I was destined to get back into a Type R. It wasn't so much a matter of if, but when. Having owned the FK8 already, progressing into the FL5 was the logical choice. I can't wait to explore all the nuances of this all new platform!
This will all calm down eventually. There are only 500 FL5’s currently in the US due to the 10,000 plus orders in Japan. They won’t be rare in a year. Congrats on the new ride. Looking forward to your future FL5 videos.
You are right that the market will definitely cool down. California might be one of the markets where there will always be a market adjustment over MSRP sadly just like it was for the FK8
WELCOME BACK TO THE CIVIC TYPE R COMMUNITY BROTHA!! 🎉 Found your channel back when you had the fk8 and never unsubscribed to your channel! I can’t wait to see all the new content you make with this car! Congrats! 🍾 🤙🏽
Looking forward to you taking this to the track. You have a good amount of experience with the FK8 and would like a true track focused comparison from you. I was interested to see that on the street the fk8 was a bit faster because of the gear ratios but im sure the added rigidity, clearance for larger tires and increased cooling capacity will speak volumes as a track focused car.
Congratulations !!! I love the Type Rs, FK8 and FL5 look amazing. I own a Red Focus RS, C63s and an M2 Competition and would love to get a hold of a type R. looks like a fun car to daily drive with an amazing interior and awesome Honda community.
Hell yeah brother! Glad to have you back with the Type R community. One of the few content creators that I stumbled upon that helped me make the decision to purchase a FK8 last year. Can’t wait to see what you got in store with the FL5. Much love from Hawaii bro 🤙🏽
I love the CTR, so I cannot wait for what’s to come with this in terms of mods and possible track days. What’s more exciting for me is how much room it has to haul the kiddos and how functional it is as a daily!
@@hondaman8648 if you’re only talking about just acceleration then the FK8 from a a roll is quicker. Around lap on a circuit track… FL5 will be quicker
While I agree with you, you’ll never get everyone to agree on the same dollar amount. It will calm down and frankly prices are negotiable if you show to the dealership that you are serious buyer.
It looks fantastic black on black, but the dealerships are just adding crazy markups on these. I don’t know maybe in a few years the prices will come down, but I doubt it.
Congrats on your new car. Man....I can't wrap my head around this market. It's absolutely ridiculous. I remember buying my ITR new 20 years ago for msrp no questions. This platform was always meant to be a an affordable sport trim and the dealers greed binge the last few years is completely reprehensible. As long as people keep paying premiums, they have no reason to stop🤷♂️
Thank you! And yea I agree with you. Even if you take the new car market it off the equation. To get a decently clean, lowing Mike, used S2000 you’ll be paying what it used to sell for at MSRP 20 years ago
Hey, Big Congrats to you on your Brand New FL5 2023 Type R. I bought a car from Nevada years ago and drove back to California. I really enjoyed the drive. Me alone with my new car and the road. Bliss .... 👍
Ordered same color as thinking was it blended with the spoiler, antenna on the roof and side mirrors better than all the other colors. Seeing yours confirms my opinion. Good one. Incidentally even have similar ultra Apple watch as you. Ocean band like yours but in the more under the radar color midnight. There the similarities end For I am almost 70 and you are nowhere close! Enjoy.
Congrats. Great car, great content. Love it in black, suits it well. Hey, now you can even drive with the windows down! And see! Looking forward to seeing this journey unfold.
Michael, Michael, Michael..... You sneaky devil. You are back in the CTR. I'm one of your OG subscribers, I got my FK8 because of your content. (thanks by the way) I'm loving the Supra content. I'm now prepping to get myself in a Supra as well and keeping the FK8. (my bank account is not too happy though). Anyway, totally looking forward to the FL5 content. Keep it up my man!!
Well Michael…This is your number 2 Fan once again…whispering in your ear like Jimminy Cricket. Welcome back to The Type R Fold My Brother!!! Beautiful Ride Man!!! Read through all of the comments and was amazed by the interest in how much you paid…Well…as we both already know…THAT’S between you and the loansharks Bro!😂 I’m sincerely happy for you Man and pray that The Type R Gods will be most kind and forgiving to you on track days…especially in the cooling department! I’m sure that you and Dr. Drew will be triumphant!😁 When I get my Type R back from the body shop…and finally complete my mods…maybe I’ll track you down for a donut and a cup of Joe…so you can stroll down memory lane…minus the overheating rage issues of course!😂
Dealerships definitely are willing to sell out of state, and registration for an out of state car in California requires a DMV visit, and smog. It will cost you $1500 for open transport from the east coast.
Wow congrats on your new Type-R variant!! What a boot space for such type of car and well-balanced exterior and interior! Happy weekend to you and your car☺
You can get it for less than $60k but yeah car market is tough here in CA. I hear that the 2024 will bump up in MSRP closer to $50k. Not sure if that’s true but it if is then paying over right now (within reason of course) may not be too whacky after all.
