As a schoolboy I traveled from Upminster to Thorpe Bay on the 8.08 am every weekday, then the 5.03 pm return every evening ,our side of the platform was empty , and we often had a whole coach to ourselves. The 1st gen EMUs were really reliable I only ever remember one failed train between 1966-1973 when me and 4 other School chums traveled. Happy days 👍😊
Brilliant, made when the BBC was a trusted and probably the finest broadcaster in the world. It all went wrong when BR closed the Brighton Belle. They should have expanded the idea all over the UK. As Sir Larry Olivier said, the breakfast kippers were fantastic!
Much nicer and more comfortable carriages then those in use today. Better crowd riding as well. Wish they kept these in production. No more human station announcements nor station agents either. No service nor comfort in the 21st century and definitely nothing of luxury.
@Chuckles. Thanks fir your reply. Ah that's a shame, inwouldnhave liked to see the rest of it. However, I'll look forward to seeing the others when you are able to upload them
I don’t think it is unique to Britain, people commutes to New York City, Philadelphia Baltimore and Washington similarly and most people commute someplace. They don’t wear bowler hats and carry umbrellas though.
