I was almost deleted, before I was born. My mum was 8 and half months pregnant with me and was walking our Newfoundland dog. She was crossing an intersection, it turned green - when a car came screaming around the corner. It hit our dog first, sending him flying and then my mum. The man who drove the car, at least called an ambulance and waited until they came for my mum. Our dog was ok, tho had a lot of scrapes. The doctor told my parents, that had the car hit my mum first, I probably wouldn’t be here today and writing this. So, our dog, Samson - I owe him my life.
With cars that run into businesses, one thing I've heard reported often is that someone meant to press the brake but stepped on the gas pedal instead, then panicked and pressed down harder as if it was the brake. Often times older people, but not exclusively. Sometimes people under the influence, or even just a driver lacking confidence.
Yep. That's usually exactly how it happens. It happened to me once but I hit the brakes instead of the gas. I was in my girlfriend's newer car and the pedals were closer together than in my old Ford pickup.
I used to live in Indianapolis, home to the Indy 500 and other races. A friend is really into Nascar, but not open wheel. I asked why. She said she went to an open wheel race when she was younger, and there was a bad wreck. She saw the driver's helmet go flying into the stands. Problem was, the driver's head was still in it. She was turned off to open wheel.
It was Jan. 16, 1982, Washington DC, when I drove into the tail end of a yellow light which instantly turned red. I was nearly deleted from the planet by an onrush of cars in this busy intersection. A couple minutes later I was still shaking as I drove across the 14th Street Bridge. I had cleared the bridge by only a few seconds when there was a terrible crashing sound behind me. Looking in the rear view mirror I could see two or three cars behind me. They were the last to make it across before an airplane with over 70 passengers crashed into the bridge, sending several cars as well as the plane into the icy water of the Potomac River. I escaped death twice in about a two minute span of time.
Yes, SHE made it @ 1.28. This is 17 year old German driver Sophia Floersch at the 2018 Formula 3 race in Macau. She was actually going more like 170 MPH, and sustained a fractured vertebra, but fully recovered and is still racing today.
I've nodded off more than once while driving. I worked the graveyard shift for 34 years and because I lost so much sleep on a regular basis, I was always tired. Everyone I worked with was tired like I was but the night shift paid better. The scariest experience happened sometime in the mid-1990s. I was driving a little sports car that was low to the ground. [ Nissan 300 ZX ] and I was on the freeway next to an 18-wheeler when I started to nod off and the car drifted. I came very close to getting killed that afternoon.
The electric cable job @8:30, the line was supposed to be off and the worker was told to start the removal. Whoever "turned it off," had cut power to the wrong line. Very lucky it didn't kill anyone.
When cars just randomly crash into buildings or crowds without slowing down, it's almost always a case of the driver stepping on the accelerator when they think they're pushing the brake pedal. When the car doesn't slow down, they just instinctively push harder on the gas.
Always love your videos! Here's my scary story: A few months ago, I was driving to a concert about 130 miles away going about 80mph. I was already going above the speed limit (75mph), but everyone speeds a lot where I'm from (rural Kansas, USA), so there were cars passing me going like 90mph. When I was around 1/2 way there, a few cars passed, but suddenly started swerving into my lane. The last car would have hit me if I hadn't hit my brakes. As I pass by where they started swerving, I see a ladder that has fallen off of a service van (that is pulled off the highway a little ahead) that looks like it has already been run over a few times. That was one of the scariest moments I've experienced on the highway, especially since that was the first time that I've went on a solo trip that far away.
I used to work with explosives, the horn sounding before the blast is normal. The one deer moved away but the second moved away and then turned back. By this time it would have been too late for the demolition man to prevent the blast from going off. Once you initiate the timer there is no going back.
I actually did die and had to be resuscitated on April 9th, 2014. I was working on my car with just a jack supporting it, the jack tipped over and the car fell on me. My head was crushed by the frame, fortunately I was conscious the entire time, but lost consciousness on the helicopter ride to the hospital. For four minutes, I could feel the car crushing my skull slowly, I thought I was definitely going to die, fortunately my neighbor saw me pinned and jacked the car back up and called 911. Saved my life.
4:45 babies can be surprisingly strong and very unpredictable. They often catch first time parents by surprise. I had my baby in a baby sling at the airport. I'd been carrying him around in it everywhere and had no problems up until then. he suddenly bunched his feet up in one end of it and freaking LAUNCHED himself out of it. Luckily I was on my knees dealing with baggage so it wasn't a big fall but omfg I felt like the worst parent ever and EVERYONE standing around looked at me like I was trash. Don't judge too hard. Things happen. Tell you what I never used THAT sling again lol. I didn't think a 4 month old could push himself that hard and the sling was rated up to 8 months old lol.
