Funerals normally take place in a church/funeral home, then you go out to the gravesite to pay your respects.

In WV most have a quick graveside service too. 5-10 minutes. But, the funeral is usually at the funeral home.

@@timl8302 The wake or visitation is usually at the funeral home (mortuary) several days before the funeral and is very informal with family and friends viewing the body and talking about their memories of the deceased and may include a light meal. The funeral is at a church or chapel followed by the grave site service, or burial, when the casket is placed in the ground. Recently more families are just doing a memorial service which may be weeks or months after the death with no casket etc.

@@mtwomn8940 Not in WV. In WV, the wake is either The night before the funeral or the 2 hours before the funeral. Then there is a funeral procession of cars to the grave. Casket car then family limo ride to site or mausoleum for a quick service. Possibly a lunch/ dinner at a church. The limo is sometimes ditched for funding reasons. There is also, cremation. But, this may be a WV or Southern thing. Because cars will pull off a 2 lane roads as the procession passes. Oh, the procession is allowed to run red lights.

Most of the time, that I'm aware of, you have a wake, which may include a short informal service, at the funeral home 1-2 days before the funeral, then the funeral is at the church with a full service. And last, you have the burial, which includes the closest family and friends of the deceased, and usually a small service of variable formality.

I can only speak to the funerals I’ve attended, which have been in Southern Indiana and religious. Typically the day before the funeral; they have a showing either at the funeral home or at a church. They have additional showing time 2 hrs before funeral, then the funeral procession leads everyone to the church for the funeral; the procession is led by police and when a funeral procession passes on the road people are supposed to pull to the side to allow right-a-way to the entire procession (police stop at intersections to stop traffic). Once at the church the funeral proceeds, after everyone is invited to join at the gravesite, but typically everyone doesn’t go. At the gravesite (all gravesite ceremonies I’ve been to have been Catholic) they say some prayers and everyone takes a turn putting holy water on the casket, sitting above ground. As this happens people walk away letting the immediate family last to say goodbye. They don’t lower the cadet into the ground until everyone has left, I’ve always assumed in movies they watched the casket lower for the dramatic effect but maybe some places people do watch the casket being lowered. Afterwards there’s a bereavement meal for anyone who came to the funeral, I think this is our “celebration of life” part…

As a U.S. American, a great many of us are aware of and extremely pissed (as in angry, not drunk) about the polarization of the press. It's to the point, honestly, that you can tell someone's political ideology by their go-to news source. And you're correct, that SHOULD NOT be the case. The press SHOULD be neutral.

Hotdogs - Boiled, pan fried, microwaved - it's all good. IDs - We have to have our drivers license with us to drive. Funerals - varies by faith and region, but where I'm from (Southern Appalachia), we have the wake and funeral in a Church or Funeral Home, then a grave-side service for close family. Eye Care- We have and use all those words. "Eye Doctor" is a catch-all. Close restaurants - It's about car traffic not walking. News - When I was a kid the news tried to be neutral. But now each party has captured a couple of networks that seem to spew their interpretation of the events. It's awful!

-Many of these fast food joints are franchises. She sees McDonald's, I see different owners. -Church, then grave site, every funeral I have attended. Many of the funeral attendees don't go to the grave site. It's mostly close friends and family that do. -With 24 hour "News Networks", much of the programming is not the actual news, but opinion shows. Many people may be confused and swayed by that, but it would be very difficult to fill 24/7/365 with actual news. However, the BBC and other worldwide networks are definitely biased, so she should be used to that... or she simply believes all that they tell her.

The graveside funeral is a result of TV culture - it’s a way of throwing the church service and the graveside prayer into one scene, so it costs less for production. Most actual funerals still have a lot of components - a viewing, a service in a church, and a graveside farewell.
@southernwanderer7912

Graveside funerals were the first funerals. The bodies were buried with friends and family attending the graveside service by the local pastor/priest. Funeral homes aren't that old. If I remember correctly, in the U.S. they became predominant in the Victorian era.

