Bravo, A&W - excellent video. My brother is almost 70 years old and has not stopped talking about how much he misses the whistle dog since it went away. This was his absolute go-to favorite from early childhood. And I thought it was just him! 😂 👍

You would think that if this food favourite rated its own movie, the outlets would offer a reasonable effort in its preparation...but that is a bridge too far, apparently.
I wrote years ago about how I missed the Whistle Dog. I got no reply, so I figured that was the end of it. It's only back for a limited time, but I guess that's better than nothing. It is disappointing that it's not back for good.
YES!!! Keep it! This is a great return! Everyone loves them! A & W have the best fast food and bringing back the whistle dog is the best decision!! Do not take it off the menu anymore! ❤❤❤❤😊
Getting a Whistle Dog was one of my first memories of coming to Canada, and I've loved them ever since. I was so sad to see them go, and was petitioning for its return early on. Incidentally, it was only more recently during their last return that I discovered that mustard makes them even better. It's like a missing ingredient.
What a great video and a great marketing strategy!!! I loved it! I worked at A&W in 89/90 but haven’t heard of it, must’ve been discontinued by then already…. I’ve also been a regular customer in the last year or so and now I’m definitely going to try the Whistle Dog!
As a guy who grew up in Scarborough aka the centre of Canada; I never knew about the whistle dog. Maybe it’s a thing in Northern Canada, I don’t know. But for me A&W has always been about the Teen Burger, onion rings, Root Beer and that bear mascot.
Extremely easy to replicate (and even improve on - all-beef weiner, real cheese) and my slicing labour is free! But, my wife never stops talking about the Whistle Dog and, given the prices they charge, A&W (the best fast food restaurant in Canada) should be able to find a way to keep it on the menu.
Does anyone remember the oddball bun used to make these in the mid 90's I don't know how to describe them but the top and bottom of the buns were linked in the bag they came in so you tore them away from each other when you took one out to use them. Thus the inside and outside got toasted in the rolling toaster machine seen in the video. They were right though...we sold barely any of these things. I like them though...no relish though...no relish.
That easy and folks are complaining about it? I've never heard of these, but now I'm going to start making them at home because it's easy and cheaper for more of them by buying the ingredients at the store
Is anything? Based on pure value, no. But then, I don't think even $3 is better than the $1.50 Costco hot dog and drink, either. But! It's still pretty dang good in its own right! =)
I would say they are the same ..but people like that it's sliced that way and grilled on both sides..I do too! They are equal to me.. Costco for cost ..A&W for convenience and how it's cooked with the bacon/cheese.. 🤤😋

It’s like comparing apples and oranges. Costco dog is simplicity great dog for great value. The whistle dog I’ve never tried, just like oranges. But I have had an apple. That’s why I make the comparison.
I didn't watch the movie but I did recently order a Whistle Dog at the Sooke, BC outlet. I know they do a lot of pre-cooking there, producing lots of dreadful lukewarm burgers, so I asked for a Whistle Dog "freshly prepared", hoping that would happen. But no. It came out through the order slot in 2 minutes, barely warm...the cheese didn't melt...and it was quite flavourless. I did ask for mustard, but I was told it wasn't available. Do they not put mustard on their burgers? Was that not true? I would give this new version a score of 3 out of 10. So typical for the 2024 version of A&W, and particularly true for our Sooke outlet. BTW, I also a ordered a milk as a beverage, and asked for a chilled mug...those are still offered for their root beer selections. The mug given to me was fresh out of the compartment at the front counter AND apparently fresh out of the dishwasher, still steaming. So I asked for my mug to be filled with ice to chill it off. The staff were stunned by my request, but after I pointed out that pouring cold milk into a warm mug defeated the purpose of asking for a chilled mug. A larger mug was provided, filled with ice for a few seconds, and that was their best effort.
