed only one beam (I.e., westbound)? You also mentioned in this part 3, that the St. John’s River bridge is almost ready for their beam installations as well? I wonder if that is what I saw the other day commuting from Orlando back to Brevard County wherein, there were multiple 18-wheelers with what appeared to me with concert beams staged south of SR 528 (Beachline)? Keep up the excellent coverage of the Brightline expansion project! John
@RoamingRailfan
@RoamingRailfan 2 года назад
I think that's just due to how it was designed, they had to build all of it instead of being able to do half, plus it means they don't have to shut down 95 again in the future.
@acme54321
@acme54321 2 года назад
I imagine they did it so they don't have to deal with shutting down 95 in the future. That can't be cheap or easy.

I know I’ve asked this question a couple times but has orange county voted on either the trains going to follow the 528 to the convention center or 417 to Disney because I’ve seen that the community of hunters Creek has started a lawsuit and petition against Brightline building on 417.

I have a question: The only bridge with steel beams is over I95. All the others are made with concrete beams (including the new fixed bridges on the FEC). Why is that?
@RoamingRailfan
@RoamingRailfan 2 года назад
The bridge over Crane Creek is also metal along with a couple in South Florida. I think it just depends on the situation.
@brucepiper2965
@brucepiper2965 2 года назад
I believe its due to the span distance. Steel beams can span longer distances than Concrete beams.