Yeah, I remember my great-grandparents both had a nearly 3-day funeral when they passed. Viewing, then memorial, then graveside. Most others were usually over the course of a whole day, with the viewing at the funeral home, the memorial at a church, and then the procession to the graveyard, where we say the final goodbyes and the final rites.

@@kirkwolak6735 LOL. The problem with cremation is no one will know you existed unless your ashes are buried and a grave marker is present. Like the Romans, human remains will not be able to be studied in the future (unless in encase by volcanic rock).. Paper, books and digital information will deteriorate or become obsolete in time. Agreed. What little she knows of America is from movies/TV and the one short visit she made to one tiny part of the country. She has a peephole sized view. For example, mailboxes are in the door or on the front of houses that are located in downtown urban areas where the houses are close to each other and the mail carrier walks the route. But in suburban and rural areas, where the houses are much farther apart, the mail carrier must drive the route, so the mailboxes are out by the street. As for hot dogs, we cook them various ways...grilled, microwaved, boiled. 350 million people don't all cook the same way. This girl is very sweet, but folks like her need to spend several years, in every region, in this country before they tell the world what is and isn't normal in America. On a recent trip to Sweden, I found many things to be different, but I didn't tell the Swedes, "Hey, you're not normal." Good grief.

Remember, the USA is about car culture. Our postmen don't walk the street, they drive and the letterbox is by the street so they can just drop the mail from the car and move on to the next house, never getting out of the car. Newer neighborhoods now have a centralized box where the postmen can just drive up, deliver everyone's mail at one time, and go.

Depends on the location. My dad lives in San Diego and his mail is still delivered to a mailbox attached to the front of his house. He doesn't have a mailbox in his front door or right beside it because there is a little atrium area that must be walked through in order to reach his front door. There's a gate at the front end of that atrium, which can be locked, if desired. Postal carrier has to have consist access to the mailbox. Where I live in Visalia, California, the majority of homes have a community mailbox containing all the mailboxes in that small vicinity, which might be just a short walk away. But I believe we still do have homes with a mailbox close to the house, if not in the front door itself. The concern I have with the mailboxes inside the front door is that anyone could stick an item in there, such as an explosive. Small animals might even find a way to crawl inside. Doesn't seem safe to me, although it could be argued that this does prevent mail theft.

If they don't fit in our invidiviual box, they usually fit in one of the larger boxes specifically for packages. Yes, there are exceptions tho, for example I lived on a mountain growing up and there was about 2 miles of uphill dirt road between our mailbox and our house (some of which was rather steep) so we always had packages left at the mailbox. There was one time our ups driver decided to come drop it off at our house though out of shear curiosity when he delivered a package on a day the gate also happened to be open. It was quite a site seeing that big brown mail truck out front our house

I have had a mailbox on my house (when I lived in Maryland), some neighbors had a mail slot in their door. Currently, our mailbox in this area of America (suburbs of Georgia) the mailbox is at the end of the driveway. In Maryland the postal workers walked the route, in Georgia, they deliver from their truck. So, areas vary. As far as packages, they will bring them to the front porch. I have found it rare that people call you by the last name, unless you were in the military or police where your name tag showed your last name. Okay, let’s go one by one: 1. I cook hot dogs on the grill, in the microwave, and by boiling them. It just depends on the occasion. 2. Mailboxes. True. Mine is actually a collective box about half a block away from my house. Each house on my street has one box and we have our own key. Parcels are usually set on my porch if it’s from UPS. If it’s from the Post Office, small parcels are put in our mailboxes. 3. Last names are more common when we’re kids, especially if we play sports. When I was in the Army, we went by last names. As we get older, we usually refer to first names. 4. You’re expected to have your ID on you at all times, but it’s not a full on law. 5. The funeral thing can vary, depending on the religion. Catholics have a wake, a service in a church, and it continues at the grave site. Other religions do it differently. 6. Yeah, we have big animals. We also have small ones. 7. Eye doctor is interchangeable with optometrist. We say eye glasses, glasses, and spectacles, on occasion. It’s similar for dentists, who perform basic dental care, and orthodontists, who perform oral surgery. 8. Halloween is just plain old fun for kids. Trick or Treating is a blast for kids to get candy. 9. lol. Wait til you come here. There’s a breakfast chain called Waffle House and they are literally everywhere in the south east. Waffle House can be right across the street from one another. Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina are big on this. 10. Our news programs aren’t staged, they just have political bias. Neutrality of the press is supposed to be the goal, but network news is strictly political.

