great info here...I am looking to buy a horse...not necessarily my first ever but is my first in a very long time...and alot of things you suggest here make sense...in the past I have given my new horses a week or so to get used to their new surroundings before i start training and riding...but I do usually start on a longe line or a round pen just so i can see what they have been taught and what may need work...for me at this point i am only looking for a good trail horse so I would want to see their ability to over come new potentially scary obstacles and this also allows the horse to get a feel for how I ask them for things and what I want out of them...I may be more laid back on some tings and more strict on others...these first few weeks can make or break a bond with a new horse... and allowing the time necessary for them to adjust will help ensure they learn to trust you as a new owner.
Ive been out the saddle for 17 years until 4 weeks ago when i met my girl Bailey, What was going to be a part loan has turned into a full loan & she moves here with me in the next week. I cant wait! So busy preparing, Thankyou for the advice 😁 Noted ✅️
He’s great! Because he’s a draft and just doesn’t get how to get his feet picked up we have to buy shoeing stocks but other than that he’s amazing, such a good boy.
Thanks for the info Im bring my new horse home tomorrow and I’m excited and nerves. She is my 2nd horse the first was already at the stables but this one is getting delivered and I was not sure how it was going to go she is going to be in quarantine for a week and I think I am going to take your advise and let her settle in for that first week.
