I have never once thrown garbage out of my car window. I'd say the same is true for most Americans. I'm sure there are people who do that, especially in big cities, but I rarely see anyone do that. As to air conditioning, I dare anyone to try living in Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, or Southern California without air conditioning. We are always hearing of seniors dying of heat when the power goes out. I'm arrogant because I have a flag flying at my house? I fly my flag because I'm proud to live in a country that strives to be the best in everything we do. We may not always succeed, but we always try. We try to do the right things. Again, we may not always succeed, but we try. I'm proud of my country because I think we try to stand on the side of right most of the time. We are struggling right now, but I'm very proud of my American countrymen when we all pitch in together to help others. Even other countries. When there is a famine, we pitch in, when there is a major destructive storm or catastrophe, we pitch in. The public pitches in with donations, and our emergency management teams get sent to help. Arrogant. OK. Also, I am rarely late. I consider myself to be punctual. Ask anybody that works a 9-5 job if they would keep their job if they were late too often. You'll see that most people are on time. Someone below said that they are used to the hate. I suppose that is true. I don't really care what others think. But they're wrong.

The thing about Europeans complain about Americans and our AC there’s a reason last year alone Europe had 61,000+ people die from heat stroke and Americans had 1,600 people total. Europeans have more deaths from heat than Americans have gun deaths since they love to tell us at least our schools don’t look like call of duty video games
@dawnyoung8
@dawnyoung8 6 месяцев назад
They leave air on while they’re gone because if you turn it off and the house heats up , it takes twice as long to cool it again . Also, if you turn it off the ac runs continuously until it is cooled off .

Exactly!..I live in the South and we can't turn off our air con in the summer... too hot
@texasson
@texasson 6 месяцев назад
Correct, living in Texas, if I turned the AC off for the day while gone, it would cause the AC to run twice as hard and long once I got home to cool it off. Also, my golden doodle needs the AC to sleep all day, lol.
@deaniej2766
@deaniej2766 6 месяцев назад
And it uses more energy to cool down than it does to maintain the cool. A lot of people use their programmable thermostats to use less energy while the house is empty and the heat or air cond turns up about 30 minutes before we get home. In a lot of families, the house is not empty long enough to justify turning down the air cond. We all may have different and often overlapping schedules.
@Zhiperser
@Zhiperser 6 месяцев назад
It also doesn't run non-stop. I often think they only have experience with the old school window units. But our AC kicks on and off as necessary to keep it the right temperature.
@deelady53

I turn it down if we're leaving but it costs more to turn it off and then have to cool it down again.

I hosted a Scottish family in my rental in Florida and offered to show them a few things local before I left town. When it was time for them to leave I took them to the airport ( I had arranged this as rental drop off at the airport is a fiasco ) the dad said he loved America and wanted to come back again and again: I asked what did you like most - he said “Americans are loud and outrageous just like Scots” 😂😂😂😂 he’d gone to the raver at the pier so I had to agree he met all the loud outrageous Americans. Probably danced his Scottish kilt off too.

Florida resident here. We leave the AC on because it takes less work for the equipment to keep the temperature cool in the house, instead of cooling a hot house that had the AC off all day. Less strain the the electrical grid, and less wear on the machines. We also do our best to make the houses efficient to help keep costs down.

We have to come in there and finish kicking ass. I wish we could go back to the way things used to be even after World War II. It was so catastrophic and disgusting that the United Nations was created and it was good for a while but it’s been useless for the past 20+ years.. the non-government organizations suck and people around the world, including Americans, do much more to help people by donating when we are paying low prices in low taxes if a country has a natural disaster, or like when Ethiopia went through that horrible drought in the 1980s and people were starving because people all over the world and especially the United States Australia and Western Europe were donating money and raising all kinds of money through the musicians, etc. etc. and people were buying albums and concert tickets we’re all the proceeds went to help the Ethiopians,