Ok. Mailboxes. Our homes are generally more spread out. Our postman has to drive to cover his (or her) route. Having the mailbox on the road means the postman doesn't have to exit their vehicle to deliver the mail. Also, in America, the postman will pick up anything that is in our mailbox if we put the flag on our box up. In larger more condensed cities your more likely to have a mail drop slot (in the door). Or, you have a large area of multiple mail "boxes" (key entry) for things like apartments and multifloor buildings. Packages are typically taken and left at the front door. It's why people who steal packages are referred to as "porch pirates".

My experience within a Chrisitan church in California has been that there often is a memorial service in a building or church, and that's the service most of the family and friends of the deceased will attend. It is often advertised in the obituary as well. But the interment of the body or ashes at the graveside might take place on a different day and/or it may only be attended by family and possibly a few close friends. That said, I've also been to funerals that took place entirely at the graveside, although the casket wasn't buried until the guests had all departed. The interment can involve heavy equipment, which the family may not wish for others to witness. And I will also add this caveat that I believe the way I was raised may differ from how most people handle funerals. I know I've seen cases where a procession of vehicles follows the hearse from the location of the funeral to the grave site.

Eye doctor is just a very common phrase. The distinction IS known by all who want to know: optician, optometrist, opthomology... in that order from simplest to most complext level of doctor. Opthomologists are eye SURGEONS, optometrists are very common as eye doctors, and opticians only fit people for glasses (VERY basic).

American here. My mom would always boil our hotdogs. My brother, when he got older, would microwave them because it's faster. I hate how both these options make them taste, and would rather have them fried in a pan, or cooked on a bbq or grill. As an adult I've discovered that sticking them in an air fryer smells and tastes just as good as hotdogs cooked on a bbq, and it's a lot less smoky than pan-frying. Easier cleanup, too.

Package deliveries are usually at the door. Mailboxes in the city are usually attached to the house next to the front door. Some homes do have the mail slot in the door. In the suburbs most mail boxes are at the end of the home's driveway because there is more land to travel on. The mail carrier's drive from house to house in the suburbs and walk door to door in the city. In some cases as in apartment buildings, certain communities or condos there is one spot where all the mailboxes are and you drive or walk there to get your mail.

In the United States, you are NOT required to have your ID on your person at all times. You're ONLY required to have a driver's license if you're driving! If, for some reason, you have an interaction with the police, you are ONLY required to verbally state Your name and address - you DO NOT have to present some formal ID card. Most people do because they have it on them, but you don't have to if you're not driving. When being required to present identification, the law only requires that you give your name and your address. Even then, you don't have to unless you are being suspected of a crime. THAT Is the basis of a lot of First Amendment audit channels that showcase police disrespecting a person's constitutional rights by demanding they identify themselves while having no Reasonable Articulable Suspicion that a crime has been committed, is being committed, or will be committed. It's a violation of the 4th Amendment which insures that a person is secure in their papers and effects.

