old school had radio install brings back so many memories ! They do make wiring harnesses now to plug in the factory wiring harness.

Yea I did the same thing cutting into the factory harness my first time. I eventually found out about the $10 adapter harness for your vehicel you can get that plugs into your truck side plug so you just sit at the bench and connect the 2 harnesses together and then you plug both sides in and slide the stereo in. I also did the same touch screen install on my same f350, I used a dremel and shaved it just right and it worked pretty well but super messy. I took the dash out and did it in the garage.

Iuse Crutchfield whenever I do home or vehicle upgrades what’s great about the head units from them is they also provide a plug-in adapter that plugs into the harness pulls the power where needed and access to the cam bus etc. and there’s only a few wires you have displays which are identified in the vehicle specific instructions that you bought the head unit for I highly recommend it and I am not associated with them I have been using them for 20 years because of the support and the per vehicle research they do. They also have vehicle specific adapters that you can get reasonably cheap that will trim out the radio for your dash and any specific bracketry you need

Should have used Crutchfield. Step by step directions with photos included and often they will give you all of the necessary adapters to simply plug the head unit into the existing vehicle wiring. Crutchfield would have told you that that head unit was not a direct fit.

If you haven't picked one up, a multi-tool style oscillating cutter would have been perfect for removing that trim remnant. Like the channel.

Jerky Recipe for our family from I think about 1679 is what I use for jerky; no ground meats and salt boiled with peppers and/ or spices. Then boiled 3-4 minutes and then smoked 3-4 days with scrub oak here in southern Oregon, USA. Dried to near zero and heated in jars to about 150 Deg and sealed in; shelf life is over 40 years if kept dry.

i always order my units from Crutchfield, they always include all needed adapters/accessories/trim pieces/WIRING HARNESSES with your order.

Those cams are so convenient especially if you have a high pick up and your backing up to a low trailer. Normally you can't even see it or you have to attach vertical poles on the trailer that stick up about 6 feet. Nice !

You need to take the radio bezel out and mount the headunit using the mounting brackets from a kit.

Fill the gaps with felt weatherstripping. Or foam camper top weatherstripping tape.

Lol I used a dremel tool on the special double din dash for my 01 ram , 7 inch radio with Bluetooth and hands free was 7 1/16 inch and the hole that was suppose to be 7 inch was 6 5/8 inch , so fun modifications

The Metra 95-5817 Dash Kit is ~$12 on Amazon and adapts the Ford clips to a double DIN radio and will take up the weird gaps.

Should have gone with Crutchfield. They would have given you free install accessories (adapter harness, trim plate etc) and a set of complete wiring instructions. Would have let you keep the original radio harness so you could reinstall the old radio if you sold the truck.

If you drop the steering column bottom cover and clip the ground wire going to the key cyclinder you can leave your key in with no more annoying dinger! I've done it on 4 super dutys of your vintage. So much nicer when you're in and out of the truck a lot or just want to leave your door open....

What to use on the sides of your radio to fill in the gap is foam weather striping, like the kind you put along the edge of a pick up shell I have use this for years and it will help to hold it in place and keep dust and junk from getting behind the radio.... from the Macguy

The way your doing it is the way most of us do it are selfers do it. With what we have to work with.

Your the only guy I know that still uses those folding utilitie knives. Everybody got them when they first came out and went back to the old style within a month. When they broke or lost then when they didn't fit in there tool belts

A Dremmel tool works good for cutting plastic if you don't have one get one I don't use it a lot but they do come in handy. The blue tooth is good for entertainment but a head set is a better choice for phone conversation

If you connect the anode of a Schottky diode to your marker/running light wire and the anode of another to your reverse light wire, then connect the two cathodes to the camera's power supply it will have power as it does now but also when reversing without your lights on. A bead of black silicone sealant might also work to fill the gaps around the bezel.

Nice upgrade! My daily driver for the last 2-1/2 years has an AM only radio. Oh, and it doesn't work... That camera would be nice for solo trailer hookup.

Just like many others said, Crutchfield is great for making the installs easy. I did a Kenwood head unit very similar to yours on my 2011 F250 and 2014 F150. Got the units and the install kits from Crutchfield and it was smooth. The reverse wire isn't a power wire, its an trigger wire for the cam. You can still hit the cam button anytime to check back behind you, but the reverse wire just makes it comes on automatically. (I'm sure you already figured this out.) Good head unit though...menus are a little cumbersome, but works good and reasonably priced.

First rule of linemans pliers or electrician pliers or is when the rubber on the handles gets a hole in it throw them away. It's cheap insurance to keep from getting a shock or worse

...and this is how it begins. Next, you'll want some slightly heavier bass, so you can hear it over the diesel roar, but you'll need a small amp to power it, but instead of a mono amp, why not just go with a multi-output 500 watt and some new 6x9's for the doors? Also, that stereo is fine, but it's, like, one day old. You should upgrade that to a McIntosh headunit. You may have to sell some equipment to afford it, but that's OK:)

There is no such thing as TO MUCH THROTTLE, throttle is your friend. My step dad called the paperwork that comes along with stuff is called DESTRUCTIONS and they take all the adventure out of it.

I need to do the same, radios haven't worked for a few years in the main rigs, although I don't thing the bluetooth speaker on the dash is the right way to get bluetooth compatible it has worked

For your camera you can connect to the Trailer Power Wire in the hitch harness to have power all the time to the camera wire the truck key is turned on

I have a 2003 F250 with the last of the legendary 7.3L in it, I bought it about 4 years ago with 84K original Texas miles on it and now it has about 120k. When I got it I had the windows tented, had an alarm put on it and installed a touch screen radio with a back up camera.

Nice work with the file and the Sawzall. Good clean work truck installation, but i gotta say I've seen Andrew Camarata clearance his dash with a chain saw, and I really liked that video. FYI, you can get a plug and play wire harness at Walmart or the auto parts for like $20 (next to the Ford radio keys) and everything is labeled. They make things a lot easier.

They have a plug at Walmart for your trucks plug and you wire othe end to your stereo.LOL....Great Video Bud. That way you dont have to cut your truck plug out

Nice job. FYI. Crutchfield is a great source for electronics. Outstanding selection and pricing and their tech support is superb. They likely will have the trim ring you're looking for to fill in the gap around the head unit.

Split a small piece of vacuum hose and that would make a grommet for that use a little silicone in our RTVTo glue it in place

I put a Pioneer in my 2007 GMC 3500 with all the features and it was like getting a new vehicle. So much functionality.

i usually buy all car audio through sonic, easy to select your vehicle for fitment, that i also get the harness and antenna adapters, i also solder the harness adapter to the head unit harness plug and shrink wrap///all done very quickly......the harness adapters are cheap and save lots of time...btw some cars need installation kits...all worth the extra $$ and saves hacking and time.

Best bang for your buck upgrade for 6.0 Ford owners it to park the pickup next to the nearest dumpster on trash day and walk home lol 😂
