this is such a great video. I had a springer for 14 years. I forgot until seeing this video how much energy they have as pups. Mine used to do the same thing your pup was doing in the bed. He would suddenly start bouncing, and growling and attacking nothing. We were a team in the field. He used to ride with me in the truck and sit right next to me. Then at some point he would put out his paw and rest it on the wheel. I would steer with my knees but put my hands behind my head. Everyone we passed thought Windsor was driving. It was hilarious. When he died I cried for 2 weeks straight. I haven't had a dog since he left.
Congrats Dejais! I have had many breeds of dog, and loved them all, but Kayla has overall been the best fit for us and is a perfect blend of a dog that is happy lounging around the house but can get her play on in a snap. Not a day goes by that she doesn't give us great joy. And the easiest dog I have had to train by far!! She's our baby!! CONGRATS!! :D
So cute! My springer molly lived 14 yrs She was the best dog ever. So good with our kids, played hard, loved hard and I swear she could understand me when I talked to her! I guess that's why they are English!
OMG your dog was so adorable!! I recent had my dog of the same breed put down a month ago and this video reminded me so much of him. He even had the same white spot on his back. Only difference really was mine was black and white. Anyways I just wanted to say thank you for posting this video because even though I was crying lol it just reminded me of my baby :).
Just put a deposit on an ESS puppy. Should get him late August. I am beside myself I am so excited. Love the song in this video. Puppies are a lot of work and I would gladly have taken an older dog but none available. It's so nice to get them when they are babies though.. I am going to love this little guy until he and I are both very old. Haven't had a pup since the early 90s. My last girl, I got when she was a year old and had her for 13 years. Kayla is so cute. How long have you had her? She looks a little bit like Bonnie who was also the same breed of gun dog who loved me very much. I also owned her when I was a little girl. She died when I was about to start 1st Grade. R.I.P. Bonnie, we'll miss you and your intelligent ways of protecting us.
jaime-leigh mccarthy - Is your lab well socialized? Kayla is grown now and she just became certified as my service/therapy dog. We put her in dog camp a lot at first to get socialized, and we still go to a lot of dog parks. I have had labs and think the two breeds would go well together, but read up on introducing a new dog to the family. If a dog is coming over to the house, we always take Kayla out to neutral territory (like the parking lot of our apartment building or past the sidewalk), and have them check each other out. Then they go in the apartment together. That way, there's less of a chance that Kayla feels invaded or replaced. Also watch feeding times. Might want to feed them in separate rooms for a while and slowly introduce. I'm a big fan of Caesar Millan and his "Dog Whisperer" series and other shows...he's done it so long his videos are everywhere. He may be working with trouble dogs but you catch on quick to his philosophy around how to handle dogs, especially multiple dogs. Kayla is more spoiled than Caesar would like, but she's not a problem dog...I'm sick today so she is in bed with me curled up next to me sleeping. She's the sweetest. Last thing...know your breeds. Unlike humans, dogs are born with multiple instincts from their blood lines. Dogs 101 from Animal Planet is good place to start, and you can usually find your breed on Animal Planet's website or on RU-vid. And ask where you are getting your dog from the temperament of the spaniel. We have a playful, yet docile and submissive personality, unless you knock on our door. She wouldn't bite you but she has the bark of an angry Doberman. ;) Then do more reading, and I HIGHLY recommend getting your dog(s) in training...we just did the Petsmart Puppy Kindergarten (there is also a beginning class for dogs past the puppy stage with no training) and then did a few private lessons, and she is the BEST trained dog I have ever had....and I have had well trained dogs my whole life. Kelly Marie Haley I used to have a best friend named Bailey she was a beautiful English Springer Spaniel , unfortunately she passed away at the age of 13 last year on 9/21/14. She's forever in my heart. I might get a new springer pup soon, I am only against it because I don't want to replace sweet Bailey's memories with me.

As they are part of the spaniel family I would make sure mum and dad are clear of fn and pra are the main ones to look out for if you are uk make sure they are on the Kc register they are working dogs so have lots of energy and will love to hunt and retrieve they are hard headed dogs so some say are harder to train but you could put some gun dog training into the dog it will help tier it out and keep it brain and body active. Also they should never leave mum under 8 weeks also if uk by law they must be microchipped before you get the dog there are two types working and show I've always been told unless you want to show go working but they do have more energy. A dog will Lose hair less than a bitch Most working spaniels will be docked make sure you get the paperwork as some will diy it which I not good for the dog And a big no no is don't feed dogs cooked bones or let them carry sticks in there mouth as you don't went them getting hurt when it splinters in there mouth or stomach Hope this helps some
what are there energy levels really like would at least two 40 minute walks be enough and longer walks and swims on the weekends be sufficient. e live in a flat but with a large shared garden baking on to a forest
Mr Witherall It depends on the type and demeanor of the English Springer Spaniel (ESS). We got Kayla from a breeder because we live in an apartment and (1) I needed to know what we were going to get and, (2) we didn't want a dog that was used to a yard and then put her in an apartment. So, we decided against rescue (the way I usually go), and got Kayla from a breeder. First, there are two different kinds of ESS - field and show. Mostly, it has to do with their tail, their coat, and their energy level. Kayla is a show breed (bench), not that we intend to do that and we keep her shaved...can't stand the long coat, but they typically don't have the stamina of the field breed. Second, ask where you are getting the dog their demeanor. When I picked out Kayla from the litter, I was told she was "serious". I didn't know what she meant, but basically she's not super high energy and she's super smart and contemplates things before she acts - she's not impulsive. Personally, Kayla is an apartment dog, she is home with me all day and sleeps most of that time. My husband works 8-5 (I'm disabled and can't take her out right now), so she only gets out to our apartment's dog park twice a day, and we try to find something on weekends for her to blow off a little more steam, but she's happy just like this. When she was a puppy we took her out all the time. Now...very low maintenance, but it depends on the type of ESS, their individual personality, age, and what they are used to. Kayla sleeps most of the time, but it doesn't take much to get her in a playful mood, and all I have to do is grab her leash and her wagging tail and laughing lets me know she's ready to go wherever I'm going. Im getting a 5 weeks old springer spaniel and his name is vinnie, we're getting him on saturday (the one coming up) im worried because i have a cat who really hates dogs, but we got vinnie a puppy crate, nice video :)