1. She has a lot wrong. Eye Doctor is short for all of the different specialites of eye doctors. We actually do know the differences. 2. Hot dogs come pre-cooked. Most people still "cook or heat" them up. It is normal to microwave, boil, and grill them. 3. Almost all of our mailboxes are at the end of our driveway and have a place underneath the Postal Mail part for your local you subscribe to it. The Postal worker is the only person legally allowed to open your mailbox. If a package comes by way of the Postal service and fits in the mailbox it goes in there. If not, they put it at your front door. Any package not delivered thru the Postal service is put at your front door. Postal packages can be picked up at the Post Office if you don't want it left on your porch. You can also pay for a mailbox at the Postal service if you prefer all of your mail to be delivered there. Too be honest it is unsafe to have your mail delivered to your house since anyone can steal it if they want. Most of us risk it though. Mailboxes also have a small red flag on the side of it. You slide it up if there is mail for the Postal worker to pick up. I would say 90% of houses in neighborhoods do not have door slots. We have too many people for Postal workers to walk around carrying everyones mail in a huge bag like they used to do. They drive small trucks and can put our mail in our mailboxes without getting out of their truck. It is much more efficient. That is why they are at the end of the driveway. Americans also get a lot of junk mail. 4. Hardly anybody calls people by their last name. It is common in the military among peers and if someone has a couple of friends with the same first name. 5. Funerals are held at churches or gravesites. If they are at a church most people follow the hearst and family to the gravesite. Everyone else on the roads to the gravesite pulls over to the side and stops and doesn't go thru traffic lights until the funeral procession is done. It is out of respect for the deceased. At the gravesite a canopy is already set up and chairs for the family. The hole is already dug. We do have a viewing of the body and visiting with the family held at the funeral home the night before the funeral. A lot of the time large screens show videos from the deceased persons life while the body is in the casket several feet in front of the screen. Most people prefer an open casket if possible. The family gives the funeral home an outfit and pictures so they can fix their hair and makeup to look as much like the person did when they were alive. And no, the person does not end up looking the same. I find it disturbing. Some people go up the the casket and quietly talk to the person.

The US has 2 types of mail carriers, city and rural. City carriers have walking routes, with the mailboxes usually mounted on the house or a mail slot. Rural carriers have driving routes, with mailboxes usually along the road, near the end of their driveways or a cluster of mailboxes in one location. (For clarity, a small rural route might cover 40 miles, or 64km, with about 400 houses. That would be impossible, but not for easily accessible mailboxes along the road.) Although all carriers work together and the fundamentals are the same, they have separate training, unions, and contracts!

And another fun fact that he might not know is that the mailmen don't get out of the car to deliver mail which is why it has to be next to the road. They also drive from the passenger seat (on the right side of the car) because the mailbox is on the right side of the road and we drive on the right side of the road. This lets him reach out of the window to put the mail in the box without getting out of the car (which is safer and faster since they cover such a long distance). If the mailbox was on the other side of the road he would have to move into oncoming traffic to put the mail in the box.

@@winniepierpoint2761 Yes, all areas are different. Some towns don't even have carries; residents have to go to the PO to get their mail. But, if there are boxes available along the road, city carriers will utilize them. The parameters aren't as restricted for city carriers, as much as for rural carriers. Rural carriers are more strictly driving routes, other than dismounts for "cluster boxes" (like in apartments, trailer parks, etc) and rare exceptions. One post office I worked in even threatened to change a rural route to a city because there was a strip mall on it that had 4 stores and the rural carrier walked to each store. The funeral thing where they watch the casket go into the ground often doesn’t happen like it does in the movies. Most graves have a second concrete or metal box that the casket goes in. It takes time to lower the casket into that box and seal it so the gravesite funeral is much like you know in Ireland. It’s also not too pleasant to see a backhoe pushing dirt over your relative so the casket is buried an hour or so after the family leaves. I have seen people throw a little dirt in the hole before the casket goes in but rarely on top.

Funerals: My experience is in the US South. Most funerals happen in a church or funeral home/chapel and there’s often a separate short graveside service that could be just a prayer, or could be a medium length ceremony itself. As for lowering the body, the most common occurrence I’ve seen is that the graveside service concludes and people leave before the funeral home or cemetery workers lower the casket. I have, however, seen other practices including one where the casket was lowered into the grave and friends and family of the departed took turns with a couple of shovels tossing dirt on top.