Growing up I remember watching for my uncle (dad's little brother) to come through grandma's front door every time he left to go serve overseas. I remember my mother's middle brother as he left at the tender age of 18 to go serve overseas and I remember the shell of a man who came back scarred mentally from what happened in front of him. He came back but in a way he didn't. Several other family members never came back. It's because of them and every man and woman who serve to protect our country.. make the ultimate sacrifice to lay their life down and are willing to die to keep us safe and free.. they are why I fly a flag. Yes I love my country and yes I will proudly say so. It's my way of honoring those who have done what so many.. like myself.. couldn't. If I could have served I would have. I went through the sign up and sadly didn't pass the physical. I'm not loud nor do I toss trash on the ground..never have.. never will. I love this land to much to destroy it. If that makes me obnoxious or arrogant.. then so be it. When people are in need.. we come together to help them.. no matter race..color.. religion.. background.. we give what we can and help to find a way to get them what they need. As for punctual.. unless something comes up that can't be helped but to be dealt with immediately.. everyone I know is always on time.. more likely they are usually early so as not to keep anyone waiting. Polite.. everyone is polite unless you give them a reason not to be. It all comes down to respect!! Why do we keep improving our military? We don't want a repeat of 9/11!! We cried as a nation and as a nation we helped pick each other up and keep going. We are still feeling the impact of that horrific day. We vowed to do everything in our power to prevent that from happening again. Arrogant.. obnoxious.. maybe but by improving our defenses we are better able to help and protect those who call on us for help. Why do we help? Simple.. we care about someone besides ourselves!! If you haven't already.. you need to react to Toby Keith American Soldier and tell anyone who wants to know why Americans are the way they are to listen to it. We are not all rich like some think. We are not all hateful.. rude.. loud.. obnoxious.. arrogant.. disrespectful nor do we throw our trash on the ground. Most of us live day to day hoping to have enough food to eat and a roof over our heads. I'm in my early 60's and I am one of those who live day to day.

#5 - As an American, I can see it. A lot of us think we are the best lol. I don't understand why you wouldn't think your own country is the best? I would expect Lewis to say that the UK is the best, and someone from Germany to say Germany is the best. Just because we think our country is the best doesn't mean we ignore our faults. If anything, we are hyper aware of our faults and strive to improve our country. Also, just because you think your country is the best doesn't mean you can't be polite. I think in the US we are generally extremely polite because we have so many different cultures and immigrants that come to our country. Literally everyone is an immigrant or descendant of immigrants. #4 - I completely disagree with number 2. The US fosters so much more creativity and free thinking in their education than many other countries. That's why so many of the newest best inventions come from the US. There are upsides and downsides to this system, but the video said we just want drones, and I feel like it's the complete opposite. #3 - I kind of said it earlier, but yeah, people in the US are always trying to improve. #2 - Yeah this is true. Our society is very money focused. But that is also why the American dream exists. You actually can "make it" and become wealthy. #1 - Lol this one. Yeah a lot of Americans are fat. It is what it is. However, we also have a huge population that are very fitness focused. There isn't a lot of in-between.

Regarding American ignorance, it is shockingly true. Decades ago a particular ideological group took control of our educational systems and have been systematically dumbing down our citizens. That is why the homeschool movement has grown phenomenally. I homeschooled all five of my children because back in 1981 it was brought to my attention that the public schools were failing to teach children how to read. (See the book, "Why Johnny Can't Read.) I am so very grateful to the pioneers of homeschooling. I've seen videos of young adults on the street being asked, "Who was the first president of the United States? What is the capital of the United States?" and other basic questions and they are clueless. I had to memorize the Preamble to the Constitution and a good chunk of the Declaration of Independence. I doubt most young Americans have ever seen these documents in school, much less studied them.

Awesome video, Lewis! Thank you. To many here, what it boils down to is an underlining reason for continental Europe's often over-the-top criticism of us Americans may be due to the guilt they evidently feel about the behavior of more than a few of their citizens during the past decades. Whether it be under the nazis or the communists. It's easily understandable that can be an excellent motivation for criticizing others. After all, the compliance, in the not-so-distant past, with having a hand in exterminating countless numbers of their own friends and neighbors, men, women and children must weigh heavily on their collective consciousness.

