It almost defies belief that when Daniher kicked the last goal of the game he was alone in the goal square with six Richmond players around him and still somehow managed to bounce the ball through without it being touched. And with the ball being touched off the boot beforehand meaning Richmond couldn't take a defensive mark and end it right there as well. Just incredible.
People say that. Sure it should've been marked or spoiled. However, what's truly the real thing also is that it was embarrassing that daniher wasn't in that marking contest. If that ball had gone through or Been marked it would've been a disgrace that he sagged off that contest and did nothing
Such a fun game to watch as a supporter of neither side, must have been torture for Lions and Tigers fans. Credit to both coaches for sending their teams out playing such an attacking game style.
If your a brisbane fans I don’t think you will after the semi finals because you know Melbourne deliberately are going lose to swans to smash brisbane lol
A whopping seventeen lead changes in one of the most epic Finals matches you'll ever witness. Both of these teams gave it their all at the Woolloongabba (Gabba for short). All square at Quarter Time, Richmond led by six points at Half Time and by five points at Three-Quarter Time and a see-sawing Final Quarter saw both teams taking their respective scores to triple figures. In the end, Joe Daniher eliminated Richmond from the 2022 Finals Series. It started with eight teams looking for a happy ending to their Finals stories. Congratulations to the Brisbane Lions for getting an extra chapter to keep the story going. For the Richmond Tigers though, it's the end. Brisbane will await the loser of the Melbourne versus Sydney Qualifying Final. On Saturday Night, another team's Finals story will have a sad ending. Find out next time on Dragonball Z. I mean the AFL.
Events moved too quickly for this to be DBZ, if it was there would be people just standing there stunned watching going "aahh ah ah" with those anime eyes
Amazing L lions. Never gave up always fought back always taking the lead away from Richmond and then winning so closely truly great game and amazing performances from both sides
As someone who was there I can confirm that this is indeed the greatest game of football ever played and also that it was indeed way louder there than on broadcasting. Gabba was electric. Deaf by the end.
I was there too. no way the greatest game ever. The skills were quiet sloppy. It was a shootout. Generally shootouts are low skill which creates a game with a lot of turnovers with poor poor defending. One thing about tonight tho the goal kicking was impeccable. But defence and system and zoning is what wins flags I think the sentence ur looking for is “most entertaining final In a while”
What a game! Tight for th whole night, it was action packed, great plays, tackles, and a thrilling last few minutes. It was high scoring as well to top it off
I was at that game and as a lins supporter it was the greatest thing ever. Trust me when i say this, but it was much louder at the game than on broadcasting. There were 35000+ people out of a maximum capacity of 42000 people. It was madness!
The commentators on ABC radio were calling this the 'Game from Heaven' and I whole-heartedly agree with that label. This match WAS the Game from Heaven
THAT WAS THRILLING. Non stop action, forward footy, huge scoring, flushing goals. Neither side could miss a kick! It was one of the best games this year, if not the best. Great advertisement for the game. One of the best finals you'll see. I couldn't keep my eyes off the screen. The game didn't stop!! Both teams brought it! Exceptional from Brisbane, given their recent poor performances and players missing.
The Lions and Tigers have set the bar high as far as the match standard is concerned. That will be a hard act to follow for the rest of the finals teams.
McCluggage, Starcevich, Berry & Bailey are genuine weapons with there best still ahead. Add Rayner into that, with Hipwoods progression, Payne finally looking solid. Brisbane are who Im rooting for as a Carlton fan. Would be nice for Rich & Robbo. (if Robbo didnt get dropped)
Even though the footage has no depth you can still get a good sense of the ball's trajectory. To me that was never a goal, ball had too much power and not enough curl. Would have been more controvertial if it stayed a goal.
@@danielbetts3327 Can you send the link to the footage or something coz theres footage from the crowd and its still hard to tell but I still stand by the fact that its a goal
the umpire was defs in the way for cotchins goal. don't know if it could have been touched but at least give the players a shot mate. lions player had every right to have a word to him
Don’t blame him when you have a flog in your forward line who misses set shots. And worst of all have a 3 on 1 in your defensive half that results in a goal
Why’d y’all wait till the end of the season to start releasing highlights on the same day let along within a couple hours of the game finishing While thank you for at least doing it, why the sudden change?
Always loved hearing BT and Richo complain about Lynch's shot being inconclusive. The blokes up in the ARC have all the different angles playing concurrently and that's how they determine the flight of the ball. When 3 differing angles have the ball floating over the post at the same time then it's safe to assume it went over the post.
