Nice, I really need to get a new coal basket method. I have the CharBroil version of this and the only mod I’ve done is to drill 6 holes in the bottom of the bowl and then put some mesh in the bottom of the basket to raise the coal floor a bit. These units are terribly built from the factory but you’ve done a great job bringing it up to par. I’ve gotten great results out of mine but it definitely requires babysitting, which I don’t like. And whoever thought to not include vents in a smoker is daft!! I’m getting a PBC soon so this is just my practice smoker for now. Thanks for the video!
Good ideas that I'm going to try on my old one. I just bought the last 3 at my local Kmart. I could literally walk around my job site and find the materials! Thanks bro
Nice mods dude. I like the 3/4 inch piping you put in. I think you can cut slices on the end with threaded part so you can control more airflow as you screw the cap on & off.
Good idea on the can to add water to the pan...that's always been an issue for me. I'm in the process of showing my mod of this smoker to propane using ceramic stones and a smoker box. Thanks ,good video.
Nice. Your basket design for the coals is excellent. I don't think I understand the pipe extensions and then putting those caps on ? Doesn't capping the holes just block the air flow and isn't air flow the whole reason for the making the holes ?
Hey, Siedman. Yes, the holes provide air to the coals. Once you get the desired temperature, though, you have to limit the air so that the temp does not keep going up.
This was my first smoker. It was fun figuring out how to fix issues and working on it, and I still use it. I have built a UDS and bought an offset since.
Thanks, guy! I still have it and still use it, despite having added a UDS and a OJ Bronco to the repertoire. I've made a few small changes to it since, but overall it's still rocking as you see it in this video!