I think it’s how they interpret what we do as a negative because it’s the propaganda that their country has given them to enforce those beliefs. The reason I think that is because many people from the UK say that they weren’t taught about us in school so they have no information to compare the stereotypes to. All they know is the stereotypes. If you know about a people it may help you understand their behavior. For example if all you see is fast food in a country as the food that people eat you will think that’s all that they eat. If you heard things about an American family cooking dinner at home and sitting down to a meal you could draw the conclusion that Americans cook dinner at home they don’t only eat fast food out. But,You have to also not want to dislike people because they aren’t like you.

AC isn't just a switch to turn on. You can set the thermostat temperature so it uses less electricity to keep a steady temperature rather than cooling a hot and humid house over and over. Newer American homes are very well insulated so the temps stay constant by an ac that only turns on enough to maintain a set temperature and uses far less electricity. As far as stereotypes go the US is very diverse from location to location and every individual is a bit different in each location. Lewis should know by now that a lot of us want to adopt him as an unoffical nephew when he visits. I am sure he will get a lot of homecooked meals.

My mom in 1976 (i was born 8-10-70) explained the term "Ugly American" to me and told me she had been learning both languages on her own to at least be able to understand and communicate. One day were at a shop in Italy and some Americans (from the base) were in front of us at the register screaming obscenities "How come you dont speak English?!!!" etc etc When they left the shop employees (in Italian) were laughing at us. "More Americans ... ha ha ha" I asked my mom whats up? She spoke Italian (broken) and their faces dropped but instead of getting mad at them, She apologized for them and promised that most Americans are the opposite of that. The employees were so nice to us after and later they said it was because she made the effort to learn their language. Love my mom :)

It costs more to turn it off while I'm not home because it becomes a hot box inside home, the A/C has to work twice as hard(twice the use of electricity) if you turn it off. I have all the love in the world around me everyday. I'm not gonna stress out what someone who doesn't know me thinks about me or the country I live in.

It takes less energy for an air conditioner to MAINTAIN a temperature then to be turned off and then hours later turned back on to work down to a temperature.

I went to Europe 10 years ago and met a couple of Australians who really were surprised at how nice I was. One Australian women got in my face about our right to bear arms. The English and Italians were very nice to us. They definitely don't throw away as much paper and plastic products as we do

Lololollll!!! I live in Texas where summers get up to 115 degrees F or about 46 C. If I left my A/C off while I was out for the day, it would take more energy to cool the house down once I'm home than it would if I just leave it on throughout the day. Also, I have a dog. I'm not subjecting her to that kind of heat. That would be animal abuse.

I don't think the critics understand how HVAC systems work. If a building is properly insulated it uses less energy to maintain a temp at a constant level than rapidly cooling a hot environment or warming a cold one over and over. You can quibble over what setting is "tolerable", but in the majority of circumstances, you burn more fuel recovering from an extreme temp than maintaining a tolerable temp 24/7.

Bro, we’re good with the haters. America is a big country, and a lot of the stereotypes apply to individuals…if not regions of our nation. We have very friendly people everywhere, but the southern states dominate in that category. Southern charm is the best. We have obesity everywhere, but also excel in fitness and health. We love money and “things”, but that is capitalism, and most of us get a chance to grow. It’s a complicated pool of opportunity, culture, repression, indulgence, hope, and pessimisim.

Lewis I love your attitude toward Americans and when you do finally make it to the USA, if you make it to Florida, I will personally be your tour guide if that is what you need. You just let me know. Thanks for defending us.

Reasons why you may want to leave your AC on even when you leave the house. 1. It takes more energy to let it heat up and then cool it back down than to maintain the target temperature. 2. You don't want your pets to roast. 3. If you're gone for a week or two and it gets really hot inside, you can damage the paint on the walls.

It gets to a 100° sometimes here in Louisiana. And I have pets. I am not leaving my windows open. So my house can be very hot and my pets need it cool