1:23 yes. Boil hot dogs OR grill. Really? Microwave??? 3:14 we have both. We have our mailboxes usually by the road though not by our door so that UPS trucks and delivery drivers don’t have to leave their vehicles. It’s on the road so the truck can keep going. This is the most common way. Some places do have their mailbox at the door. For apartments however, there’s usually a mail room so that the delivery driver can do all of the mail all at once and you have a key for it. A half mile or a mile is way too far for a normal mailbox. It’s usually right down the driveway. Boxes or deliveries get delivered to your door. It saves time in the long run for everything. 4:54 no we do not call each other by our last names normally. I’ve never called anybody by their last name ever except a teacher with Mr. or Mrs. in front of it. Or military. Peers do not get called by their last name generally. The exception is someone who just prefers to go by their last name which is not common. 7:07 if you’re driving, yes, you have to have your ID on you. You need a license to drive and if you are driving crazy or are getting a ticket for speeding, they do need to have proof of who you are and that you are legally driving (and admittedly America is very car reliant). Of course you need an ID if you’re drinking. Other than that, I assure you, no police officer outside of public disturbances will ever ask for an ID and it is not required for just walking around. If you don’t have your ID on you, they’ll just take your name and find you manually if there’s a legal problem. 10:50: We don’t really watch the casket going into the ground at funerals at all. That’s a movie thing. First, there’s just a viewing of the body, followed by a church service. After that you might go to the gravesite and pay your respects, but that’s really only a small group of close family and friends. The body actually gets buried a few hours after the family leaves. 12:15 Our animals are not bigger because we feed them more. We have different species here. I do concede. We have large animals. 12:45 I’ve only heard anyone actually call them glasses not eyeglasses. Some people do some people do not. America is a very large place with different dialects and slang. we use eye doctor as an umbrella term for any doctor that deals with the eyes however we do specifically call them opticians, optometrists, and ophthalmologists respectively depending on what the person needs. 14:55 Yes. 17:30 I’ve never seen two fast food places of the same chain as close together as you’re describing to be honest, they can be close enough together that you notice but not usually enough that you can see both ever. Usually, there’s at least 10 minutes between any fast food location of the same chain. If you’re specifically talking about big cities, this could be the case, but you have so many people and so much traffic that you need a second location nearby because the first one simply doesn’t have the capacity. 18:12 oh yes. You’ve come across one of the biggest issues we have right now this is a legitimate concern and something that’s really detrimental to our nation. There are ways around this, however. There are apps that show you not only both sides, but where exactly on the political spectrum they slide and give equal coverage of the same issue from both. You can get around it but you have to be really smart about it. Though it is funny you think that Ireland has a completely neutral news because it’s all altered as well. It’s just not as obvious because we have a two party system. In conclusion: I feel like even if this woman has visited America, I certainly don’t think she spent any real time here. America is a massive country and I think she’s underestimating how diverse it is. One city or area is a veeeeery small part of our nation and you get a very skewed experience if you only see that part of it.

