I seem to have child memories of sitting on the rear seats and getting off stinking of diesel fumes, also loved sitting on the seats over the rear arches facing other passengers!! PS journeys around Bristol as I'm a Bristolian.
I used to drive Leyland Atlanteans and Leopards with the 680 engine and Daimler Fleetlines with the Gardner engine. The Leopards with the 680 were so economical and reliable vehicles, better than modern rubbish. I have never driven a VR though.
distinctly different sound from an idling 6LXB gardner. Most leyland engines sound hesitant on closed throttle the gardner is much smoother at low rev.
What hell are you doing in the parking?! It is lucky enough cause too closing by fall into canal pond there is... Should get moving going to place to go... What a surprise about this happen to that bus for heck is!! 😨
Odd things went on due to “engine supply shortages”. I recall Crosville having O.510 and 6LXC engines fitted to similarly aged VRs. The O.680 made this sound like an Atlantean though.
@@richardwalker_ used to like how each engine had its own sound, something you don't get on the newer stuff. Me and a mate were quite into buses as teenagers, suppose we kind of knew this era of buses like the vr,fleetline,re,national, leopard, tiger etc were for us the golden years of bus travel.
@@richardwalker_ I’ve just watched a video on here of a 1980 VR with a 680 engine and they claim only 2 are known to survive… Until that time, I never knew that some operators had specified 510 Leyland engines
