We were so fortunate to hear him in Les Miz early in his career in Detroit, and at a benefit concert he did for the church of the family housing him. And then, we got to hear him again approx 20-25 years later. He's always wonderful, whether young and being made up to look older, or older, and made up to look younger. Heartfelt singing, wonderful actor - our favorite Valjean ever. :)
I had the privilege of meeting J. Mark McVey on Monday while he was singing with Ernie Haase and Signature Sound in a new tour- Inspiration on Broadway. I also heard Ramin Karimloo on Friday in concert and Alfie Boe in Les Mis on Saturday. Mr McVey is the best lyrically and his feelings when he sings comes from his heart making him more believable. This video is from 2008 (?) and he sound exactly the same today 2015.
I was also upset that they cut so much out. My co-worker was one of the chorus members in the back and he told me that the reason they did was because it was the philharmonic's gig and due to their union, they could not go beyond 2 1/2 hours. So they cut the show down to 2hrs 10min with a 20 minute intermission.
