One of Scorsese’s most underrated masterpieces.

Its really small and intimate, I liked it a lot, it's as if scorsese decided to make an "early scorsese" :D

When someone requested this, that was the first time I saw it. I hadn't heard much about it. Really good movie. The story is very Schrader.

I work as a paramedic in a major US city. This might be one of the most relatable films among my coworkers. So much so is that we meme it and refer back to it regularly. I think the “I haven’t saved anyone in awhile” just makes this movie relatable to the rest of the world. Don’t get me wrong, we still care about people and want to do our job well. But in reality, Nic Cage’s character is like this because of the amount of death, sadness, and insane situations he is in every single day. That’s what makes the burnout in EMS less than a few years. It all starts to blend together and saving peoples lives starts to not even be on your mind anymore. You just think about how you can make it to the end of your shift. Every minute closer is a minute away from stress and sadness. And why all EMS loves this film. Also the more you see, the more you get put into a cycle of being less and less relatable to other people around you, which breeds these crazy personalities you see here. I want you all to ask someone who has been in EMS longer than 5 years about if they have every had a period of time like this movie, and I almost guarantee they have. All that being said, 6 years in and I still wouldn’t trade my job for anything. Thanks for making this video, you just gained a subscriber!

Just three years in myself in a rural setting. I look to this film often to bring some kind of weird grounding. I do have to say that I don't think they could have cast this film better, and it should be a must watch for all EMTB courses.

I’ll double down on other commenter’s assertion that this is an under appreciated masterpiece; it is also one of my favorite films of all time. Thank you for devoting a video to it, and thank you for examining it through the lens of my favorite branch of philosophy.

People hated this movie at the outset, but I loved it. Nicolas Cage was surprisingly good which makes this a hidden gem.
@scifinerd17
@scifinerd17 6 лет назад
UncleAnaesthesia People always think Nicholas Cage’s movies are bad because he’s a bad actor, but that’s not true. He’s a good actor who so happens to star in badly written, badly directed films because of his financial problems, he just stars in them to pick up a check. He’s starred in good movies before and has given good performances in them and is a capable actor, he won an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas and was nominated a second time for Adaptation.

Nicholas Cage is what makes bad movies memorable though. Can you really call him a bad actor if he manages to do that?

watching this is painfull I have to admit that the "acting in bad faith" part could be aplicable to how i react to some aspect's of my life and i really dont want to.....

I remember from Philosophy in highschool learning about Sartre but I took an instant dislike to him due to the "You shouldn't ask people for advice because you've always already made a decision." it made me mad because it invalidated the worth of other peoples opinions and experiences. Asking someone for advise at a difficult time may not always help but every person has a different lived experience. Talking to other people and learning about their points of view and values is massively important to seeing things in a larger world view and can lead you to consider things you may never have thought of all on your own. That's not living in bad faith, that growth.

How coincidental! I'd just been musing over my own inauthentic life and how I let the fear of responsibility paralyze me. Why did I think a philosophical run-down of Bringing Out The Dead would distract me from that? I suppose I should just be thankful the film hasn't gone down the memory hole. Good stuff, sir, good stuff!

If you're into refining French pronunciation, Simone would be pronounced see-moan with a long "e" sound by American phonetic description and not a short 'i". Pretty much all i's in French make a long "e" sound.

This makes me think of the philosophy of free will in the Christian faith as discussed in Dante's Inferno. At first, Dante pities all the people in hell, but when he realizes what horrible people they still are, he comes to the right conclusion that these people chose hell for themselves and were being rightly punished.
