It appears that New Mexico doesn’t want campers. Last year we went to a state campground where we were informed that we needed to reserve a spot online. When we attempted to reserve a site in the empty campground, we were told that all sites were reserved. There was nobody there, but all sites were taken. Will avoid this state in the future.
@ScubaSteveCanada
@ScubaSteveCanada 17 дней назад
That's an ongoing issue in both the U.S. and Canada. People reserve them on dates they aren't even sure they can/want to use them resulting in empty campgrounds that are "full." There needs to be a 24 hour "no show" policy. If you haven't checked in within 24 hours of the first date on the reservation, you lose it and it's back on the menu. With a cancellation fee charged too.
@billbillinger2491
@billbillinger2491 16 дней назад
@@ScubaSteveCanadaMy guess is they don't care if the spaces are actually occupied or not, so long as they are still collecting fees from the reservation. If anything, they'd be happier if the space stays unfilled...less maintenance; upkeep; trash; etc.

I thought the whole concept of the Park system (National, State, County, City) was to be equally accessible to all citizens of this country? They are all subsidized by tax dollars after all. These high prices prevent low income people/families from enjoying the parks that their taxes help fund. I'm still having a hard time accepting paying a day use fee on top of the camping fees. I remember when this wasn't the case.

I can't fathom what gives some people the idea that extreme heat can't hurt them. It doesn't matter how fit you are, or how tolerant you think you are, our bodies are not designed for that kind of weather. The result being another removed from the gene pool. Because people asked elsewhere, helicopters generate their lift from the spinning rotor blades. When the air is as hot as it is, it's not as dense, and the blades can't generate the lift because they weren't designed for that kind of air density. Death Valley may be below sea level, but with the air that hot, the helicopter thinks it's high altitude. It's all about the physics.

As for price increases, there may come a day when people choose not to camp anymore because it costs too much money...the cost of owning a rig, gas, storage, insurance, escalating camp fees, all adds up $$$$. It costs less to take a cruise or take a trip to Europe.

All states are going to have to increase state park prices and change their ways of doing business to discourage these homeless encampments. It's even become a problem in my home state of Oklahoma. Plus, too many people have become "full timers" because they are looking to live in the USA for free. Hate to break it to you people, but that's not a thing. City and state taxes pay for a lot of the "free campsites" in these states. The local worker who is putting in 40-50hrs per week at their job isn't exactly interested in people coming from out of state to live for free at a city or state park or camp in their RV on a street that their tax dollars are funding. And when people say "yeah but these RVers are spending so much money in the community". No they're not. If they're constantly looking for free parking, then they're probably pretty frugal. That doesn't help the community. The United States of America can't continue, yes CONTINUE, to be the greatest country in the world if everyone is quitting their jobs to become full time RVers who live for free. This country was built by workers and needs MORE WORKERS, not more nomads!

Run by executives and managers that came from other low end manufacturers, built by the same labor force as all the rest, and major components, including the frame, supplied by LCI (Lippert). They’re just the latest buzzword like Grand Design and Alliance that will flame out as the truth about their quality bubbles to the top, the recall being the first example.

@jordancook1668 18 дней назад
Rate increases for state parks are appropriate. It makes no sense to only charge 33 bucks for a full hookup site anywhere, let alone in a beautiful place. The demand for these sites at that price is essentially infinite. Literally, it can be taken as mathematically infinite, there is essentially no limiting factor. The only way to curb that is with rate increases. Already in the comments you see people saying they’ll boondock more or go other places…sounds like it’s already working as planned. I can tell you as a PNW resident that getting these sites is more difficult than most could possibly imagine, they book in seconds. I see no downside to fewer nights spent in them, and people considering alternatives. I also see it as a way of decreasing the temptation to book more sites than people have intention of occupying. You don’t see this with commercial campgrounds because they are market-priced. Very few things in life are affordable, so why should camping be? If some sites are in lower demand, price them accordingly and people on tighter budgets can go there.
