I used to be very allergic to fire ants. I even had to go to the hospital to get an epinephrine shot because I accidentally fell into a fire ant hill without realizing it. It happened during recess at school when I was about 7 or 8. By the time i felt a few quick bites, I already had hundreds of ants all over me. I freaked out and started flailing around wildly trying to get them off. I ended up stripping down to my underwear and running to the nurses office because I knew I was allergic at the time. I had dozens of itchy welts that lasted 2 weeks or longer. A few of the bites turned into scars that lasted years. I'm not nearly as allergic to them anymore, but I still hate fire ants.

As a kid I used to have fun picking up red ants and putting them in a bowl until one bit my finger. OUCH.

That awesome movie is "Them!" It's a Cold War Era film and it's actually pretty good. It's supposed to be getting a re-make soon, or so I've heard, but I question whether fake-looking CGI effects will be able to improve on the practical effects of the original.

There are some people who have poured molten metal inside the ant mound and allowed to cool. Then the cast is removed to show what the inside of an ant colony looks like. It’s fascinating.

Paris needed room to bury the dead, so they emptied cemetaries into the catacombs, sort of. Napoleon saw the catacombs in Italy and got jealous. He decreed that Paris would have theirs, too. Some men spent their entire working lives down there. In their free time, some carved beautiful sculptures into the dirt. There's also a church area. In the '60s, someone would smuggle a piano and instruments down, and hold parties. It's an interesting, unexpected place to visit in Paris, if you get the chance.

If ants were rat sized and their numbers stayed the same or even grew, they wouldn't be just an annoyance to us, but they might be a threat to us.

In sufficient numbers, yes, they can be more dangerous than almost any other. And...Them! Nice. Classic scifi/horror. Glad they put it in the video

Hi Kabir! Once I was cleaning out my flowerbed, and I had gathered an armload of dead weeds. As I was bringing it back to the compost pile, my forearms exploded in pain. I had unknowingly picked up a large colony of fire ants. The strange thing is, they didn't start biting right away, instead, they somehow managed to all bite simultaneously on both arms! Maybe they're telepathic or something. Anyway, I washed my arms, took a few Benadryl. My forearms looked like Popeye's. I really hate fire ants!

The dichotomy of the Ant, is pretty fascinating. They have evolved to a level that still baffles the human mind. If, you saw an ant as big as a car, you would pass out! Easy fodder. Thanks Kabir!

Yuk! I hate insects of all kinds. But as long as they stay on their side of the line OUTSIDE , and not in my home , i have no problem with them. However in my home all bets are off! After seeing this i wont feel bad about kiling an ant colony anymore. Hate wasps too so tough cookies! The prey needs a huge can of Raid!
