Brilliants first singer and guitarist was Marcus Myers. June Montana, formerly the backing singer, took over as lead vocalist when Marcus left. Jimmy Kauty took over the guitar and they went on with Stock Atkin etc. Marcus decided to leave just as the band were signing to Food records, he wanted to go in another direction as they say. Colours, Good Friends, Holst, Screaming like an Angel, Coming up for the downstroke, Push, Soul murder were all originally sang and written by Marcus with the rest of the band. He never got publishing, thats just the way it is. They played the Bat Cave regularly and are on the compilation album from the club, The Whip and Young Limbs and Numb Hymns, amongst others.
I remember getting this expecting something more goth from the sleeve!I liked the goth funk style though, also with danse society and play dead they had something like bootsy's rubber bass! Then brilliant went proper pop.Liked that too I'm afraid.