Funny fact - if you microwave a hotdog (or egg!) it will explode... yes, I have first hand knowledge of this having blown the door off our microwave several times as a kid! 🤣 Yes, your cheaper packaged hotdogs are often boiled as you can quickly cook a bunch of them for children at one time. However, most people will typically put them on the grill, or at least cook them in a pan on the stove or you'll get a cooked, but soggy disgusting hotdog. 2. Mailboxes - Our main delivery method (USPS) is stretched very thin, there simply aren't enough carriers, and USPS has had budgetary problems so this is the case in many areas, but she's really making it sound a lot worse than it is! Most mail carriers have driving routes, so try to imagine a rural area (like farm land) that has mile long driveways (or more!) If the carrier had to drive miles to and from each house's driveway, they would never be able to deliver all their mail! Here you'll see the mailboxes at the entrance of each driveway where you simply pull up to your mailbox when you get home. Suburban areas are sometimes much different and some still have a slot in the door or box next to it, others will have a mailbox a short distance from the house (2-10 meters) so that the carrier can simply drive from one to the next and deliver mail. In urban areas or apartment complexes, you typically live in large multi-family buildings so there is often a mail room or keyed mail boxes in the entryway. Note: UPS, FedEx, Amazon, or even USPS will leave parcels (boxes) at your door, or in many cases are given a 1-time code to leave the package in your garage when you aren't home! It's really convenient!! 3. Last Names - there are really only 2 places this is ever used, occasionally 3 unofficially! You'll hear last names used in sports, military, or sometimes among close friends as a nickname. You will never hear last names used like this at work, school, etc. In sports, for example, watching my home team the GB Packers (Go Pack Go) you may hear the announcers say something like: "Snap is good, Love looks left, looks right, Watson is wide open, pass is good - Touchdown!" Or in the military you'd hear a Drill Sergeant say something like: "(Last Name) Drop and give me 50!" Other than that, it's not really used - sometimes among friends you'll hear it as a nickname - I have a really common first name, so all my close friends would just use my last name, but only within our friend group. 4. Needing ID - Ok, first of all it is absolutely not "necessary" to have your ID on you! If you're planning to purchase alcohol/tobacco/THC (where legal!) you will want your ID with you. This isn't because Americans are against drinking or super strict, but because of state and federal laws. I forget exactly what it is in my home state (WI) - but I think the law says that if someone looks like their under 40 they must be carded. However, WI is the drinking capital of the USA and most bars are not that strict! In fact, I was able to easily enter a lot of bars as young as 15 or 16 years old - if someone does ask for an ID though, it's probably not because they care, but because they get a $600 fine and the bar can be fined up to $10,000 for letting a minor drink (again, if the officer really cares!) Now, this is how things work in WI for the most part - when it comes to alcohol, most people don't really care all that much. In other parts of the country (CA, CO, IL, MI, etc.) THC is legal and not really cared about much, although drinking laws are much more strict. You should always be very aware of the local, state, and federal laws wherever you are. I know of people that have gone to IL and legally purchased THC, drove a mile in the wrong direction, and got arrested when they crossed into WI - here you're going to be brought in, booked, and most likely spend at least a couple days in a county jail - depending on the amount, this could be as much as several years in a federal prison! Now, for driving, this is technically mandated by law - you should always have your ID, Proof of Insurance, and Registration. However, I've been pulled over a number of times for minor offenses (burned out headlight, expired registration, etc.) without my ID and they'll usually just ask you a few more questions and you're on your way. If the officer is really an ass, they can issue a citation for not having your ID present, but it's only a $10 fine and no "points" against your driving record. In fact, I had a "friend," really more of an acquaintance, that had a bench warrant out for his arrest for an unpaid citation. He gave the officer a friend's info (Name, Address, DOB) and the officer sent him on his way without any questions - this really goes to show that having an ID is not that critical unless you're doing something really bad! Now, if you're committing a major offense - whether you're driving or not, you're probably going to be taken into the station and they'll collect finger prints during your booking that will tell them exactly who you are regardless! So, it doesn't really matter whether you're driving or not. The point is though, you are not required to have an ID on you at all times - only if you're driving, purchasing firearms, alcohol, tobacco, or THC. Also, having a credit card or something with your name on it will not be enough. When someone requires an ID in the US, you need a government issued picture ID, Passport, etc.! 5. Funerals - I think this girl is watching too many movies!! I've lost a lot of friends at a young age, as well as family, but I can say with a fair amount of certainty that this is not how funerals typically work. A funeral service is held at the person or family's church, afterwards a processional is typically held for very close friends and family where a line of cars follows the Herse to the gravesite to say their final goodbyes and the coffin is lowered. Now, with that said, America has a very diverse culture and religions so this may not be the case in all scenarios. However, the whole scene of everyone gathering at the graveyard and putting things on the casket is typically only seen on TV or in Movies for dramatic effect. I have never seen or heard of this - anywhere!