@@GridZilla They can't just add $6k msrp for the same model today, it'll definitely be a refresh model with probably the best of the best since it'll be Hondas last gas type r
That’s what I ran into too brother. I just bought a brand new 2021 VW Jetta GLI Autobahn 7 months back. Wanted a brand new 2022 but they were NO WHERE to be had. I was running into the same thing, I was willing to drive 500 miles to get it and no one would sell me one, nor order one because no dealers could get stock. I ended up calling a VW dealer in Atlanta, and they agreed to sell it to me at MSRP since I was driving so far to get it and because it was last years model. But man I called dealers all the way around me up to 500 miles away and no one would even try to speak to me about a sale out of state. They had a guaranteed sale and they flat out refused. Autotrader was my best friend. For you folks out there trying to buy a car right now. Use auto trader, it works at getting to the information you’ll need to talk these dealers down. It’s rough out there right now in the car market
I don’t really talk about what I pay for anything on my channel. Main reason being that whether it’s for parts or the car itself, prices change and the deal that you might work out will likely be different than mine so it’s all kind of moot.
The FL5 is GREAT value at msrp or barely over ($5k max) Not $10k-15k+ over. But that's just how the market is. Either have to take the dive or risk missing out.. thing is, if everybody stood their ground, they would have to adjust it... fomo will do that
I don’t disagree with you but you’ll never get everyone to agree to hold out. It’s more than just the new car price. Even used 2021 FK8’s are selling for $10k-$13k over what their new MSRP was with 20k miles on them. Of course this is region specific but I’m sure you understand my point. No Dealership in their right mind will get anywhere closer to MSRP until at least the used car market is WELL below MSRP from new. Great if you can wait… The product cycle for the FL5 might be done by the time you see MSRP (depending on where you live). I just don’t see it happening in places like CA
Man I said it on the forum and I’ll say it here again. In Canada we don’t get black and I love my FL5 in CW but I’d take it in black if I had a choice. It looks so menacing!
Would like to see comparisons from your FK8, pros and cons of the FL5. I still have my FK8(19) and is FBO, tuned. I'm considering on getting an FL5..but my FK8 is "perfection."
New subscriber here! Congratulations on the new FL5! I'm looking forward to more CTR contents. I recently bought an FL5 as well here in Vegas. Love driving every minute of it. 🤙🏽
Congrats, Broheim! Couldn't get into the looks of the FK8, Sleeper looks have always been better. Assuming both stock, the CTR can circle Nurburgring faster than the BMWupra.
Stock for stock Id say the FK8 and FL5 are better track cars than the Supra but once you get past $10k-$15k in mods the Supra pulls ahead and has a much higher potential ceiling.
@@GridZilla I concur, the point of diminishing returns for any FWD car is just inherently lower sadly. Which is why it's funny when you see someone blow big money to pump their Mazda3/Civic/Sentra to like 500+bhp.
This makes me feel good about my boost blue CTR that just barely hit 10k miles. FL5 is cool and i thought about it, but i think its smart to just keep my lovely fk8 and i'm totally happy with it.
Yeah, going back to an FK8 wayyyy over MSRP used is definitely not the move. Good call there. If did not have an FK8 I would be fully focused on getting an FL5. I don't think this one will overheat as bad. That is such a buzzkill. Anyway, see you around! Maybe we'll meet at a socal vs norcal Type R again.
You are lucky man. I am from Canada and I have been waiting for over 18 months as well with a manager in one of the biggest dealership. Now they said they gonna give it to those “VVIP” first, also trying to turn it to a used car so to mark it up…
happy to see you back in a type R! you're were the best type R content out there and I was a bit salty you left let alone to a Zupra like everyone else.
So you talked about all these different prices but you didn't say exactly what you paid we want to know exactly how much you paid tho just curious? I overpaid on mine but I love it.. 21 paid 47k
I don’t really talk about what I pay for anything on my channel. Main reason being that whether it’s for parts or the car itself, prices change and the deal that you might work out will likely be different than mine so it’s all kind of moot.
Enjoy the ride bro. You're like me, I still love my hondas both cd5 and dc3. Meanwhile I am currently loving my A91. Look like you also have one yellow in the background.
I find it weird that the old one is actually faster in a rolling race though, thanks to throttle house review of it. Personally probably gonna pass on this type r even though it looks better than the previous gen imo. I just wish they made it all wheel drive this time around. Golf r definitely ahead of its time when it comes to that with drift mode too.
Really depends on what you’re looking to get out of the car. If Roll Racing is what you’re into then any Type R is a terrible choice. Supra is king for roll racing.
@@GridZilla Definitely agreed, I was hoping it was gonna be faster than the old gen in all aspects since it's at 40k margin now. Still definitely has the best manual in it's class for sure!