The Lions army of supporters got a taste of what it is like to be in the Collingwood army (Heart stress), whilst the Richmond army got a taste of what it is like to be in the Carlton army. lol
I had quiz night last night so could only watch the first 15 minutes. I said to dad as we were leaving "guarantee this is going to be a banger". Half way through quiz night my step mum tells us the final score. Dad says "well at least you got something right tonight". Edit - Oh and carn you mighty Cats.
Richmond deserved this game! Very unlucky. Richmond would have won by 9 points if lynch kicked the goal..😱.😭Richmond have been unlucky all year..Richmond are better than this..Go Tigers 🐅
Unlucky guys, I was very upset about the result but unfortunately we can't always win. Hopefully we can improve on this in 2023. Oh well, GG lions you were a bit too strong for us tonight and got home in the end and all the best for the rest of the finals series
I am a former umpire who did over 300 games as a field boundary and goal umpire . The decision by the video ref was infact the correct decision . It the ball goes through the goal above the posts and any part of the ball goes over the post , then that is registered as a point , because it is ruled as hitting the goal post
That is obviously the rule. The problem was that the goal umpire who was directly under the ball as it went through nominated it as a goal. It was referred upstairs by the field umpire most probably due to Lynch's reaction. The technology to determine the validity of the goal umpires decision was non existent or indecisive. The rule on referral is if the technology does not definitively show the umpire has made an incorrect call then the umpires call stands.
Great game which could have went either way . Dusty probably should have stayed back at the strip club. Lachie Neale had so much of the ball you'd think the Lions were playing a few players short. Go Lions !!
Rhys H more like you are still rent free about Richmond. Both sides had bad decisions going both ways. If Richmond won this game instead the lions fans would not be a whole lot different about complaining the umpires.
@@blahblah6227 There were a few free kicks that should've been paid to Brisbane but weren't. A holding the ball and a high tackle. Also the Brisbane player marked the ball directly in front of goal and it was overturned as a Richmond free kick. Also that wasn't a goal by Tom Lynch, it went over the post, which is 1 point and even Tom Lynch knew it himself.
@@TigerTime3672 I'm not saying that there weren't some dubious decisions that favoured Brisbane. I'm just saying that there were a few decisions that favoured Richmond in the last quarter......bad decisions! But unfortunately the Richmond fans are just too one-eyed to see them
@@rhysh2639 I have seen bad decisions payed to the lions in the first half to be fair and they were equally as bad as the calls Richmond got. I think every fanbase would probably be one eyed when it comes to umpiring at times especially in a final and in tight conditions though tbh.
Some sketchy umpiring from earlier on in the game, well slightly but yeah just under pressure youll make mistakes sometimes. And we did but well deserved by the Lions, they had a reasonable run as well. Hopefully we're both up there again like the finals rivalry we have, even if we're 1 for 3. But yeah we have done well Im not gonna gloat too much, but done well overall aha. Sorry had a long day so yeah just had to put that in about us, havent been this passionate for a while
When reviewing a score, why don't they ever watch it at normal speed? They go straight to blurry frame-by-frame backwards and forwards stuff and expect to get the right result. Watching it again as it happened,at normal speed, the kick was clearly a behind and it was easy to see, and Richmond players knew it.
I agree, I think it's because they rely on frame-by-frame to remove as much guesswork as possible. Anyone that has good spatial reasoning can take into account the camera perspective and the movement of the ball on the screen and conclude it didn't curl in in time. It's just hard to explain objectively.
The sad thing for Richmond is that if Lynch had acted as though the goal went through, the review may have been different. Inconclusive review IMO anyway and should have been the goal umpire's call. Great game.
@@MangoVisionn exactly, the only one who thought it was a goal was the goal umpire. Perfect use of the review system as without it, the wrong team would have won.
No expert but pretty sure if two camera angles show the ball directly above the post, that is effectively a coordinate, meaning the ball was directly above the post. It's a point hardwick.
If the goal umpire has no idea, as it was in this case, why do they need to make a call? Send it to the video umpire stating they have no clue and let them decide without influence one way or another.
The game wasn’t really great the last 22 seconds they didn’t give it a ball up or holding the ball it’s stupid but good try tigers you did very good and same to Brisbane this game was intense.
Not sure how you can say it wasn't a great game but also say it was intense. As a neutral fan, the intensity was what made it such a great game until the last second either team deserved to win this game. But I assume you mean as in the standard at which Melbourne play either team will need to improve. Take away the quality and just pure entertainment will definitely be one of the best final's game played in the 20's.
@@jacobholzheimer6267 I would argue this is certainly the game of the year. Last year's semi-final at the Gabba against the Bulldogs was equally as epic. Between those two games, I really can't split them. Both brilliant contests until the very end.
