Loved Violet Loraine and especially the Cinema scene with the huge sounding organ rising and the jaunty cheery tuneful big studio orchestra as "Piccadilly Playground" starts.

I always remember where music, movie came from, why should we forget? Progress is ok sometimes, but not always, cylinder music machines are still owned&played on you tube, real early music, footage is there to be seen,Excellent work !!

You may be interested to know that the Speedway scene in this film was in fact filmed at Lea Bridge Stadium which formally stood behind the Greyhound pub (that still stands) just off the Lea Bridge Road, the stadium was approximately three mills away from Hackney Stadium which itself formerly stood across to the eastern side of the Hackney Marshes, good posting of a rare and largely unknown film.

Well the Gaumont British studios have gone, the Gaumont Palace at Hammersmith is now a pop venue and Hackney stadium has disappeared under redevelopment, thank goodness for films.

Today I visited the site of Lea Bridge Stadium where the Speedway scene was filmed, and although the actual stadium has been gone for almost 50 years remarkably the remains of one of the grandstands still exists, Walthamstow Heritage have attached a blue plaque to a wall that was the former entrance to the Stadium to commemorate the site.

Thanks for that. I looked up what you said and found a photo of the "skeletal grandstand" in some kind of motor dealer`s yard. Very interesting to know these things.

Same, I wish Alistair Sim was with him in this. Those two together are brilliant. I wish there had been more Inspector Hornleigh movies.

Ah, fish and chips in newspaper. Not considered healthy, perhaps early/mid 70's that had to go. Maybe not so much the ink as to where the paper had been.