I would’ve put bath towels down on all the seats if it were me and also on the carpet you need to get yourself some weather tech floor mats otherwise that red is going to stain with every touch of a shoe
Congrats on the car!!! I myself just am not in a financial position to pay markups of 10-25k over MSRP. Call me broke, but at that point we’re talking entry level used Corvette, Supra, and even GT350. But hey if you got the money 💪🏼 do with it what ya please! You earned it not me!
I don’t really talk about what I pay for anything on my channel. Main reason being that whether it’s for parts or the car itself, prices change and the deal that you might work out will likely be different than mine so it’s all kind of moot.
Congrats on the R! People shouldn't freak out too much about these cars being bought by strangers with a $20-30K markup. The dealerships are the ONLY people benefiting from this and there will always be someone willing to pay crazy prices so it won't change. The R won't hold its value at this level. Especially as production increases and other options hit the market (i.e Type S). For those that want one and either don't have a ton of loose change floating around or don't want to take out a bonkers loan at high rates and an impending depreciation cliff, just be patient. Until then, enjoy the content!
@@GridZilla timid people do exist, but it’s highly unlikely that someone who is unwilling or unable to pay a $20k+ markup is actually paying a large sum solely because they don’t want to negotiate. They made the decision to purchase at the higher price before calling/visiting because even if they were scared to negotiate there is always the option to walk away.
I'm not sure why more US citizens ,don't buy in Canada? Our dollar is right off the top 25% less and a lot of honda dealers are selling at MSRP or 3K over which to me is a bargain! Same exact car but 25-30% cheaper.
It’s a massive headache transporting cars across state let alone from a different country. Different emission laws, registration challenges, shipping costs etc etc etc. Odometer may have to be changed as well if it only reads KPH.
Make sure you bring that same energy when cars that you can buy today for several thousands of dollars under MSRP are only selling for MSRP because you want to buy directly from the manufacturer. Dealerships going away would be the worst thing to happen to consumers. You just have to get better at negotiating
ive seen 10k markups on the type r!? how much markup was on this car when you bought it? hopefully no more 2nd gear grind/4th gear lockout and the over heating issues!
While I agree with you, you’ll never get everyone to agree on the same dollar amount. It will calm down and frankly prices are negotiable if you show to the dealership that you are serious buyer.
I mean… everything has a markup now. Even Golf R or GTI, civic SI and used FK8. I chose black for mine a year ago because it hide some busy look on FK8. I would like to see appreciation of type R rather than depreciation as an owner you know.. lol anyways.. i love FL5. To me, all type R are good car. FK2, FK8, FL5 i will buy any of it if i can afford. Sometimes, someone’s wife is prettier than mine. I educated “ don’t covet”
I live in Vancouver , here its already ALL SOLD OUT, I called all the honda dealer around B.C . I PAYED 10000+5000 CAD ABOVE MSRP, one of the dealer finally agree to save one for me... mine its gray color. The craziest thing is , lots of others payed $5000-10000 down payment beg dealers put their name on the waiting list, their down payment to dealer just wait the next year or 2-4 years later Type r, each dealer have at least 3-7 these people, and the dealer can't even 100% for sure will get their car, you can imagine how crazy this is just for a honda car. I have no idea why Honda doing this to us, just ship more car in NA how hard that is
@@mvtwf huh? What’s passive aggressive? I don’t like discussing money on any of my videos. You can scroll through every single one of them. I don’t mention pricing on anything. I’m sure someone out there probably paid MSRP for their FL5. Doesn’t matter to me because that’s not likely what most people will pay. So I’ll say it again. Why does it matter? If you want one, try to find the best deal you can and decide on whether it’s worth it to you or not. Simple
@@GridZilla It does matter. Sharing things like this for other enthusiast only empowers everyone else with more information than no information. Can you imagine if everyone never shared what they paid for anything especially things like repair costs for shops etc? People wouldn't know they were getting ripped off etc. Information like this helps the community in a positive way. If you shared what you paid, it would help the community rather than hurt...Not discussing money in any videos yes is your choice but the reasoning why you aren't sharing doesn't make sense, that it doesn't matter...It does though in a significant way just like the example I shared earlier.
I work for a Honda Dealership in Ohio. I’m wondering why they did not do a proper delivery? We sit with our clients and demonstrate all of the functions, such as Apple Car Play, etc. looks like they just tossed you the keys and said good luck…. 😂
@@g.dubyou6263 I saw that post. That resource link is actually how I found my CBP in SoCal. More cars are coming but keep in mind, the 186 cars at the port on the East Coast are all likely for the East Coast that haven’t gotten any cars yet. I know a few people that work at Honda dealerships. Word is that the first batch came in and that all we’ve got until next year. Maybe late January of February. Maybe 1-2 will trickle in at a couple of dealerships that did t get one yet but that’s it. The vast majority of the cars being built are going to stay in Japan first to fulfill the 10,000+ orders for the FL5.