6. Animals - I'm not sure wtf she claims to have seen, but we don't have rats the size of cats or dogs here! I happen to live in a somewhat rural area with fields around me so mice are very common and they're typically 2-5cm or so (plus the tail), rats are a bit bigger, maybe 10-15 cm at most!? I'm guessing she probably saw a possum or somethings, they are a little bigger but usually harmless, although they are ugly looking things! Squirrels are harmless, they get into your bird feeders, but other than that their fun animals and not big! There are a lot of types of squirrels, but they are usually only 5-20 cm long with bushy tails. In fact, a lot of people actually like squirrels and have fun watching them play around. Raccoons are a bit bigger, but again, they're harmless unless you try to corner one or capture it. They dig around in garbage cans and occasionally make a mess, but they're about the size of a large cat or very small dog. 7. Eye Doctors - Ok, in fairness if something is wrong with our eyes we may say something like "I need to see the eye doctor" but I think this is just because of the way the US healthcare system works. You can't simply make an appointment with a specialist, so you'd first have to see a General Practitioner or Optometrist who can then give a referral to an Ophthalmologist or other specialist. Healthcare is a major expense and issue in the US! I'm not sure about the part where she references "eyeglasses" though, this is technically correct, but if you saw the doctor and needed corrective lenses most Americans would just say something like "I need to wear reading glasses now" or something along those lines. 8. Halloween - WHAT!? Ok, yes some people really like Halloween, but decorations don't get too out of hand - it's typically some orange/purple lights, maybe some ghosts or spiders, but 99% of us don't really go out of our way for Halloween. We also have "pop-up" stores that show up in Sept or Oct, but they're gone by Nov. It's not a year-round thing!! Children will go trick or treating for a day and young adults sometimes dress up and go out to the bars or clubs, but once Halloween is over the decorations and celebration is typically over. I'm really not sure where this misconception comes from - maybe movies again?! 9. Fast Food Restaurants - I have never seen 2 of the same restaurants next to each other! It is very common for all of the fast-food, and even traditional restaurants to be grouped together, but this is because America overly monetizes everything! Millions, probably billions are spent on market research to find the ideal location for everything - nearby schools? neighborhoods? traffic? Companies are hired to analyze all of these factors and find the perfect location for everything! The closest I've ever seen to what she is talking about is a local Starbucks, but with good reason. There was a Starbucks just off the highway that was the busiest in the Upper-Midwest that would literally have 100+ cars blocking traffic from 5AM-8AM and 4PM-7PM. The cars would wrap around the entire building, through Target's parking lot, and into the street for about a full block; so, they decided to build another about 5 blocks down the road to free up traffic in that location. By her definition, I guess you could technically say there were 3 - but for good reason. Inside of large stores like Target or Walmart they typically have a number of small stores with a limited selection. If you're going shopping at Walmart for example, you're most likely shopping for groceries? maybe a new TV or Laptop? furniture? Hardware? Possibly getting new tires on your vehicle? Needless to say, you're probably there for a long time and it's nice to have a break and get a coffee or a bite to eat! Trust me, I absolutely dread going to Walmart, and when I'm finally finished with hours of shopping, traffic, parking, and chaos - I just want to go home! Not stop at another drive-through and wait some more! 10. Journalism - This is a tricky one, but I'll try to summarize it the best I can. First, news is news - no matter where you get it from (well, from any major source!) The "story" is not re-enacted like she makes it sound. The same news is shown on all major sources. Now, what I think she's getting at is journalistic bias or the way it's portrayed - America, sadly, is more divided than its ever been. 50% are moving toward "far-left" ideology and 50% are moving toward "far-right" ideology. People want to "feel good" when they tune in to the news, so journalism has gone away from strictly news and moved toward news and opinion segments. A great recent example of this was President Biden's State of the Union Address - depending on your political bias, you could tune into one station and see the exact same State of the Union Address, but with commentary that either aligns with your "left bias" or another station that aligns with your "right bias" (Left Wing Bias = Democrats, Right Wing Bias = Republicans). So basically, you're watching the same "news," but the commentary are completely opposite - one station will agree with what he said and make you feel good, and another will point out all of the "bad" things he said, or what "he should have" said to make you feel good. Whew, that was a lot, but hopefully helps explain things a little better! Watching your channel makes me realize just how poorly our country is represented, simply because of TV and Movies! I remember one of your videos that talked about gun violence and how non-US citizens thought that everyone was walking around with guns and there were shootings all over the place. Luckily, this is the furthest thing from the truth, but if the news and movies couldn't use it, no one would watch - it's simply the worst of the worst things that happen in a country larger (in size) than all of Europe! Sure, I know a few people that have guns locked away at home for protection, but there's about a 1 in a trillion chance they'll ever need to pull it out of the safe. Although the majority of us don't own guns, nor have we even seen one - let alone on the streets! Unfortunately, this really gives people the wrong idea about our country and I feel like it probably scares a lot of people away from visiting and seeing all of the great things we do have, and how friendly the majority of people really are! If you eventually do come to visit, don't be afraid to talk to complete strangers or ask questions - the majority of us are more than happy to chat and help a visitor out!

