Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by political commentator Benedict Spence who believes it would be a “mistake” for the Tories to combine with Reform UK.

A former member of the Cabinet has urged Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to consider appointing Nigel Farage as a Conservative minister.
Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg has proposed that other senior Reform UK politicians should be allowed to run as Tory candidates in the upcoming general election.
The prominent right wing MP and former business secretary believes the move is crucial for the Conservative party to have any chance of overcoming the significant electoral challenge they currently face.
Recent opinion polls show that the Tories are trailing behind Labour by approximately 20 points, and they also suffered significant losses in local elections held earlier this month.

Gosh Thanks. I would hate to be in a party for which you voted for .Now I know. I shall vote Labour , I do so hate ignorance and stupidity and avoid it when ever I can. It may be time for the UK or England to consider proportional representation (PR) to elect their members of Parliament. There are various ways of doing this. In New Zealand they use mixed member proportional representation (MMP). NZ works under the Westminster system of Govt. also. MMP works quite well in representing a small party vote whilst keeping the main parties, but they have to work with a minority if they get a proportion of the vote. This way Reform could work with the Conservatives without entirely spitting the vote. Worth looking into, to accommodate more than the two main parties with First Past the post. It all starts with the electoral system. Start there as a viable tested change.

The Conservative Party have proved how useless they are over the last 14 years. They have totalled failed to take swift and positive to address major issues. The REFORM UK PARTY have a very clear and positive strategy as to how they would deal with such matters. We certainly don’t deserve several years HARD LABOUR. I plead with the Electorate to study what this new emerging Party has to offer. They may only be running neck and neck with the Conservatives in recent polls but will soon overtake them for very obvious reasons.

Even if every would be reform voter in the polls votes Tory, a massive highly unrealistic assumption to make, it still wouldn’t get the Tories close to Labour. They’ve become so obsessed with the far right the Tories have utterly abandoned the centre where 80% of the public sits politically. What’s worse is the demographic timebomb that’s coming the Tories way, barely 10% of voters under 50 intend to vote Tory. Working age Brits have totally washed their hands of the Conservative Party and that’s not something they recover from in 5, 10 or 15 years, that’s an existential electoral crisis looming. Comparable voting intention for Labour among this group is 60%. We are the generation that’s borne the brunt of the Tory disaster and we are going to pay for it for the rest of our lives, do they think we’re ever going to trust them?
