FF9 ones were A+ though.. then it went downhill for sure. The FFT ones are also great, but not as many accessories. Its like they just continued downhill after the FF9 ones.
I'm a big FFVII fan as well and played it on PS1. Really debating about getting him. I have Barrett so far and I like the quality. But after seeing this review I might just skip him. Thanks for the honest review.
After the last few PAK and BA figures I've got I'm starting to want to just lean more toward static figures. I had to email them and get them to replace two of them because of really bad defects, and then some of the design choices are really bad. For how expensive they are they really need to get better quality on their figures.
The loose joints and legs poping off is what gets me, as you said, you can only pose them in the vanilla stance, as a die hard fan and collector of ff7 id say get them, they should of come with more accessories like the dragon quest
I had the same existential dread dealing with this figure lol. There are some figures that are the complete package; literal perfection. They have everything you could ever want and are always a joy to handle. Ones you get and say to yourself “if this is the last figure I ever buy I’m happy”. This sephiroth is the total opposite, it’s a pain to handle and comes with nothing.
First off: Thanks for still reviewing them. Since they butchered Fei I didn't dare to buy any of them besides Aqua, Ventus and Riku V2. Those were "ok" but far from the quality we're usually used from Figma/MaxFactory or S/H. Bandai. So I really appreciate ya going through this still, even after the thing that was "Barret" ... Now onto the rant: Ya know the first figure of the PAK series when they were released aka Lightning was done by SE and Kotobukiya, I do wonder if they are still collaborating (at least production line-wise) with SE to make the PAK, Bring Arts and some Statue figures. Especially since some Koto Figures have similar problems as the SE ones do, bad material choices, odd coloring, sloppy QC and most also never look like the promoted model... But they removed all hints from the packaging. Given the Pricing and all: They could fix most problems so darn easily, for example for the heavy weapons give us a hand with a peg without the ball joint. And who in their right mind would design the hair like that given that the pegs/pins are not very durable under heavy load? Especially without including spares. It is baffeling that the first Playart figures from SE years back were so darn good and had such a stellar pricepoint, and nowadays ya get scraps for 2-3 times the pricing from them. Then I got a whole other problem with the coat design. As ya pointed out the QC of Bring Arts is the pits, sadly. I got Aqua, Ventus and Riku V2 here out of necessity since no other figure maker (despite S.H. Figuarts/Bandai giving us the perfect Sora years back) wants to do SE figures since their licensing is as equally meh as is the material and figure quality. Figma does seem to have their hands on NIER now, am eagerly awaiting the A2 figure there. Despite the better judgement I have still BA Game Zack Fair on Pre-order.... but there they didn't even include a second face. Where is his smile? Where is Sephiorth's smirk he directed towards "Cloud" when he walked into the fire in Niebel back then? And why the hell do all BringArts come in different sizes even when they are from the same series? Seph's supposed to be around 190cm IRL there! For the money he costs he should at least come close to Barret yet he looks like a dwarf there. x,D Sorry for the long rant but it's downright frustrating to see that SE is so darn inconsistent and learn resistent with everything, still. After all this time. Once more, thank you for going throught the motions here. Seeing another FF Figure being so lack luster is really just a shame.
@@TwinbladeAlkaid nice read thanks for taking the time to type these out. Yeahh sadly as a fan I need to buy everyone of them, just think of it as completing that classic wall paper : ( I think I even ordered the bike …
I can’t compare with Barret since I don’t have him yet, but compared to Cloud, Tifa and Aerith the size difference is definitely respected. The whole line is just very small compared to other figure lines.
It’s crazy because the FFT figures are fantastic. It’s a shame they didn’t seem to sell that well was really hoping for an orlandu and gafgarion. Don’t know what went wrong with the ff7 stuff.
It's a shame the FF 7 Bring arts line seems to be a let down. The Dragon Quest line looks to be better oddly enough although I've heard it has QC issues too.
Yeah, got him a month ago and he’s definitely the worst of the bunch (don’t have Barret yet). Very frustrating, especially the coat. But, he looks fantastic and that’s honestly the reason I collect these. I’m not a child playing with his figures, I pose them and display them for their look so they do the job. I do have to mention I don’t pay the full price. Look around a bit and you can easily find them for half price (which is still too expensive but at least not full price expensive).
My last Square figure was Play Art Kai Metal Gear Rising Raiden and while it was okay, I never quite liked it and did away with it, and that was considered "one of the good ones". With Bring Arts, all I've heard is that they're mediocre at best. As a FFXIV fan who ordered both the Alphinaud and Alisaie Bring Arts, it feels like a freight train is speeding my way; an imminent crash, but I'm in the same position as you where I just really like the property and there are no other figures of characters from that IP. It sucks. The prices are ludicrous for what little you get, and the quality isn't even remotely up to snuff. I feel like Square Enix is absolutely mental, but they get away with it because they hoard their IPs like their life depends on it, so anyone who wants figures of them will have to pay "The Square Enix Tax". They do it because they know they can get away with it, because otherwise, I have no idea how they think any of this stuff is at all acceptable. I want to say that they're stuck in the past with their engineering, their limited pool of accessories (no extra faces... in 2024??? really??? for that price???) and plastic and joint quality, but like I said: I'm fairly sure they're aware that their products are awful and overpriced, but do it because they know they can get away with it and don't care. In an ideal world, Bandai or GoodSmile, or hell even Aniplex or Kaiyodo would be making figures of characters from their games, but we all know that they don't allow actually competent figure manufacturing companies to even touch their games, with the only exceptions being stuff like Nier (the anime ver.) and Dragon Quest, which have different rules and cannot be hoarded by them, which they probably hate.
