I spotted how upset he got when the issue of a trans woman using the male facilities. He immediately jumped to they would be attacked or r*ped. He assumes all men have the propensity towards violence unless they are a trans woman in a woman’s facilities then it is okay in which case we must assume they know how to behave. Unfortunately, I think Peter just has no understanding of the innate sensibilities of women. No man - gay, straight, or trans - can understand the bone-deep, instinctive reaction a female has to a male in certain situations. It's so universal, so inherent regardless of culture, upbringing, or experience, that even female mammals of other species display the same caution. Trans-identified males almost never "pass", despite what they may think - women know, even if they don't say anything. Peter doesn't seem to think the comfort, dignity, and safety of women is as important as the comfort, dignity, and safety of trans-identified males, nor does he seem aware of the ever-increasing list of documented invasions, assaults, and perverted behaviour that have resulted from men taking full advantage of self-identification ideology.

My library has changed the bathrooms to be open to all so if I need the washroom there I use the disable stall which is fully enclosed and has a door that locks. I am a woman in my sixties and I don’t feel comfortable with this, how do young teenager girls feel about this I can only imagine (I would have been mortified) why can’t there be three washrooms… women,men and anyone ??

@@pixie3458yes! I think this is especially true for men, which is why gender identity disorder was always more common in men than in women. Well, until about 15 years ago anyway. My hypothesis is that all humans naturally lean more stereotypically feminine(empathetic, generous, kind, connected, creative), and that under patriarchy, men are forced to deny these aspects of themselves much more than women are. In fact, I believe that most of the traits we associate with masculinity are actually byproducts of the trauma of existing under patriarchy and in civilization as the animals we are. They very kind, compassionate, gentle animals we are. And so the reason men tend to be more masculine is not because males are just inherently masculine, but because patriarchy and civilization are more traumatic for them. Of course, it’s no picnic for women to live under patriarchy and in civilization, but I do think it’s harder for males, largely because females are naturally more resilient.

Andrew, you missed some follow up questions. - if it takes years to get gender appt, then how are kids given puberty blockers at age 10-12? - peter said he has many identities - gay identity, working class identity, mountaineering identity. All those have definitions. Gay identity - attracted to same sex, working class identity - growing up with middle class income, mountaineering identity - likes to climb higher elevations. What is the definition of identifying as a woman. He can’t keep saying you can only ask a transwomen, a definition should exist separate from a transwomen’s feelings. - should governments allow people to change sex on legal documents, that are supposed to state facts, why can’t we change other facts on legal documents? - transwomen using women’s bathrooms isn’t the big problem, it’s the law that sets the precedent that is the problem. Legally allowing transwomen to use women’s spaces allows any man to access women’s spaces by saying “I am a women”, it opens up women’s spaces to any man. And women can’t legally complain that they are in there. It is the female who is admonished for being a bigot. - being shaped by genetics and brain structure shouldn’t affirm a mental disease. anorexia is a true feeling that is also shaped by genetics and brain structure, but we don’t affirm that.

Kudos to Andrew for enduring this man for hour and a half and for debating with him calmly. However, I agree that some opportunities were missed and there was a lot of going around in circles.
Besides, the "bathroom" thing hides much more dangerous situations. What about hospital rooms or jail cells for example? What about (as it has happened) intimate care for disabled women? Are they allowed to refuse getting those services from a biological man who identifies as a woman? What about rape centers or police officers in charge of searching women's bodies? Specially in those countries like Spain where self ID is now law, this leaves a huge lot of loopholes for sexual predators.
Well done Andrew for debating this in an open, polite and reasoned manner, we need more of this. When Tatchell said that a trans man feels like a man, that means nothing to me. I am male, I don’t feel male, I feel like me. The main problem is that this has become a fashion with trans celebrated, and put on a pedestal. People tell us to accept the words of children when they say they are trans, and we must not argue. And yet children are often confused, it is normal when growing up. The Tavistock clinic was shutdown because staff were fast tracking children without adequate checks. Quoting research from past decades is dangerous because trans was not celebrated back then.
Reminds me of my “I’m an alien” phase. Until I grew up and realized that there was no reason for me to assume my feelings weren’t inherently human and I wasn’t living a unique experience.
It's so two-faced when he invokes the "not representative" line about detransitioners, given that trans people are "not representative" of the gender they are attempting to emulate. Canada has census stats on this: trans/nonbinary stats were 1 in 300 people... that's 0.33% of the population. By Tatchell's own reasoning, that is definitely a non-representative figure when it comes to defining what gender actually is. Put another way, more than 99% of the population are what one would expect: their biological sex matches their gender, which makes that OVERWHELMINGLY representative of human sex and gender. Classic disregard of stats that don't favor his worldview. In doing so when said stats are within a hair's breadth of 100%, he's engaging in wildly anti-scientific disinformation.

