I remember this game. Our aussies went to a pub the night before. This is normal for us back then. How times have changed. These young people take their job more seriously than we did. FFS, in cricket during the ashes 1 year, poms were killing us and Andrew Symonds missed a team meeting and was sacked and sent home. He decided to go fishing on a charter to catch English fish instead of being told off for losing against the better team.. Thats so Gold coast. And we weren't alone in that pub. The English liked a drink too.
In 97 Wigan hit their lowest point of the 90s. They had completely lost their way from the days of being the English super club. They still had a few good players but the rest of the team were very poor and coached by Eric Hughes who i dont think had ever held a first team coaching position before. In 98 Wigan brought back John Monie as coach who got rid of a lot of the players in this team and brought in 5 new players and they topped the table, won the grand final and only lost 2 league games that year to Leeds who they then beat in the grand final
Andy Johnson makes me laugh on this. When O'Connor and Tallis are fighting, he pushes Tallis but then stops what he's doing as soon as he sees Wendell Sailor coming at him! Haha
O'Connor took the best Tallis had and didn't flinch. He then put a couple of upper cuts right on the mark. At best honours even, Tallis looked worse for it afterwards.
