During our collaborative family history event with Heritage Open Days, Mary McKee of Findmypast took attendees through the journey of the 1921 Census of England and Wales, and how it was brought online.
The largest conservation and digitisation project ever undertaken by Findmypast and The National Archives, the 1921 Census is the most extensive British Census opened to the public. It took Findmypast and partners (The National Archives and the Office for National Statistics) three years of work to bring it online, involving the conservation of 38 million records, and then scanning, digitising and transcribing. Now, the 1921 Census reveals where your relatives where, what they were and who they were doing it with one summer night a century ago.
