You need to listen to more Deichkind. This song is a satire and critique of consumerism, delivered in a very unique style. I think it is very hard for non german speakers to understand the nuances, but they make blatantly fun of ppl who over indulge in shopping, lifestyle and self-image.

Yeah, I think that's a pretty accurate interpretation. Deichkind is always making fun of and criticizing the messed-up parts of our society. It's like, really sarcastic.

Yes, he basically says with as much "boredom" in his voice as possible that everything is really good. But in fact, everything is boring because you can have everything and you've already seen everything somewhere. The outfits and everything in the video should show once again what's available. There are also side-swipes in the direction of TikTok etc., where you just see things like that (someone eating live octopus and so on).

Agreed with all of you. In addition I'd like to add that (in my experience) half of the song's lyrics are basically party acquaintances chit-chat phrases of what's new, what's worth checking out, what's worth it's money. It's all a conversational blueprint talk to make yourself feel more cultivated. This song and video really is an A+ of being frickin cool song & video, but also conveying a real meaning. Very precisely! I'd add for the title that it 'Richtig gutes Zeug' would also be an iconic phrase to use for drugs. So that also brings another layer to our consumption goods beeing talked about the same as drugs.

The Lyrics in German are GENIUS - they have such a good sense of german language how it is spoken - each sentence they use in this song you would ALWAYS hear from your neighbor, buddy, etc. trying to tell you how THEY know best what`s good.... Deichkind are masters of lyrics!

Native speaker here. The lyrics are just a compilation of common sayings - nothing genius to hear here. Also the idea isn't new, like their song 'leider geil' or 'dicker Bauch' - it's literally the same idea, which they stole from the song 'mfg' from Die fantastischen Vier. It's ok to like the music, maybe, but you have no understanding of german language at all, if you see anything genius here. Like in their first days, which I wittnessed with disgust, they do nothing but act as weird as they can to get the money. This band is as ridiculous as it gets, has no evolution at all and is a flybraintrap.

The actor in the video with all the stickers all over his face and the octopus in his mouth is Lars Eidinger - in my opinion the BEST German actor of his generation…. Absolutely great talent, great in every genre, absolutely not afraid of doing ANYTHING, not a single ounce of vanity. A great artist!

They startet as an "ordinary" Hip Hop Group in the 90s (and made cool oldschool Hip Hop). But they developed over the last 2 centurys. Now they are just unique and great. Deichkind concerts are LEGENDARY

The lyrics, to me, are mostly about three things: the vibes of some sky high guy you meet at a party in Hamburg who's salivating over nice food he'd like to have, nostalgia for things that don't exist anymore or don't hit like they did when you were young, and yes, like many have commented, the buy buy buy consumer mentality

Deichkind is very famous in Germany. Basically every German knows their Songs "Leider Geil", "So`ne Musik" and "Bück Dich Hoch". My personal favorites are "Remmidemmi (Yippie Yippie Yeah)" and "Pferd im Stall".

Deichkind were the contemporary non plus ultra of German electronic hip hop at the time of this album. Unfortunately, at least for me, they haven't developed any further in their newer music. One of their older songs that I can also recommend to you is 'Arbeit nervt'. The video and the lyrics are funny in a socially critical way. Edit: On 'Richtig gutes Zeug': The content of the text, to break it down, is simply consumer criticism

I honestly have to disagree. Their more recent album was somewhat different for sure, but in my opinion, in different ways, they still hit the nail on the head with their political and social commentary, there were some straight bangers on the album and the videos are just as crazy, only maybe not as big in production.

Deichkind are amazing artists and deliver outstanding performances. But they also have a great sense of humor and don’t want to be taken 100% seriously. I recommend their newer video 'In der Natur.' If you translate the lyrics into English, you’ll know what I mean. "Wer sagt denn das" is also absolutely worth seeing, with very profound lyrics. At one of their live concerts, I stood there almost the entire time with my mouth open, unable to believe what I was seeing (in a positive way). It’s important to remember that these people are around 50 years old. Greetings from Austria!

