A Brisbane Uber driver said he feared for his life when a teenage girl allegedly attacked him with a machete at Bridgeman Downs, north of Brisbane. Police said the 17-year-old girl got into his car just after midnight (AEST) this morning, and allegedly pulled out the knife when the driver realised she wasn't the passenger he was supposed to be collecting.
Driver Jae Park, 37, told 9NEWS he thought he was going to die when the girl allegedly attacked him. "Suddenly she pulled out her knife, she hit my head," he said. The girl then wrestled with the car's controls, Mr Park said, but he managed to restrain her.
Neighbours ran to help Mr Park, and one described seeing "blood everywhere." Police arrived to find the pair near the car, and later found the weapon allegedly used in the attack not far from the scene. Mr Park was taken the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and treated for a cut to the head.
He told 9NEWS the attack had led him to re-think working for the ride-sharing company. The girl accused of the attack has been charged with attempted robbery with violence, and assault occasioning bodily harm.