Besides, there's no credible statistics for detransitioners, since those made by gender clinics are very flawed. As detransitioners themselves tell, if they try to contact the medical teams in charge of their transition, they're often ignored, and most of them just don't contact anyone, because there's huge pressure in that kind of setting to hide those critical voices. So, nobody knows exactly how many people are detransitioning. Also, in those who took puberty blockers and in girls who got lots of testosterone early in life, the physical changes might have been so extreme that even if they don't feel happy with what they're now, detransitioning will be a very hard and impossible road too.
"There shouldn't be blanket bans, there should be individual assessments" is a Trojan Horse that would utterly destroy women's sports. A "blanket ban" is the literal definition of "women's sports." There is no way to talk about "gender identity" without talking about the precise stereotypes women had overcome by the 90s i.e. long hair, dresses, makeup, high heels, etc. as soon as someone tries to step out of that, such as a man saying "I identify as someone who can get pregnant and have a period" the ridiculous charade falls apart. Peter Tachell has done so much for gay rights, which makes him the most dangerous person to women. He has garnered so much respect, which has given him the power to trample over womens rights in favour of men. He contradicted himself in this conversation compared to other debates I've seen him in.

My son is 5’8”! Not an overly tall man. Yet, he does Spartan challenges, runs marathons, and plays rugby union against Victoria police in Australia. He’s in the forces. He is INCREDIBLY strong, but not a huge man. My other son is huge, and looks like he could punch through walls….yet, he doesn’t have the stamina to run the marathons my smaller son does. Both are in the forces, both are biological brothers, both very different, but both are EXPONENTIALLY stronger than even a very strong woman. I’m a strong woman, and they throw me around like a rag doll lol.

In the past, the bouncer could demand the man leave the women's bathroom before he offends when someone notices a man (or a man in a dress) follows a woman to the bathroom. Now women and children must wait until he offends. And it will be her word against his. When I was younger, the man was culpable for actually being in the women's bathroom. That could be more easily proved. Now, the bouncer or bar could be sued when asking a man to get out of women's bathroom (depending on the state). In the past there were that kind of guy who liked to follow a woman just to scare her. Now he is welcomed into the bathroom, and they know the woman cannot do anything about it depending where one lives. And there are many assaults by these men. But they are called "women" in the news stories because the journalists have been captured.

Then there's the misconceptions about sexual assault. The common "pro trans" argument was that if a man really wanted to follow a woman into the bathroom and do her harm, he would just do it. He doesn't have to present as a woman to do that. And that's kind of true. But they forget that there are a lot of forms of sexual assault that DO require significant time to pull off. Voyeurism is the one I use as an example. And voyeurism takes a lot of different forms. I literally just learned this 12 hours ago. Of course, it's easy to recognize peeking into a stall. But it can also come in the form of intimidation. "Here I am, standing next to you, staring, and you can't do anything about it." (Almost like a more perverted version of "I'm not touching you" kid game). There's a fetish that depends on making the other person feel genuinely uncomfortable. There's brushing up against women which causes a sexual arousal, which is significantly easier to do in a crowded women's bathroom.
Over here in Spain, a few months ago, a woman was with her small daughter in the women's shower room of a gym that had open communal showers. Next to them, a "trans woman", showering naked and in a clear state of arousal. Horrified, the woman got dressed and went to place a claim at the reception office. Only to find out that according to current law, she could herself be sued for discrimination. Apparently, objecting to an er3ction next to you in a woman's shower room in Spain is now illegal, if the organ is attached to a TW, which in Spain, after the new law, is anyone who self IDs as such...

Haha, my daughter had her 1st initial appointment within 5 months & within that same year, she has had her 1st assessment & is looking forward to getting her top surgery 4 months after that. If it weren't for the fact that they measured her height wrong she would have the WHOLE procedure within 9 months in total! She was asked what part of the transition she wanted 1st & she chose top surgery! Shame on the UK government!
Same prob in the USA.. WITHIN weeks and certainly months, people are getting top surgery, breast remova, and hormones are given even sooner.. says many of them.