They are exceptional artists. Through their weird, humorous style, they are often quite profound and satirical, lyrically as well as visually. Had the pleasure of seeing them perform live just some weeks ago and their shows are just as insane.

They make fun of both, drug use and consumerism in this vid. It's a badinage, it's art. I get that you recognize the unique flow of this music but you really need to understand German to get the whole thing behind Deichkind's Style.

I saw them a few Weeks ago live on Stage and they looked just like in the Videos. Really great Show. Awesome Visuals and Sound. I blew me away. It was a great Evening. btw. I‘m a long haired Metalhead/Punk and i normally dont like HipHop/Rap at all! 😅 But these Guys are just Art and to me they are far away from beeing HipHop. In my Head they are in the Electropunk Section. Their Songs “Bück dich hoch“ or “Arbeit nervt“ are just high Level Social Criticism like Punkrock. Greets from Germany

Deichkind is probably the most unique band in Germany. They don't serve a singular genre, their music varies in style and every single track is characterized by professionalism and since 1997 they deliver on a level beyond anything else. At first glance it may seem a bit random and weird, but the lyrics are usually very deep, sometimes sarcastic and sometimes with hidden references. There are also sometimes hidden easter eggs in the videos that refer to something. The live shows are very famous and even there deichkind show the same level of professionalism I find your reaction to deichkind (and also to older german hip hop) very fascinating and would be happy if you would bring more reactions to this. A good example of the scope of the different styles would be “Luftbahn”, I'm sure you'd be very surprised :)

You should listen to "Deichkind-komm schon" this was the best. Thats the Song that started this laid Back Rap Style of Deichkind. If you want to listen to their Albums start with the old ones. First and second. There they were a Hip Hop Crew and influenced Lots of German Hip Hop from today. If you listen to the Song "tarantula in the darkness" you Here the strong influences they gave to Guys Like gzuz

Deichkind WAS a hiphop group but became an ironic pop and dance act with very funny and entertaining lyrics. "Very/ really good stuff" A typical phrase when it comes to drugs is used here for everyday objects.

Oh yes, I hoped you'd react to that one. It's trippy indeed. I remember first watching it and the sound effects and visuals made me feel like I'm on drugs. Philipp sliding off his chair like he is a doll is a good visual representation of that feeling. Btw you are right, when you watch them in interviews they come across as pretty down to earth guys. They just have a great artistic sense.

Want to see their humor in videos a few years ago? To get where they came from i highly suggest you watch the video "Leider Geil" and then after "Like mich am Arsch" You get the reference of the the drunk guy grabbing for beer. The order is important!

The “kind” in Deichkind is pronounced with a short “i” like in Kindergarten. “Deich” means seawall/dike and “kind” child

They're very highly respected old school legends that keep pushing the boundaries of hip hop (or just their own style of music in general). They've reached a status where they could make a track that just consisted of fart sounds and people would appreciate the artistic value of it and interprete it as social commentary

Check out "Keine Party" and "Dinge" and the video trilogy is complete. Lars Eidinger (the naked guy) is not a member of the band, he is a great german actor, who liked the work with Deichkind in these three videos.

I would say they are properly rated in Germany. They started doing music with a lot of irony and layers in their texts but went hard into electro clash and art rap in their later career. I guess Run the Jewels is someone I would compare them with. The weirdness is earned.

Deichkind = Electro - Hip Hop with a punk attitude, left leaning views and deadpan delivery. And yes, this is the longest genre descripition I've ever done. They've shown their process of making beats on several german YT music channels. In my opinion heavily influenced by some electronic and industrial bands, especially some of the synths are spot on early electronic music, like late 70s early 80s. That combined with rather modern beats... and you get a lot of their sound figured out.

The german "ei" is pronounced like the english "ai", the single "i" in german is pronounced like an english "e". So the vowels in "d EI ch" are like in "f i ght" and "Kind" is pronounced like in " Sing".