The snowmobiles and the bear one I've seen the longer clip of and those snowmobiles were harassing the bear. The bear initially was trying to run away, but they wouldn't back off!! But yes, the bear scene in The Revenant is hard to watch!! So intense!!
I was a surgical tech and I worked nights doing mainly emergencies. I had motorcycle riders with mangled legs at least 4 times every summer. Started in the Spring and thru into fall. Will never get on one.
I grew up around a lot of grizzlies. You definitely don't mess with those dudes. I had one once rip the side off my chicken coop.... Not going to fight a bear over some chickens.
8:45 I don't know if that guy was a utility worker or not, but he had electrical PPE on for damn sure. Regular shoes or boots, and he wouldn't have moved other than falling over.
@ 3.35 Funny how Kabir criticizes the Lambo driver, completely missing the motorcycle that passed him on the right, then lost control and came within an inch of the oncoming car.
I rode an Elephant when I was 5 years old at the Circus, not something many people I know can say! Dude was cruising listening to WASP when suddenly a guy on a mountain bike lands on his bonnet
I rode a motorcycle for 6 years from 2006-2012 and never had an accident. I was always very responsive on the road or whatever I drove my bike. I had a few tip overs where I was going slow either backing up or turning around but never anything major or gotten hurt. I've been in a lot of car accidents over my many years of life. But the worst was the last one I was in. I was sitting at a red light. Last car on the inside lane. Thankfully I had it in neutral. All of it sudden I jerked forward and my car glided into the turning lane where it was stopped by the cement median. I tried to slam on the brake but couldn't reach it. I then took off my seat belt to get out but couldn't move from my waist down my legs. Then I realized my seat was sitting against the back seat. The EMTs had to take me out of the car on a back board. I finally got my feeling back several hours later. Since then I've had trouble walking. Come to find out an 18 year old kid was driving his mom's small pickup truck. He was doing 65 mph when he looked to change the radio. When he looked back up it was too late to do anything and he rammed my tail end. Totaled my 1995 teal mustang. His front was half way up the engine. When the tow truck from his insurance company came and took it away I got very depressed and cried for many days. That car was my baby. It was inint condition in 2005. Yes. I rode a motorcycle after that. I actually found it easier to ride a bike than drive a car. I only had to straddle the bike instead of fighting for get in and out of the car.
When I was 19yrs my car was hit by a truck & it caused my car to flip 7x. The driver of the truck was drunk & said he never even tried to hit the brakes. I had a concussion, broken arm, sprained ankle, lots of cutsbruises, & hurt my lower back which I had to had surgery.
My scariest experience on the road was the hood of my ancient truck disconnecting and flying up right onto the windshield blocking my view.. Miraculously I was able to pull over safely.
@ 4.39 "where's the kid's parent?" Well, clearly, the parent or guardian is right there, and we have absolutely no clue about the circumstances that led to this.
Kabir, the guy in the Lambo is not at fault here, if you look closely the guy on the bike overtook both the white car and the Lambo by cutting between the two cars.
With the one where the car pulls into the lane with a truck, that's simply a case of the car driver not seeing the truck in their blind spot. This is why you should always turn you head instead of relying entirely on your mirrors.
12:59 the guy on the bike looks like he was composited into the video. What kind of nut makes a blind jump onto a busy road? And I don't think that deer quite managed a NEAR-death experience.
I love elephants too mostly because they are so similar to humans when it comes to family. That elephant was did a look back like, bro, you f with my family itll be the last thing you do!
1:52 That is a teenage woman driver her name is Sophia Floersch. I have no idea why she's going at such a high rate of speed She must have forgot track layout
15:01 This was the bicyclist fault. Just because you wave your hand where the truck driver can’t even see you doesn’t mean you have the right of way riding in the wrong direction.
Kabir the old man who was walking between cars was what they call jay walking in America. It is illegal for obvious reasons. In America the auto industry lobbied congress and got laws passed that pretty much make pedestrians more responsible for their own safety rather than drivers.
The near death experience you totally missed was the corner workers that the car flew over and almost landed on had nothing to do with the driver he was perfectly fine after the crash.
At the time my family and i were big Nascar fans. Watched on tv as well as attending races. Well one race i watching to see who would win ( end of race) , i actually watched my favorite driver die when he hit the wall at the very end. It didnt even look like he hit it that hard but it killed him. I was devastated. Id met Dale Earndheart one and he was such a gentleman and signed my t-shirt. I hope i never see something like that again.
The video of the bear immediately infuriated me. The sort of person who would chase a bear across the snow with a snowmobile should never be allowed to be in nature. Did they think that was fun? BTW, it is not only morally reprehensible, it is actually a crime to do that.