Three stages to a funeral (for all of the ones that I’ve been to) 1.the viewing 2.the actual funeral 3.the burial witch is the part in the cemetery

As a veteran who has done a graveside honor guard, we were instructed that the veteran who is being buried is not entered, or at wrest, until his body has been completely laid in the ground and is finally laid to rest. Since being taught that, when I attend a funeral graveside, I will stay there until the body has been fully laid to rest. That does not mean dirt over the casket, just in its final resting place.

That’s really interesting because I’ve never been to a funeral where they let guests see the body get lowered down. I’m American too. I always figured maybe it was too difficult for most to watch. Does that mean you have to stick around extra long?
@jkchubbs

It could also depend on who trained me. He was a proud old sergeant that believed in military tradition and had a lot of respect for his brothers who served and wanted to be sure they made it to their final resting place. I respected this man. He taught me a lot about being a leader and how to treat all those who served with me respect and always let them know that I had their back. It made a lot of sense to me and taught me to be proud of what I was doing. That veteran may no longer be with us, but until he is fully at rest, he still deserves my full respect. And yes, I would still be standing watch long after the family had gone. Just my way.

The funeral is normally in a church, but there is also a graveside service when the person is buried. Probably in the movies they're saving money and not having to have an extra set for the church.

My impression is Halloween has been taken over by adults. When I was a child in the 1950s it was all about going out Trick Or Treating. My mother carved the pumpkin and baked cookies to give out, but that was it. In my small town in Connecticut many adults gave out homemade treats such as popcorn balls and candy apples. If they gave candy, it was a small bag filled with different types, not just a single piece. No one worried about what was handed out, it was all safe. Good memories.

Sometimes there are identical restaurants a block apart usually on divided highways where you would have to drive 5 miles beyond to find an exit to turn around.

Yeah, that makes sense. When she says "are you too lazy to walk across the street" she displays a complete lack of understanding of America. We don't WALK to get fast food unless we don't have a car. Hardly anyone, ever, is walking to a fast food restaurant, so it's not about not crossing the street unless you're physically unable to get to the other side of the road because there's a highway or a toll road or something.

We have same designation here. Optician fits the glasses themselves. Optometrists can prescribe lenses and or diagnose basic eye problems and prescribe medicine. Ophthalmologists can do everything an optometrists can as well as do surgery. They are MD’s that have specialized in ophthalmology.
